What I've always noticed on this site is the following:

-Boxing Historians are held in high regard.

-If said historians actually go against popular opinion then their credibility is questioned if not downright insulted. All of a sudden they should be held with a grain of salt, when before that they were used as fuel in arguments about popular opinions.

It's a snobbish club in the world of boxing history. It's like they don't want boxing history to do what it does best: make history. The book is closed for them. No more room for future greats. Time stands still.

well we can rank them as great in their own era, thats obvious. but they are great for different reasons. Mayweather for example was basically a masterful businessman (or the people around him). thats great on its own, but in this section we measure greatness on what happens in the ring. the contemporary guys aren't not fighting in the same arena so its hard to rate famous fighters that perform at such a low level compared to what boxing veterans are used to.

Fury is certainly great in his era, and thats all that counts. he's standing above whats around him and the factors in his life time. This is the only way to judge someone.

In this sense, Fury might be more famous than Lewis - he's got a hell of a TV personality, downright hilarious and that champions confidence (which all greats have had, by the way - we just haven't seen it in forever).
