QUESTION: If GGG/Jacobs fight happens, will that fight declare the new Lineal champ at middleweight?
Absolutely not..
1. Canelo has defended his lineal title this year.
2. I like the unification fight for GGG but let's not jump the gun with Danny. Jacobs has fought two ranked MW opponents in the last 6 years, one of whom (Pirog) starched him, the other one (Quillin) he bumrushed and beat in the first.
I find it hard to see how Ring have Danny as the number 2 ranked MW if I'm honest
That's quite interesting.
Canelo beats #8 Ring ranked Liam Smith and now gets ranked #1 at 154, ahead of Lara, Andrade and the Charlos.
Canelo also still holds the lineal MW title, even though he never fought at 160, never beat a legit MW and his last 2 defenses were against Amir Khan, a Welterweight and Liam Smith a Junior MW.
The Ring Policy states
Here are the situations in which a champion can lose his belt:
- The Champion moves to another weight class.
Pretty clear that Canelo will be promoted as Lineal Middleweight Champion who is also #1 at 154. Gives Canelo alot of leverage in future fights.
Do you think these Ring Ratings are legitimate and fair? Does Canelo still deserve to hold the Ring MW Belt? Does Canelo deserve to be ranked #1 at 154?
Look, I'm 100% a GGG fan, but what's the problem with what the Ring are doing?
- Canelo was the consensus no.1 JMW before fighting Cotto, he beat a legitimate beltholder, in Liam Smith. It's only fair he retains his No.1 position.
- For as much as we complain about the Cotto incident, he held the Rings lineal title. He defended it against Amir Khan less than 6 months ago. We know he's probably fighting at 160 next, so why would you strip him of the title?
Rings ratings have bothered me in the past but in this situation, I see no problem with it! Especially with the lineal title, I believe that you need to beat the man to win that title!
Easily has to be Carl Frampton so far.
Unified titles at 122
Jumped up a division and won a title at 126
May unify titles against Selby before the year is out
Only the second Irish fighter to be a two weight world champion, first from Northern Ireland.
Floyd can buy a fleet of Conors.
He doesn't have to "attach his name "...he's just attending the event.
Lol, So he has more money than Conor? That means he's more relevant?
Guess what, Amancio Ortega is worth a hell of a lot more money than Floyd but does anybody here know who he is really?
Guess what, if you ask people who don't religiously follow either MMA or Boxing, I guarantee you more people know McGregor than Floyd
One of tree greatest sports trolls still.conor will soon copy him like he's done everything else
So please tell us how Conor copies Floyd?? They both buy expensive things.. That's it!
Conor is 10x more charismatic and a hell of a lot better trash talker than Floyd!
If anything, Conor copies the Ric Flair, Vince McMahon style than Floyd.
You do realize that even for his 30-day weigh-ins, he's usually around 148 to 150 lbs. And he has never made 154 lbs for the 154 lbs fights for the weigh-ins.
So are you saying that Floyd's weight doesn't change between weigh in and fight night! Look at The Berto Weigh in and look at Floyd on fight night!
He's clearly physically bigger than on weigh ins! He was god damn bigger than Berto fight night, so this myth of being a small welterweights got to stop!
Watch the Mayweather vs Judah fight! Both guys were small welterweights then, but not any longer he's obviously grown into the division
simple question how many rounds would it take broner to ko Conroy mcnelsons fruity ass
Broner probably knocks out "Conroy McNelson" in 2 rounds, but...
Conor McGregor knocks seven shades of ****e out of Broner in whatever fashion he wants!
He gets a pass from me. He beats Lemiux, and once he beats Canelo, HE HAS TO MOVE UP AND FIGHT WARD. GGG is one of my favorites, but if he decides not to fight ward upon beating Canelo, then he will lose my respect.
Wards a god damn LightHeavy Weight at this point, so it's ridiculous for people to mention this fight until he can actually prove he's still an entity at 168!
Id much rather see GGG fight the Lee vs Saunders winner before or after fighting for the WBC belt (because I can guarantee Cotto/Canelo winner doesn't take the fight)! I can't understand why people talk **** about a fighter trying unify all the belts in his own division before moving up!
I have no problem with them fighting but no way this should be a unification. It should be nothing more than an eliminator.
It's interesting that you'd say that when the guy in your pic didn't fight Acelino Freites, Joel Casameyor, Kosta Tzyu, Antonio Margarito or Paul Williams!
Did you say the same thing when all those fights never materialised, or was it "strictly business"?
I have a feeling that the winner will eventually fight him. I dont know whos really to blame there have been many conflicting reports as to who is responsible for Rigos fall lately.
It's really hard to try and put the blame on anybody else when you hear all the reports of Rigo's team turning down multi-million deals!
People will say that his team is clearly at fault but when you're in your mid 30's and have only 14 fights eventually you have to say Rigo should have took the bull by the horns and demanded fights!
As much as I don't like Scott Quigg, he stated numerous times that he wanted the Rigo fight! Barry McGuigan wanted the Rigo fight after the second Kiko fight!
Heard this from a very reliable source, very close to the Khan camp, that they are going to release sparring footage between him and Pacquiao, in order show the boxing world what really happened between the two in sparring. Things could be getting very interested fairly soon!!!!
I also heard from a reliable source that the Khan camp have the tapes from the grassy knoll that prove Lee Harvey Oswald didn't shoot JFK... They're releasing it along with the fight contracts that Arum sent. Things are gonna get real interesting, real soon!!! #TheTruthIsOutThere
Let's at least give him the title: The people's champ.
He deserved to win at least one major fight. The only clear loss was against Golovkin.
The people's champ.
http://www.livefight.com/images/pages/14465037921427559612mm1.jpg
He'll still lose a Split Decision for the people's champ belt
Canelo has fought Cotto, Lara, Trout, Mosely and Mayweather and only has one loss
Bradley has been fighting world champions and titlists back to back since his 140 days
even Khan and Danny Garcia have extensive resumes and not many losses, Garcia has had close fights but is undefeated
Broner with a few wins could have consideration as well.....4 weight titlist and only 25
Are they putting to much into the eye test, and less on the level of opposition and ability to succeed going up in weight
How about you give an example of who he should replace on the list instead of rhyming of their wins?
Also, Broner... GTFO
The stripping of Stevenson doesn't bother me much.
The magazine itself went a bit off the rails a while back. The P4P list with Guerreo, as well as a high placed Broner was a glimpse of that.
I think you're right, I feel Stevenson's stripping was justified. Rigo should be too if he doesn't fight a well ranked opponent next too!
I think the Ring is getting things right now after a period where, as you mentioned they ****ed things up like with the Broner Guerrero issues!
I think since Shaefer left the company things are getting better, I think they need to get Chuck Giampa off their books as he is the only one with who is continually ****ing up their P4P ranking (But it's all subjective anyway so **** it!)
1)stripping champions who didn't vacate or move up
2)Ronda Rousey on the cover when Holly Holm is a 3 division champion and in many eyes represented boxing in a fight pitting two near prime fighters one MMA one a world class boxer
3) the writers let their personal bias spew out in the mailbags and articles
4) targeting fighters who are not under their umbrella and trashing them in articles
5) the quality of articles isn't near as good and I had a subscription from 1995 until 2003 when I went off to college. I would by them off the newsstand after that.
6) ringtyvonline bashes fighters instead of promoting the sport we love
So basically "I don't agree with Ring Magazine so it must be trash!" GTFO
You are talking bull**** in all of your points. The only one I semi agree with is the Ronda cover, but from a marketing perspective, I understand why they put her on the cover, the girl sells... Where were you calling for Holly Holm to be on the Rings cover before they announced Ronda was on??
And I assume the "trashing fighters" is to do with Fischers views on Mayweather? Which is the basis of your dislike of the mag in the first place!
Floyd's somewhere in the top 10-15 in my book. I'd have to sit down and really think about this list. There's really been a lot of great fighters throughout history...
If Mayweathers "top 10-15 in your book" then I'd be curious to know how many fighters "Are in your book"...
How does your list look?
Most likely to me, 35-45.. But that's just estimation after a 10 minute think!
What I do know is that right now, I most certainly would not have him above Bernard Hopkins on my ATG list
I think we can all agree on that!
Typical Floyd fan garbage. Hindsight fights to excuse him for not testing himself!
The same way you guys say Floyd would have beat
- Casemayor and Freites at 130,
- Spadafora at 135,
- Cotto and Tzsyu at 140,
- Mosley, Williams and Margarito at 147,
- Martinez and Lara at 154
And now Khan now too?? Look maybe, Mayweather would have beaten all of those guys, maybe he wouldn't (it's not outside the realm of reality Floydiots, he got beaten by JLC, he's not unbeatable)
The point is mayweather would rather fight a Berto, Baldomir, Mitchell or drain a Corrales or Canelo than truly test himself!
And you guys just let him by claiming that "Oh well, he would have beaten them regardless" then **** on fans for not "appreciating his style"... It's laughable how hypocritical you guys are
When was "prime" Martinez?
I wouldn't pick any version of Martinez to beat Golovkin
Exactly, a "Prime" Martinez was never a middleweight!
I'm as big a Sergio fan as any, I watched him live in Belfast in 2004 (Brian Magee was on the bill) so no one can call me a bandwagon Martinez fan! But no version of Sergio beats Golovkin, it would look like a more violent version of the Margarito fight!
And to the guy who said Martinez would "take Golovkin out late", What in your right mind leads you to believe that?
It's obvious he's on it.. you don't get better at 34 than at 30/31. Same for the guy in your avatar..
Oh so Framptons on it too?? Haha, right mate, whys that because he's in good shape?
only a guy who has never worked real hard or engaged in a hard sport would not know you do not get better as you get older. some people are that dense
It's funny how counter-logical that quote is! Physically you don't get better, but boxing isn't always about the physical or Gary Russell Jr would have beaten Loma, or Tyson would have beaten Buster Douglas!
Cotto obviously isn't in his physical prime any more but he's always been a technical fighter, since his father died he bounced around for trainer to trainer. He's finally settled with Freddie Roach and is feeling confident.
It's not that he's a better fighter than when he was 30, it's that he's fighting smarter and is in a better headspace! And the old caveman training philosophy of training harder because your older is out the window these days, it's about training smarter
What? Sergio was just as good at 30 years old or 35 years old. He was not known and not given good chances when he was 30 years old, but he beaten everyone they put on him, like Cintron, Bunema. When he fought Margarito it was when he was a WW and was only 27 years old. After that he mover up to JMW and found his best weight there.
Still, I think he used some "help" to build muscle when he moved up to 160.
Read my post again, I said a mid 30s Sergio (34) to a late 30s Sergio (39)
And if you think Martinez used PEDs to make 160 I don't think there's much point debating you!
Discuss! Could Antonio Tarver have permanently ruined RJJ because of the juice? Maybe that's why he won and Roy was never the same. We know the PED testing definitely wasn't up to snuff in those days. Thoughts???
Pot kettle black, it's been well documented RJJs added weight and muscle to make the Heavyweight limit had been with the aid of PEDs as Victor Conte alluded to!
People pointed to that as the reason why he didn't perform well against building up that weight then immediately losing it had a detrimental affect on him
Like most I have been very impressed with GGG and his dominance of the Middleweight division. He looks unbeatable. The question I have been deliberating on is, Is he too big for the average Middleweight? Does he belong at 168 or 175? I wonder if he will have as much punch resistance in the higher weights and will his punches have as much affect on Ward, Kovalev and Degale etc. Opinions please :)
He was 165 at the 30 day weigh in and weighed 168 and 170 on fight night his last two performances!
He's one of the smallest middleweights in the game right now, so the answer to your question is no!
God damn Canelo weighs more than him on fight night and he's a weight class below him
Wasn't just compubox, the whole event was weirdly like a Pro Canelo parade! Between rounds, no matter how well Cotto done TV would show a Canelo highlight.. The HBO team done their damnedest to ram Canelos down our throats, and the less we speak about the scores the better... 119 was a joke
From what I've seen of Zurdo, far from impressive. I don't see anything he does posing a threat to Golovkin! (Assuming GGG is close to the fighter he is at MW at SMW)
Side bar.. Can we, for the love of god stop calling fighters "Young Lions" **** me it's the most pretensiously cvntish thing in boxing
