At his age, I don't think he could get down to 200 lbs...he looks to be at least 250 or 260 from the pics I've seen of him lately, maybe more. I read that in his last fight against MkBride, he trained really hard, and still came in at over 230 lbs. Tyson said Fenech worked him hard in the gym, and he was doing a lot of things he hadn't done in a long time, like running. I'd say it would be really draining for him, even if he could do it. A younger Tyson at cruiserweight though...man, he'd kill all those guys.
would have been a good fight I think, to big, strong athletic guys who punch hard, box well, and have great left jabs. Bowe was better on the inside, Lennox had a better right hand from the outside, Lennox was more composed. I think people look to closely at the amateur bout they had, I've watched it, and neither man looked anything like the pro versions of themselves, and it was a typical amateur stoppage...it's not like Bowe got blown away like some people (who prob. haven't even seen the fight) say.
I don't know who'd win, I mean damn Bowe was one tough cookie when he was on top...threw lots of combinations, fought pretty aggressively, took a punch well. Lennox fought at a more relaxed pace, relied on his accuracy, jab, and straight punches...who knows. Woulda made for a good fight though.
I'd say Wlad's proven his power more so than Peter, although Peter is a big hitter. If he sharpened up his punches a little more...straightened them out, he'd be more effective, but thats just not how he fights. Either way, the man is heavy handed, it's debatable weather or not he hits harder than Wladimir, but he's still one of the hardest punchers in the division. It's interesting Manny would say that, though. Wlad's a sharper puncher, more skilled, Peter is more of a slower clubber. Both are effective at hurting opponents.
I hope this fight actually happens, and soon, not a year &a half from now after negotiations and more VK injuries. I think it has potential to be an exciting match.
John Ruiz wouldn't be able to beat Wlad, he doesn't have the power to get his attention, the speed, or the size. it's tough to wrestle a 6'6" 240 lb. man for 12 rounds effectively, especially one who has a ramrod of a jab. I would absolutely love to see Wlad knock Ruiz the fuck out.
we'll know what kind of power Haye has when he gets in there with a legitimate heavyweight, he's been able overpower the cruiserweights, hopefully he'll be just as badass at heavyweight, but we'll have to wait &see. I think 30 pounds is a lot of weight to gain, he'd be around 228-230 lbs....will he still have good quickness? It's bound to slow him down some, and that could hurt him. I think one thing that would help make him effective at heavyweight would be his speed, most of the top heavies aren't as fast as Haye, if I were him, I would get around 220 or so, &try to retain my hand &foot speed as much as possible.
well at least now we have a younger fighter with a belt, a guy who will prob. be around for a little while. My hats off to Maskaev, just a few years ago he was getting beat left &right it seems and got KO'd badly by Sanders. He really turned it around, he's got nothing to be ashamed of. Hopefully we'll start to see some unification matches now after Wlad-Ibragimov, and work at getting one top dog, that would be nice. With Vitali coming back, and Haye moving up, I think we may be in for some good old fashion excitement in the division.
Golota got a 12 round UD over Mike Mollo, a decent, smallish sized heavyweight, who tried to smoke Golota early ala Lamon Brewster, but was unable to. I wouldn't mind seeing Golota fight for a strap one more time before it's over, he's almost never in a boring/bad fight.
I'm not really worried about Golota fouling in fights anymore, I'm pretty sure the last time that happened was in 1996, in his second bout with Riddick Bowe....12 years with a clean slate, and many on air apologies. Besides, it's like Golota said himself "I'm not a dirty fighter, I take at least 2 showers a day!"
Cotto is def. a really strong fighter....very fast hands, hard puncher, works the body well, throws good combinations, fights at a good pace, whats not to like? This guys awesome!
Good post. Pryor was the man. In 2006 I met him at the interntational boxing hall of fame, it was really cool...the fans were showing him lots of love, evertime he came around people started yelling "Hawk time!", and he would start yelling back with a big smile on his face, great guy.
Well I love Gatti &I'd hate to see the man hurt anymore....but it's his choice, he's been a fighter all his life, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise to anyone, it gets done over &over again, we should just except it. Old fighters come back, people pay to see, as people will do for "Thunder" Gatti.
I have read a few articles about this. I have mixed feelings about it. I don't want to see Tyson on his back again, he hasn't fought...Holyfield has &has been in great shape, he knows Tyson in &out. It's funny, this fight would outsell any other heavyweight fight right now I bet, shows how starved the division is of star power.
I like Cotto a lot, but another fighter I've been watching for a year or two and really like it Darnell Wilson, he's one of my favorite fighters to watch.
I'd go with a boxing glove style bag glove, not a thin little bag glove...train with something similar to what you will fight with, preferably leather, with good knuckle &wrist protection. Title makes some nice, affordable ones.
