Lin is not the norm and to a certain extent, he has everthing going against him, and just like lots of other sports, people try to gravitate to individuals that go against the grain and are the underdog. I really dont give a sh*t if Lin was black, white whatever this kid has got me watching basketball again since the 90's..
yeah that's probably true maybe I don't know what to look for and I don't notice the little things I remember watching a fight last year and some guy was just punching on a guy laying on the ground looking half unconscious not protecting himself blood all over the canvas that doesn't seem like a sport to me
I see this point and alot of people do. I am a big foxing fan and have been for many years, But MMA has evolved and is attracting alot of fans boxing wouldn't. regardless, for me it fills my saturday nights when there is no boxing or a crappy expensive card is put on. Most of the fights that people find entertaining anyways are the ones where they standup and fight..
Anderson Silva,B.J Penn and George St.Peirre and John Jones have mad skils..Rampage has good stand up as well
In terms of entertainment UFC(MMA) has it covered. In terms of big fights and hype, definitely boxing. I usually watch boxing on Friday nights and either boxing or UFC on saturdays (usually record the one I cant watch live). UFC definitely stacks their cards though. I do hate it when they crawl all over each other for too long..
I like this fight..too bad it wasn't made before Kirkland went to jail, ..but then again who knew.I have Angulo over Kirkland on this one, dont think Kirklands chin will hold up. Angulo is slow and can get caught, but Kirkland will stand right in front of him and exchange and those are the kind of fighters Angulo takes out.
Definitely! that is becoming annoying, if you want to be friends, be friends after the fight. That should eliminate issues like this in the future. Plus the ref needs to have alot more control than cortez had.
It used to be that the ref was the only one that would command fighters to touch them up when the fight got too dirty and starting taking points away..
Thank you for posting those pics. If the top one with Cortez was indeed immediately after the point deduction, then it clearly shows the ref signaling to resume action. The photo where the fighters disengage after their hug shows Floyd clearly in a fighting stance, while Victor is stupidly standing at attention. The further I examine the last moments of this fight, the sillier the events become. I understand why some people (especially the Floyd haters) have a bad taste in their mouths; since Mayweather is the one who came out on top, he's the one who's catching the blame. But I stand by my words: I blame Victor.
Murphy's Law at its best..
Very Vaild points CubanGuy, but honestly this is the first time I have seen this happen at a fight of this magnitude. Maybe that's why its so blatant and alot of people that aren't even boxing fans are jumping in on it. I am boxing fan first and foremost and tend to always root for the underdog, just to keep it interesting. But I have seen so many fights where stuff like this happens, not to the point of getting knocked out, but where fighters want to tap gloves, hug etc..and eventually start fighting again(boxing and the MMA). It was a legal but cheap shot in my eyes..not because I dislike floyd or like Ortiz, I dont think it validates Mayweather's ability at this point, I think he could've still taken Ortiz out fair and square over the span of several more rounds.
I strongly disagree my friend I think the fight was competitive and Ortiz was hurting Floyd with the right hand to the body. Floyd was winning and probably would have stopped Ortiz on cuts or by TKO and accumulation of punishment but Ortiz was giving him something to chew on. terrible for the fans it was going to get better after that.....LEFTY
Totally agree..and I was rooting for Ortiz. Ortiz should not have intentionally headbutted Mayweather, and definitely not try to hug!..come on now..
Mayweather should have let him just have that left to prove a point and not followed up with the right..To me Ortiz was seriously hurt especially after seeing his head bounce off the mat.
And to top it all off, I was not impressed by the fight card at all..
All I know is that after this fight:
1. No more hugging, tapping etc during the fight allowed!! at all
2. The ref needs to take full control of the fight and fighters so that this situation doesnt happen again.
After several days, I dont know if am pissed off at Mayweather to be honest, I think I am more pissed off at the way it became a f8ckin circus.
I am a big boxing fan, and boxing did get alot of attention, mostly negative it seems.
I would have rather enjoyed Mayweather take apart Ortiz technically as he was starting to as opposed to how it ended.
But IMHO I think Mayweather might have enough to beat Pac-man if they fought tomorrow..and I am not even a mayweather fan..
It sucks, this fight was either gonna solidify Brand Rios as a star fighter or elevate Gamboa's prospects as an elite fighter. Hopefully, Top Rank wont keep Gamboa sidelined due to litigation, but that would be the worst case scenario. If Mayweather is gonna sign him, pretty sure he has the $$ and pull(Golden Boy) to get him off from under Top Rank. Oh well hopefully more exciting fights will come our way this year.
Pretty sure it had to do with Abril's style.. I knew rios would have problems but I think Abril beat him and made him look bad..Rios exposed? doubt it, he is a flawed fighter that fights coming forward with limited footwork and defense, but he's been fighting that way a long time..it did seem Rios was ready for an upset and he needs to stop fighting a 135 if he cant make it anymore!
I was actually rooting for Alvarado on this one, to me it seemed that he was going to be too big and strong for Rios. Don't think I ever wrote off Rios after the Abril fight. I already knew he was having a hard time making the weight and Abril's style was going to make it hard for Rios. Regardless, Rios brought it and took down Alavarado. I thought it was a legit stoppage. Bigger and better things for Rios. Alavardo still has the potential to be a champ, he just lost against a better fighter.
Yeah, I think his aggressive and KO style is why he is so hyped up. It doesn't hurt to have all those amateur level accomplishments also. So the guy is bringing alot to the table in terms of skill, experience, and a crowd pleasing style. He hasn't really fought anyone yet and he looked good against Proska, but then again he was supposed to. better fights should come hopefully and then we will see what's what.
I thought Angulo would KO Kirkland on this one..but man angulo looked like sh*t and Kirkland made him look that way..Big props to kirkland and His trainer Wolfe, great chemistry right there.
I think the mental game is already on margarito's side, just basing it off of Cotto's demeanor..I am not a fan of maragrito, but I sincerely think cotto will not be able to deal with the pressure.
I though Margarito was going to win again on this fight..But props to Cotto, he used the ring very well, stayed off the ropes and clinched when he got hit close. other than that it was a very similar fight style wise, his new trainer's game plan worked out very well. Margarito's eye failed him, dont think he will physically be able to go 12 rounds. He should retire since he also seems like he is getting hit way too much now and that eye is not going to help. Cotto had better conditioning this time around.
Made several observations on that night..
After Angulo knocked Kirkland down, he should'nt have pressed the issue since Kirkland did not look that hurt..he basically punched himself out bad in the process, probably due to thinking it was going to be an easy night and maybe didn't train as hard, he never recovered. Looking back I dont think Angulo came in prepared like he should have..Kirkland came in top condition and dont think Angulo would've had a chance in the long run.
Since Angulo is not as technically skilled, Kirkland looked very good in picking his shots and going to the body and head.
Kirkland's training was on point, and I think thats what gave him the edge in this fight.
Kirkland's chin is still questionable, but he will make for some very exciting fights..
Angulo missed his chance, it was weird pre-fight just seeing angulo sitting down relaxing while Kirkland was moving around and being active..that basically showed, at least to me who wanted it more..
I think cotto has always had a stamina issue and it will be an issue again in this fight. Margarito's strength has always been his conditioning and ability to take a punch. In the first fight Cotto pretty much outclassed him. But Margarito kept on coming and I think Cotto just got tired of the the body shots, all the movement and the work trying to keep margarito at bay. The extra weight is definitely not going to help Cotto. I have this one going the same way as the first fight.(I am not a Margarito fan either)
Gotta give him props..Khan is marketing himself pretty well..He is always talking smack and getting attention, and making himself out to be more of a legitimate fighter than he really is.
he takes the punches pretty well, and comes back with his own..i agree, i saw him briefly hurt when he fought acosta, but rios has looked drained lately..regardless, it is good to see an exciting fighter making some good fights.
The reason I support GBP is that I haven't seen their fighters being ripped off. They seem to be more transparent.
Also, they are bringing better cards and more creative events.
The Starpower split-site is a great value for fans. Especially when you consider than fans at Staples are also getting a music concert thrown in.
Definitely agree, Boxing is starting to lose some of the publics attention. We all want to see good fights, especially within a stacked card. I like the fact that golden boy promotions is starting to do that, market and at least attempt to start putting good cards together, I dont like paying $$ for just the main event. Top Rank in my opinion is just going about business as usual. Good point being the whole Juanma and Gamboa potential fight that never came about cuz he wanted to get the most money out of it..instead of criticizing the UFC, they should focus on making better fights and giving people their moneys worth! I am a Boxing fan first and foremost, but in all honestly if there is a UFC fight that has a better card, i will watch that instead
Bob Arum pays his fighters 10x more than what Dana White pays his.
If you want to see fighters get ripped off financially, look at MMA.
They give their top dogs $250,000 - 500,000 a fight. Come on man.
Bob Arum's fighters wipe their butt with that.
I think thats part of the problem, have you looked at how much undercard fighters make? it aint much either. Are there any kind of benefits(health insurance etc..??)unless you are a commodity in the sport of boxing then you are covered. The basic point is this, UFC does a whole lot more for their sport than boxing is doing today. All of thes boxing promoters are in it for the money, that is obvious, but come on, put on a good card for the $50 they charge for PPV events. I dont like spending my hard earned money subscribing to HBO to see alexander-bradley ..oh yeah and definitely not spending the $$ to see mosely run around the ring against pacquiao. You can pick apart both sports with ease. I am a huge boxing fan, but this petty bullsh*t with GoldenBoy and Top rank for a while was killing good fights..Gotta give credit where credit is due UFC is doing a good job of marketing their product..go to your local bar and see for yourself..
I like ortiz in this fight honestly, he has more to gain than to lose. Alot of people have already written him off, so if he loses, people wont be surprised. But, if he looks good or possibly wins it would be a pretty huge upset in my book. Overall I just want to see a good fight..
I can see some sort of agreement between GBP and Bob Arum..I am glad that Golden Boy took the high road on this fight to be honest. I want to see JMM vs.Pacman 3 just to settle it once and for all. I think its what was best for JMM at this point in his career and it would've sucked if GBP made him fight some other fighter that JMM marquez wasn't interested in, just to keep his contract. Pacquiao is definitely the big fish right now, but I dont see him hanging around for too long either especially if the Mayweather fight never happens. I agree hopefully this will mean there will be some better fights between Top Rank fighters vs GBP..at the end of the day I think GBP is doing more for the sport than Bob Arum is...
