Or unlucky if you want to put it another way. Worst part of Garcia winning is that it'll give GB fodder to justify mismatches (on paper at least). You just know they'll bring up Khan-Garcia in the Canelo-Lopez press conference.
Some of it is luck, but styles make fights and Golden Boy has had some great one's recently.
Personally, I give them a pass for Canelo-Lopez because the fact is that they attempted to put him in there with some challenging opponents but different things happened. At some point you have to have a fight in place so they decided just to keep Canelo active before moving him onto to bigger challanges.
A pass for Lopez-Canelo, Do you know that on fight night Canelo might have 20 pounds over Lopez and that could lead to tragedy in the ring? They are plenty of JMW around to make the fight interesting, he doesn't have faith in Canelo and we know that, its clear, but bringing a JWW to fight a big JMW it is criminal.
PS. Probably they not let Canelo weight the next day.
I think a lot of GBP matches are very intriguing.
Everybody forgot how they thought the only way Alexander would beat Maidana was by robbery. Instead, Alexander dominated Maidana pretty clearly. Look at Matthysse vs Soto, everybody thought Soto would outbox Matthysse, didn't happen. Ortiz vs Lopez is the FOTY IMO, now Garcia vs Khan happened. These are such great fights to watch. I can't complain.
GBP gets crap for making too good a fight, and putting their young guys in dangerous fights. But look what it results in.
I know you said IYO Ortiz Lopez is FOTY but no way does it trump JuanMa Salido II. That fight is still hands down FOTY along with two classic rds w the potential of also being ROTY.
Golden Boy matches up their guys tough. And when you do that sometimes they are going to get beat.
Top Rank on the other hand tries to cherry pick for their stars and match them up carefully. Arum just admitted that in the case of Chavez Jr.
Besides babying Canelo they ain't afraid to put their guys in together, Kirkland vs. Angulo wasn't happening and once they were both signed it was booked.
Unlucky...
They were great fights.. That is usually what they would want to see, except when their fighter is on the losing end.
They did not want Ortiz and Khan (especially) to lose. Because: 1) Josesito Lopez is signed to Dan Goossen and 2) Khan was on the verge of a Mayweather fight and probably would've been up next.
Instead of Canelo-Ortiz they have Canelo-Lopez and instead of Mayweather-Khan (would've been a huge fight regardless of the perceived competitiveness) it's Mayweather-TBA.

I liked the Lopez-Ortiz fight, I was never against that. I especially liked Garcia-Khan, other than the way they've been matching Canelo's opponents, I really like the match making so no complaints here. I'm sure we'll get Mares-Moreno at some point.
Everybody talking negatively about Canelo-Lopez, even me. But watch the fight be some crazy fire-fight and every one will regret talking bad about it :lol1:

You could say they are horrible at matchmaking but is a 50-50 thing. Ortiz and Khan have let them down in all the fights that could have taken them to the next level.

Still doesn't excuse the fact that both are JWW's and Lopez is a JWW fighting a JMW.
