I'd day both Jackson and Mcllelan were equal in terms of pure power(even though Mcllelan laid Jackson out bad!) But Tommy had all the skills to go with that right cross, not to mention he was relentless to the body to set up the right. I'd go with Hearns, his chin wasn't the best, but you had to catch him before he knocked you out.
Both Judah and Margarito are overrated. Judah has only beat spinks..Margarito beat a young untested prospect in Cintron..and 6 heads Lewis who's no big deal.
In terms of power Judah's punch has more snap because of the speed, but Margarito's are definitely heavier.
not a bashing thread, just want to know opinions..
rumors are leaning towards Cory Spinks being Floyd's next opponent, do you consider him a better choice than Margarito?
out of the two fighters, vote the quick poll above..
Mayweather will fight Baldomir after he beats Gatti, PBF will take Baldomir's title, and then he'll fight Spinks or someone else who isn't Mosley or Margarito or Cotto or anyone with a fighting chance.
I am a fan of both Boxing and MMA, hell i'm a fan of just about all combat sports.
If pushed, i would say i am bigger Boxing fan than anything else, Boxing is what i train in.
However you can't argue with the fact that MMA is growing in leaps and bounds whilst boxing is standing still even regressing in popularity.
UFC PPVs figures are now at the stage where they are higher than almost all Boxing PPV figures. The only boxer who can draw higher PPV buys than MMA consistently is Oscar De La Hoya. But let's face it, how many more Oscar fights will there be ?
Here's what i think needs to happen.
Boxing PPVs need to be revolved more around than just one fight. Sure have a main event, but there needs to be a complete card, 5+ fights of quality ! Not one good fight and the rest are fillers. Each card should have two Championship bouts at least.
Boxing needs to offer more to be able to compete with MMA. If it doesn't, in 3-4 years it's really going to be struggling
I hate to admit it cuz i love boxing, but boxing is a dying sport..We lose potential fighters to MMA, people don't have to patience to appreciate boxing anymore. We do have some quality guys coming up in the sport but i feel like once this era of great fighters are gone then the sport of boxing will disappear as well. There's not going to be enough superstars to fight each other, which is what boxing is all about in terms of marketability. also PPV is killing the sport. no one wants to pay 50 bucks for only one good fight. People like MMA cuz the fights are short and sweet also you get more quality fights for your PPV money. I used to be a big fan of MMA (ufc1-10) but lost interest in it. It's just not the same as boxing..I think it's the history of the sport that makes boxing so special.
It's sad to see a once great fighter coming up with different excuses to why his career has gone downhill. Downhill slides in boxing are the worst out of all the sports. It's hard for fighters to come to grips with reality, they get stuck in denial a lot of times. I just hope he doesn't get embarrased, his next fight is basically a lose lose for Roy.
Top 5 Fights Which You Think Should Happen. Here are my top 5.
1. Vic Darchinyan vs Jorge Arce
2. Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Ricky Hatton
3. Arthur Abraham vs Jermaine Taylor
4. Joe Calzaghe vs Bernard Hopkins
5. Juan Diaz vs Manny Pacquiao
Pacman vs Juarez
Winky vs Taylor II
Mayweather vs Mosley
Castillo vs Cotto
Arce vs R. Marquez
Pac would be foolish to go up to lightweight...he's gone up too far as it is...you saw what happened to morales vs raheem. same would've happened to MAB if he fought jesus chavez at that weight.
Baldomir is legitimate because he beat Judah who beat Spinks who beat Mayorga who beat Forrest who beat Mosley who beat De La Hoya who beat Whitaker who beat McGirt who beat Brown who beat Blocker who beat Starling, who had beaten Honeyghan who had beaten Curry who had unifed vs McCrory.
....any questions?
You're not being serious are you? Judah legitimate? Spinks? Mayorga? what is this six degrees of separation? Thanks for the laugh.
I'm pretty excited for this one..i see forrest coming out on top in a less than exciting fight..i see both guys being very cautious, i don't see them going all out. i see a lot of jabbing and circling but i think forrest will be better rested and his size will bother quartey who's best days are well behind him. 116-112 Forrest UD
i had a feeling this would happen..they'll fight, mayweather will beat him up, get a belt and then claim to be the best because of the belt, therefore giving him more time to duck better fights in hopes that all his potential opponents can eliminate each other to the point mayweather can pick and choose who he fights. He'll fight mandatories and paper champs for a while. I think Mosley is the only guy who can corner mayweather into a fight...nobody else has any pull. Mosley has ODH$$$$$.
uhhh...the linear belt makes a fighter a champion.
If not belts, then what??
like i said belts don't make you a champion, belts don't make you the best. In the past, yes it did..but now it doesn't. Barrera, Morales and Pacquiao don't have belts, but no one will deny that they're the best at 130..with all the politics about who can and who can't get a title shot, the value of belts are diminished.
Pac's resume is so ovverrated. Dude recently got KO in 99, had a draw with Sanchez when the fight was stopped on a cuts but he still had a draw despite Sanchez having 2 points deducted. He beat MAB but he caught him off guard and MAB had all that brain shit on his mind.
Then he had a damn draw with Marquez despite dropping him 3 times in the 1st round. When Witter beat N'Dou alot of people still gave more credit to N'Dou because Witter dropped him a bunch of times but the fight was still close. This is even worse. He dropped Marquez 3 times but it was still a draw which means that Marquez outclassed him in way more rounds.
Pac then beat 3K who had just had a draw in his previous fight and 2 fights before he was shut out for a easy decision win where no one gave him a round. Then he fought Morales and easily got beat. Since then Morales looked like shit and even was shutout against a sorry ass Raheem. The next fight Pac Knocks him out and everyone gives him props for that but anyone could see that Morales was done.
Then he beats Larios who is also done and just got killed in his previous fight by a 3 round KO. Since then he has been trying so hard to get MAB & Morales back in the ring. That is the biggest joke in the world. Why would you keep calling out guys you already killed? Does Floyd go around calling out Gatti & Chico? There not even on Floyd's mind and if he tried to fight Gatti again then everyone would be ripping him but it's ok when Pac does it.
Pac is now going to fight Morales and guess what will happened? He will probally KO Morales and get so much hype again despite Morales having already lost 2 in a row, 1 by KO, and was nearly shut out in all of them.
There is so much double standard going on that its pitiful. Pac can beat up on guys past there prime but get so much credit. Pac fights a bunch of guys coming off of losses but people rip Floyd if he does it. Pac in the last 6 years, has lost a fight by a clear UD, lost a fight by KO, had a draw in a fight where he dropped a guy 3 times, and had a draw in a fight despite his opponent having 2 points takened away from him. 2 years prior to that he was also KO again.
No, he is not #1 and people need to stop giving him so much credit for these wins. This is clearly not noway near the same Morales who beat Pac a couple of years back but people will act like Morales was the p4p best after Pac beats him again.
After Hopkins beat Tito he then fought Hakkar, Daniels, Allen for the 3rd time, and a washed up ass Joppy but no one ever talked about dropping Hopkins ranking. Its a double standard.
I just gave you Pac's resume and most of you have also heard me break down Winky's shit also. Him beating a Mosley who was basically new to the weight and hadnt won in 4 straight fights or Tito basically coming off of a 2 year retirment and had just been murdered 2 fights before. Both Mosley & Tito clearly werent anywhere near the top of there game when Winky beat them. These guys recent wins arent as big as people make them out to be at all and definatly Floyd deserves to be #1 over them, espically if he beats Baldy.
People just hate Floyd so much that its a double standard and they love to rip him but overlook guys who do the same exact things and even worse stuff
who's resume is better than pacmans in the last couple of years?
Winky?
Taylor-Draw
Sam Soliman? 31-7
Tito- coming back from retirement and was obviously not the same
Mosely- a blown up Welterweight
Lets not even talk about the bums mayweather has been fighting..
So who else?
you don't have to like Pacquiao but respect the accomplishments.
So if he beats the current legitimate 147 champ, thats a problem?
Just because Baldomir beat Gatti all of sudden he becomes legitimate? Before Gatti/Baldomir fought not many were even recognizing Baldomir as anything..but now since he beat Gatti who was just a shell of himself all of a sudden he's legitimate. Anyone would've done that to Gatti that night. Too many belts get passed around, they don't mean as much. Manny Pacquiao is the best at 130, but who has the belt? who knows...
Roy's a great fighter..no doubt..but the last couple of losses will somewhat taint his career..you have to admit that that was a huge landslide in his career, probably one of the worst in recent memory. Now if he had won the 3rd tarver fight, then that would add to his legacy, but losing the way he did made it seem like he lost his heart to fight, and people will remember that.
Promoters
Too many paper titles
$$ ruining fights that should've happened.
Mike Tyson...cuz after him, the casual boxing fan only wanted to see knockouts and had no appreciation and patience for a good 12 rounder.
oh yeah, PPV...cuz now they'll put any fight on PPV.
Merchant and lamps are too biased at times...i like the younger merchant from his first hbo telecasts...manny is the most knowledgable..barry tompkins was good too.
It doesn't matter what a bunch of rich sanctioning bodies say or rich business men say. It's about the fights and the fighters. if title belts legitimize fighters for you then so be it. I don't care what the WBC, WBA, or IBF say. but obviously you do.
Do you have any idea how a champion is decided?
The man who beat the man is the man. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. What I outlined for you is the list of names who held the ONE AND ONLY WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP....and who beat them back to the root....Donald Curry, who unifed the 147 Lb division after Ray Leonard retired.
Yeah..and Nicolay Valuev is the real heavyweight champ!
*sighs* Okay. Read this Reeaaaly slow.
Belts have nothing to do with it...it's the man, got it?.....THE MAN...and Carlos beat the man who beat the man who beat THE MAN.
Please tell me you get that.
sorry, lunch break...anyway....
in order to beat the man you have to be allowed to fight the man, and in these times it's not that easy to get a shot at the man even if your qualified to fight him. So who's to say Baldomir is the man? He could just be a guy who lucked into that position. Baldomir was either a mandatory or just a guy who Zab thought he could beat before he fought mayweather.
No, he's not....there isn't one at the moment.
Are you so saturated in Alphabet Soup belts that you can't grasp the concept of "lineage"?
sorry buddy, you're the one caught up in title belts...belts don't make a fighter a champion. at least not these days.
I don't remember the first fight i saw, but the first one i remember was hagler/hearns in 85..i was four..only reason i remember it was cuz i had never seen my dad so excited about something on tv before. I've been a fan ever since.
Damn man, it hurts you that much that pacman is on top that you had to write out a whole essay? morales won one, pac won one...so let the last fight speak for itself..don't act like it's not gonna happen.
As for barerra, he's got juarez to worry about, and marquez just lost..blame that one on nacho.
