i started watchin boxin not long ago,the fights on channel 5 got me into it then i started watchin clips on youtube n downloadin fights, and what fighter got u into boxing?my first favourite fighter was arturo gatti,i didnt know much about boxin and watchin his heart and how he can take a beatin was shockin
I still remember the very first fight I saw. My dad was a big Tito fan being from PR and all, so I watched the Camacho fight with him. I was only six or seven at the time. I remember going to a a big gathering to watch the Holyfield/Tyson rematch. That was crazy. I didnt really get into boxing untill 2002-2003. I just started catching more boxing on HBO and Showtime and slowly built up interest.
and you stuck with it? 98 was quite a weak year if I recall correctly because Tyson was no longer competing, although you had De La Hoya peaking, etc. I think I watched more wrestling in 98 because Stone Cold was on top of the game. I was also 12 in 98, so that's cool.
i pray to god that ur not still a wresting fan.
and i was 13 in 98 i think
watching some guy dominate a fight, try to showoff in the last round, and get knocked out with one punch, got me into boxing. I still dont know who those fighters are but i remember that video vividly. It gave me a strong respect of the power these guys have.
The first fight i ever watched was a replay joe louis vs Rocky merciano. that helped as well
when i was younger i used to always sleep at my aunties house and my uncle was a big bruno fan and i remember watching bruno/tyson 2 with him and i was bout 5 so i never really understood it.
but then as i got older naseem hamed came onto the scene and my uncle started following him and i genuinly fell in love with hes showboating. and then my auntie gave birth ot her 1st child so i began sleeping less and less and boxing kinda faded outta my life.
as i got older i watched the od fight here and there on sky and began watching ricky hatton and then i decided to explore other divisions and now id call myself a hardcore fan
My grandfather boxed in the US Army and has always been a follower, and my great uncle is referee Waldemar Schmidt, so I've always had boxing present in my life. But I was always a basketball follower and despite knowing the names of boxers and who was good and all that, the first fight I was anticipating, bought, and saw was Tito and Oscar when I was 12. Since then I've become a huge follower of the sport, I at least make sure to watch any major fight under any circumstances possible.

This will date me; but the 1st fight I ever saw was the 1st Ali/Liston fight----I was 10 or 11 years old and everyone at my house hated Ali (called Cassius Clay then of course) and said how bad Liston was going to beat him---yeah, Right! He was my hero from that fight on.
I was born in '76 so by the late '80's the Tyson lore had drawn in all the young kids. I don't remember which was the first one I saw. His opponenets didn't matter to the kids anyway because we were made to think "Nobody could beat Mike Tyson" like the name of the Fresh Prince song.
The first fighter I really like was De La Hoya. Do any of you guys remember seeing him on Saturday afternoon network television (Wide World of Sports??)?? DLH was marketed heavily also in the early '90's with stories in SI and fights on free TV.
I don't remember the first fight i saw, but the first one i remember was hagler/hearns in 85..i was four..only reason i remember it was cuz i had never seen my dad so excited about something on tv before. I've been a fan ever since.
In 1998, at the tender age of 12.

My Dad bought me a copy of "the thrilla in manilla" when I was probably 12 or 13, and I've been an Ali and boxing fan ever since. I still can watch the "thrilla" or "rumble" everytime it airs on ESPN classic; those fights are timeless. :o
funny thing was i was about 9 , an i remember my dad sayin before it , i dont know if u should watch this , he was genuinely worried bout holyfields health
GOOD CALL DAD ! ! ! !
your dad wasn't alone, man. I was at a party where the host had bet a lot of money on Holyfield. He never said how much, but he was flipping out at the end. Everyone in the house was going nuts. I watched the rematch and was like man, fuck this sport. But I started watching again for Holyfield-Lewis's unification series 2 years later.
The first live event i've seen is Tyson Vs. Williams, and that got me into boxing. But, i've already seen a lot of clips on Tyson before that. And now, i'm just hooked on it.
I was at that fight :D
first fight i ever watched was tyson-holyfield
that was the first one I ever watched with real interest and I was immediately hooked. I feel ya, man. That's still one of the best fights ever in terms of drama and the good guy/underdog coming out on top in a fight nobody thought he could win.
