Thanks - like I said I could be wrong. I'm no fighter and I've never had my hands wrapped before. I was assuming the wrap had to go around your thumb (therefore having a hole for the thumb). Thanks for clarifying.
I could be wrong, but I don't think these pics prove anything. In the pic of Margarito, the blood stain is on the bottom of the left hand. In the pic of the wrap, the blood stain looks to be on the opposite side. So imagine slipping your left hand into that wrap - wouldn't the blood stain end up on the wrong side? Wouldn't it end up on your knuckle closest to your left thumb instead of at the bottom? Not saying he did or didn't cheat in the Cotto fight - just that I'm not sure you can prove this from those pics.
1. Theres been a big percentage of people ready to boycott the fight 4 the mismatch it is even in the negotiation stage.

Shadey you're a good poster man. You set me straight the other day in that Cotto vs Berto poll. You are absolutely right about #1 here. I will NOT support this fight. I felt like Oscar vs Floyd was a sham, and this is even worse. I want this fight to backfire on Oscar so bad.
Hey cool story RTS. I had something similar happen to me. I met Fred Ladd out here at Fedex one day. This was a few months before the Hatton vs Castillo fight. I was up here for some training, and I just happened to strike up a conversation with this guy. I have to say, he was a really nice dude! I felt bad because I never saw him fight. He even fought Castillo! He told me that Castillo was real slick and kept hitting him in the ear with shots he never saw coming. Said he couldn't hear out of one ear for eight months after the fight!
Of course, I had to go straight to boxrec and he was telling the truth: http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=7735&cat=boxer
Its a small world!
I gave the nod to Margarito. I think Forrest is the better fighter and I also think Forrest would outbox him. However, Forrest is getting up there in age and it really showed in his first fight with Mora. It looks like he is starting to have trouble pulling the trigger, and thats not a problem you want to bring in the ring with Margarito. Sadly, I think Margarito would catch up to him at some point and stop him.
roy will literally be smiling at joe if he does that
LMAO! At the end of that flurry, Joe catches the ref with a clean right hand and the ref doesn't even know he got hit!
If Quintana can give Cotto hell then I think Berto can too. This is a hard fight to choose from because Berto has not been tested yet. However, I think I see something great in Berto. Cotto is my favorite fighter right now, but my head tells me that Andre is just a bad style matchup for him. Andre seems to have all of the things that Cotto has had to struggle to overcome in the past: speed + movement + good body work.
For some reason, I always pick against Cotto and he proves me wrong almost every time! I hope they make this fight so he can try to prove me wrong again!
Sometimes I wonder why boxers even fight nowadays. They sacrifice EVERYTHING to get in that ring. Then the first time they lose, the so called "fans" who have never been in a fight in there life calls them a bum. Its easy to call someone a joke when you're not the one getting hit.
Sure. I don't think the styles match up well, I think it's going to look like the Judah fight, except maybe shorter.
Berto's handspeed could definitely give Cotto some trouble, like Judah's did.
But at the end of the day, Berto likes to engage, but he hasn't been in the ring with someone who could hit like Cotto, plus he's showed a shaky chin. Say all you want about Cotto's chin, but he has withstood shots from bigger punchers than Berto, and Berto's been shaken.
Berto also can't outbox him. I think Cotto's jab would be the major factor. His left jab is very stiff and if he establishes it early it could go a long way to neutrilizing Berto's uppercuts cause he likes to throw them inside. Berto doesn't show the necessary patience that an elite fighter with his skills must show. He's over-aggressive at times and against a guy like Cotto who is an underrated counter puncher, I think it could spell trouble.
I would never count Berto out though. He's uber talented, and guys with faster hands than Cotto(Judah,Torres) have given him some trouble. Should be a great fight, I just don't think Berto's quite ready.
Hmmm..this is a really good breakdown and you've really got me thinking! I totally agree with the part about Cotto's jab as well as with what you said about Berto being impatient. This fight has all of the ingredients to be great. You've got 2 guys that can both crack, but one guy is speedier. Both of them have shown a shaky chin at times. You've also got the question marks around the untested Berto. Good post man!
Most of the people posting are going with Berto while most of the people voting for Cotto are not posting.
For all of those picking Cotto - can you break down your reason for doing so? I am genuinely curious what you think.
quite honestly, you have never really seen a boxing match until you've sat ringside. Or more to the point never felt a boxing match until you've sat ringside, plus you dont have to listen to commentators as they try to express what they seem to know little about (excluding Atlas and Kellerman ofcourse) There you can almost feel the shots. You see it all, hear it all and like I said just about feel it all. Its a whole new ball game from that vantage point. Nothing like ringside, except being in there yourself ofcourse........Rockin'
Most definitely. I would never pass up the opportunity to be ringside. I've got a lot of work to do to ever be able to afford that!

Hey Rockin' do you fight? I seem to remember someone with a similar username that was a fighter....
Well, I'd imagine you're one of those guys that thought Johnson was robbed. No, robbed is what happened to Pea versus JCC. It was a close fight, and people seeing Jonson winning, I really have no problem with. Robbed? Naw.
Dawson is still learning. And old or not, Tarver came to fight. Dawson won 9-3, and hurt Tarver in the 12th.
Like I said, I'm wasn't hating on Joe when I said Dawson would beat him. But the Joe of today would be in trouble against Dawson. The chin issue of Dawson would probably not even be an issue against Joe. And that leaves us with everything else.
Joe would want no parts of Dawson as of right now. This isn't some guy with limited skills and only a huge punchers chance. Dawson has got the tools.
Da Spirit - the first time I watched that fight, I really did think Glen Johnson was robbed. The second time I watched the fight, I had it closer. This is just my opinion, which doesn't count for much, but the way I see it that fight was either a draw or a Johnson win. Johnson was picking off too many of Chad's shots with his gloves. I don't know if I would go so far as to say "robbery", but I will go as far as to say that I don't see how you could have Chad winning it.
I keep imagining him fighting Vernon Forrest. Vernon is a better fighter, but I think James could give him a run for his money right now despite his flaws. Would love to see it!
Gatti would be a legend no matter what generation he fought in. This man is everything that "prize fighting" stands for and then some. I'm the type who likes to watch guys that come to FIGHT. Gatti is and always will be my kinda fighter! He left nothing in the ring!
That's a very good and honorable opinion. I also have respect for everyone who gets in the ring...
But that being said, this thread was not meant to be taken too seriously - I was hoping to make somebody laugh.
Anyway, it looks like Tye Fields is running away with the poll.
I'm sorry man. I think I need to grab a cup of coffee. I'm a much nicer guy after I've had my caffeine!
castillo beat mayweather
You may be right about this, but almost every fighter is gonna have a bad decision go their way if they fight for long enough. And vice versa too.
Also - was there a rematch clause in that fight? If there was not a rematch clause, then you have to admit it was a good move on Floyd's part for fighting him again.
i cheered, rooted for mayweather against hatton...i dont HATE him, i just think hes a pussy for retiring and not fighting Cotto or Margarito.
After our national anthem got booed, I think even Floyd haters were cheering him on. I'm glad they did that now because it made that KO so bitter sweet. And this is coming from probably the LEAST patriotic dude you've ever met. I remember everyone that was watching the fight with me being pissed!
Xcaret is obviously a Floyd hater.
I was a hater for a while too because I felt like he had the welter division on hold. I'm man enough to admit this. What cured me of my hate was going back and watching Floyd fight where he actually belongs: 140 and below. In my eyes he was a noticeably different fighter above 140. I think he knew that these welters were simply too big for him. You can say what you want about skills, but at some point size does matter. I'm not saying that he couldn't beat MOST of them, but almost any top 5-10 welter would be a big risk for him simply due to size. However, I feel it was wrong of him to put the division on hold for so long. I would NEVER talk bad about him as a fighter though. To ignore his talent is just silly in my opinion.
This thread got me thinking - I think Tito vs. Margarito at a catch weight would be a good fight. I actually think Tito would have a chance even at this point! Would anybody else pay to see this?
I have heard several people say that Mike didn't want anything to do with Foreman. Don't know if it is true or not, but I do know that Mike had tremendous respect for Big George.
Hey fellas - I found a clip of this on youtube. It was a punch that he never saw coming: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aKO1BPIH-I
I post this out of respect - I hope this is not inappropriate. R.I.P.
I'm so back and forth on this fight right now. I'm leaning towards Delahoya, but I'm definitely not dismissing Manny like everyone else seems to be. If the Oscar that fought Floyd shows up, I honestly think Manny could pull it off. If the Oscar that was throwing combinations against Forbes shows up, it will be a long night for Manny.
I just can't make up my mind because of the weight issue for both of them. For all we know, Oscar could look good for the first few rounds like he did against Floyd and then just burn out! Guess it depends on which Oscar shows up that night!
