joe didnt look too hurt from that knockdown. . . he would have made it passed the first round. hes been down before and survived.
i think a prime joe vs a prime rjj would still be a competitive fight. joe has good speed and an amazing work rate. would be fairly competitive but a clear cut victory for rjj.
i think people really underrate this win. i mean it wasnt an incredible win, but it was a good one. before i my thoughts went like this:
even a past-prime, weight drained de la hoya would be able to beat pac. some forget that de la hoya was a great fighter and at the time i thought even a shell of himself would beat a natural 130 pounder in pacquiao.
no question roy would dominate the majority of the fighters. we havent seen enough of andre ward though. i have a feeling ward would be a tough fight for jones.
top 5 worst (in no particular order):
mayweather vs baldomir
hopkins vs tarver
pacquiao vs clottey
pacquiao vs barrera 2 (only cuz i was expecting a war, but it wasnt too bad)
calzaghe vs jones (only because my all-time favorite fighter got clowned. respect to calz though)
keep in my mind i watched a lot of ppv fights. these are just the top 5 worst that i paid for.
bhop landed a much harder low blow than jones did and jones didnt even flinch. i felt roy could have gotten a couple of bernards points deducted if he acted in the same manor.
I don't understand comments like this. EVERYONE gets weaker with age. Roy Jones was 35 when he lost. Most fighters are finished by then. And most of them don't already have 50 fights, titles in multiple divisions, etc.
yeah most people get weaker by age, but what i meant was mayweather has the style that would make him at least competitive with the elite way past his prime.
kinda like hopkins. sorry for my bad wording.
im assuming its current fighters and not all-time.
top 5 home:
rjj
pavlik
toney
hopkins
mayweather
international:
pac
marquez
morales (should have stayed retired though)
gamboa
miguel cotto
if morales stayed retired, amir khan would be taking his place.
Agree/disagree?
completely different. rjj taunted his opponents a lot. he had a better offense.
rjj has the style that would make him significantly weaker with age. mayweathers style can possibly make him an elite fighter way past his prime.
if they were to fight then i would take fernando vargas by late rounds tko. he had the style to beat miguel cotto. plus he was just overall way bigger than cotto.
if were talking accomplishments, then its cotto.
i remember how people had kessler winning the super 6 and it wouldnt even be close. only person who would have a shot to win was AA.
my how things changed.
Sugar is also the guy who said JMM is a tough fight for Floyd then asked why Floyd is fighting a light weight.
i can respect where they are coming from though. its true he did fight a lightweight and didnt bother making weight.
the thing that bothers me, however, is how contradictory people are with floyd. they say whoever he fights stands a great chance, then after the fight make all the lame excuses.
i may be new to the forum and this probably has been said, but a great example is how hes fighting mosley. a lot of people said he was a pussy and he wasnt gonna fight shane when shane called him out. couple weeks later the fight gets made and now hes criticized for fighting him.
some of his low blows look suspect but overall i dont think he intends to hit low. he just throws a lot of shots to the body.
the one shot on judah looked intentional though. looked like he wanted to slow judah's work rate with a good shot to the nuts.
Shane Mosley is still the same fighter that struggled vs a totally shot & crappiest version of ricardo mayorga up to that date. I saw that fight & i just couldnt believe how sloppy, unathletic, & decrepit shane looked.
He kept on getting hit by mayorga's slow, looping, wild right hands only to regain some semblance of moral victory with a last second knockout.
The whole point of this thread is that mosley was made to look better than he really is by the worst version of antonio margarito. Imo, margarito was suffering ill effects of the cotto fight along with the mental instability of having been caught with plaster before the fight contributed to a totally shot fighter physically & mentally.
Margarito in that fight was slow, lethargic, he was literally dragging his whole body throughout the fight, his volume punching was totally gone, yet it took shane 9 rounds to dispose of the guy.
Come fight night, shane will be 4 months shy of his 39th birthday & will be out of the ring for exactly 1 year & 6 months. Yet people think this fight is gonna be great?
I will be rooting for shane but basically he basically has nothing but a punchers chance.
yes and hes still the same fighter that destroyed margarito and gave a great fight with an undefeated cotto.
nobody on this forum pays... everybody here streams.
pinoys will buy it and mexicans will buy it... and everyone else who doesn't know how to look for streams will buy it.
i disagree. i know plenty of people who throw parties for big fights. streaming isnt a good idea for a party is it? i get my streams on boxrec and only stream when the fighters are relatively unknown to the casual boxing fan. other than that id pay for big fights cuz theyre always on saturdays and its an excuse to drink with family and friends.
