Tyson returns to the ring in pursuit of the titles, only to be knocked out in devastating fashion in a rematch with none other than "the hurricane" Peter McNeeley, who then goes on to claim the world title in bizarre fashion when in a fight with John Ruiz, Ruiz's corner gets him DQ'ed because trainer Norman Stone rushed into the ring and suckerpunched ref. Randy Newman, while Newman was attempting to pull the fighters apart during one of Ruiz's Deathgrip clinches. Stone tries to justify his behavior by letting loose with nothing but profanity laced nonsense about how the ref. was paid by the crooked promoter to purposefully screw his Johnny out of his title, even though the promoter is none other than Ruiz's own Don King!
The only reason John "the cure for Insomnia" Ruiz is still champion is plain and simple DON KING!!!!!!! The guy can't imo be called a true champion, even though he has held onto a title like it's an opponent of his in a fight.
Fuck him, fuck his manager/trainer Norman Stone, and especially fuck Don King for letting this joke stay champ!!!!!!!!
From what I've seen of Witter he has pretty good power,(so did Naseem Hamed), He moves pretty good very unorthodoxed( like Hamed), He takes dangerous risks and shows a lack of quality defence (Like Hamed), imo put him up against a good technical fighter like Cotto and we'll see a heavier version of Barrera/Hamed. But as with Cotto give him time and he may surprise quite a few of the top guys, like I said he seems to have good power so there's always the punchers chance against anybody!
I think this means that Zab is trying to fight fast so he can hurry up and get his madatory out of the way so he can keep his titles while at the same time he can fight around the time that Zoo is fighting. Then he can get the Zoo match or if Oscar comes back it will make DLH think about Zab first since he has the titles and the bigger name in the states.
As scary as this is for me to say but I agree 100%, Zab has never been a fighter that I liked or cared to see fight (with the exception of him getting cracked by Tszyu hence the av), but he may have finally grown up and may just be on his way to being a truely dedicated champion that will actually defend his titles instead of just letting the belts be stripped from him!
If Zab is truely seeing his own potential for what it really is then he could imo be at the starting point of quite a stretch of big money, big name, big headlining showcase type ppv bouts, I always thought that he had real talent albeit raw and wild but talent nonetheless, imo he has always had it, it's just been buried under his ego and a huge pile of excuses. But maybe not any more
I should rephrase....Arguello should have won because that uppercut should have taken Pryor's head off...not because I don't think Pryor won it fair and square.
Are you talkinng about the right cross/straight that Arguello landed in the 14th rd., you know the punch where Pryor went from looking straight ahead to looking at the ceiling and then came right back at Alexis with a 3 or 4 punch combo? Man the Hawk could take a shot like very few others and keep on coming at you, and imo Arguello wins over all five rather decisively, with MAB maybe giving him the best fight (but only if he chose not to go to war then it'd be tko city).
wiiter with a point win and he knocks cotto down once in the mid rounds
would be a good fight thou
and who ever said cooto has mush better oposition is worng
cotto has not fight anyone of note until corely then i will say he just edges it on better opposition and dont metion pinto cos he was and over hyped and not up to much
Sounds like DLT either has another username or we just found his #1 fan.
I don't think Jones should ever fight again, but I definately think his ass should keep on commentating with Lampley and Merchant. I really like how every time they call a fight Lampley finds some way of bringing up the fact that Roy has gotten KO'ed twice in a row, Please Roy don't come back and win a fight and ruin that for me :D
Btw the Chunk AV and the Clubber Lang AV both fuckin rock, Iused to have that Clubber Action figure and I had forgotten all about those damn things until seeing that :)
Wow he got knocked down twice, then got up and finished the fight. And by the sound of it won the last few rds. Damn you must really be a Cotto fan like you say you are, a tuff opponent that he owns a win over loses, and you don't waste time ripping into him do you? Like this really changes peoples outlook on next weekends fight, Well other people besides you!
Nothing beats an awesome KO in Boxing
I don't care if you like Boxing or not
Seeing somebody take a right hook that sends them to the floor
Is one of the most exciting things you can watch
while that is absolutely true, the same can be said for alot of mma ko's. A couple of examples are, 1)Tank Abott's ko on Steve Nelmark, that shit looked like it killed him! 2)Mirko CroCop's ko on Igor Vovchenchyn(sp) left high kick to the dome and dude looked scrambled!
I don't recall ever saying that I'd pick him over all the top fighters right now. Now having said that I do think that in time he will be good enough to beat all the top fighters in the division, the key words there is "in time". Right now I would however say he has a good shot at beating everyone at 140 except for Tszyu and PBF, that's right now. At this time next year and hellmaybe even by the end of 2005 IMO he would have a damn good shot at the twoo of them as well!
True, Vargas stood a lot longer against Tito than Mayorga did and no one calls mayorga "glass jaw"
I know Vargas didn't stand there asking to get hit like Mayorga did either but he almost made to the end of the fight which is pretty impressive.
Actually if you watch the fight, Vargas made it out of the 1st rd. only by some kinda divine interventio, cause he got the shit knocked outta him twice in the first two minutes of rd. 1. So to say that he stood longer than Mayorga is crap, because the last time I saw the fight he stood then fell then stood then fell then stood for awhile longer then fell a bunch of times! LOL!!!!
As for his big comeback, this guy is as done as anyone I've seen in awhile. He didn't take DLH's shots to well at 154, and anybody can see that Oscar didn't carry his power up in those higher weights like he should have(which imo is why he wants to go back to 147). The fight I want to see at 154 is Vargas vs. Mayorga. Cause it would be fuckin hilarious to watch Vargas get smoked by someone as cocky as Mayorga.:D
I love mma and boxing both, but I'd have to say that after the way decisions in boxing became so apparently currupt on such an obvious and grand scale I like mma a bit more than boxing now. I hate it when a big time boxing match goes to the scorecards anymore, because it seems that no matter who the fighters or the judges are the decisions are suspect.
As far as Matt Hughes and Bj Penn go they will probably never have a chance to rematch after the falling out Bj had with Zuffa:mad:, But if they do get to fight again I'd have to go with Hughes by split dec.(I actually thought Matt lost when he fought Charuto,)(Penn's trainer)
Tito was a good, and I stress the word good, not great champion while he held the title. But I just haven't seen him get any better in the last 3 years, he has imo actually become one of if not the most boring fighters in the UFC, and if him and Chuck go again look for the same result to happen only sooner!
Chuck and Randy II will be a real good fight to judge exactly how much better the Iceman has gotten, since there first fight he has been on an impressive roll imo, but so has Randy. That frikin dude has to be imo the most phenomenal athlete that there has ever been in combat sports. I keep waiting for him to show the signs of being the fighter that got old overnight as they say, but shit he just keeps getting better. In this fight I'm gonna go with Randy by UD
I was talking about who ever was talking about vargas.
I want to see Trinidad Vargas2
Yea I'd love to watch Tito beat the fuck right outta him again as well!!!!:D
And by the way when you say shit like "I was talkin about whoever was talkin bout Vargas", you really come off lookin like a blind ass fucktard!
Say what ever happened to the guy that left your boy Vargas layed out cold in his living room when your "WARRIOR" broke into his house to get even for dissin his homies?
Roy would have ran his asss off until Gerald started to tire and then Roy would try and land a few bombs of his own only to get caught with a good shot and then, LIGHTS OUT ROY!
I think I'm basing my opinion on both fighters level of competition , I have never and problly never will be all that impressed with alot of the guys Roy has beaten, imo he fought way too many guys that had full time jobs outside the ring, postman, a cop, a garbageman from New Zealand, While Gerald fought quite a few really good opponents, Roy seemed to like to fight the guys that weren't nearly as dangerous, of course excluding Tony and B. Hop neither of which had the ko power of the G-man.
Vinnie Paz was alway a bit overrated I mean come on the guy was a blown up washed out lightweight when he fought Roy! Come on dude damn. But yes it was Roy's next "defense" after Paz.
g-man fought nobodies. have you ever heard of james toney, bernard hopkins, mike mccallum, vinny paz, virgill hill or john ruiz? roy fought and beat all these guys. who did gerald fight?
Nobodies huh, well your right I haven't ever heard of Toney, B-Hop, that's why I included them in my post! Damn man read before you respond, anyways point was this- Roy fought McCallum when he was 40 years old = nowhere near as dangerous as he once was, same goes for Virgil Hill, both were really good top notch fighters at one time but imo their time was well past when Roy fought them. Now I sure as hell have a problem with you saying that Gerald fought nobodies and then saying how roy hasn't, Case in point Tony "the punching postman" Thorton wow what a worthy challenger. Next we have a cop from NYC named Richard Frazier who believed in his abilities so much that he sold ad space on the BOTTOM of his frickin shoes( in case you don't realize that is so we could see the ad when he got ko'ed. Then there was Glen "the garbageman" Kelley from Austrailia or somewhere like that, Who by the way followed his ko loss to RJJ up by being ko'ed in only 4 rds. by Paul Briggs, then winning three fights in a row over stiff competition, and I do mean STIFF the three opponents records combined for a whopping 33 wins 22 losses and three draws. Not exactly world class title challenging material is it. Now let's realize that Gerald's career was cut short and he had already fought John "the beast" Mugabi, who lasted 11 rds. with Hagler and 1 rd against Gerald. Julian Jackson (who has unquestionable ko power)twice only lasting 5 rds. and 1 rd., Gilbert Baptist who may not have had the prettiest record but was definately a worthy opponent, hell he went 12 w/ B. Hop, 12 w/ Boudouni, 12 w/ Pettway, 12 w/ Rosi. He lasted ONE against Gerald.
I can't really figure out what to think about Roy's fight w/ Ruiz, I mean true he moved up and fought the Heavyweight Champion , But it's Ruiz for gods sake and on top of that it was with Jay Nady as ref( who in case you didn't know is a ref who will not let a fighter hold and hit which is Ruiz's only means of offence) So it's really kinda sketchy at best. Like I have said before this long winded reply from this Kansas gasbag is only ny opinion so take it for what it is, I just think that if they had fought G-man would have won by ko.
On a side note does anyone else remember when Roy challenged Nigel Benn to fight after the McClellan fight and was gonna donate his purse to the G- man , except Benn wouldn't do it. I always thought that was really a great gesture from Roy.
That's the only way I'll ever watch Ruiz fight again- if it's a tag-team fight between Ruiz,Stone-Bowe and Rock Newman! Can somebody please explain why Newman used to always wear all the african clothes and what not, i didn't think he was South African?
i gave Golota 4 rounds but that 2nd KD was suspect. ruiz was clearly winning every round and should have never lost a point, either or they should have also taken a point away from golota a few times. and i still beleive close rounds go to the champ. if you want to be champ you have to come and take it. thats why he didn't win against byrd.
Man I hope your joking, Ruiz did nothing but jab>clinch the first 5-6 rounds then started to throw combos=jab, hook, hook, cross>clinch, rabbitpunch, rabbitpunch. And as far as the fouls called IMO Ruiz's plan was to make Golota mad by holding and hitting to the back of the head in hopes that he would retaliate and be DQ'ed. Which btw I am shocked Golota didn't snap on him. Ruiz seemed to think that the refs job is to let him get away with whatever he wants and at the same time take points away from his opponent for the same damn thing. His constant complaining on Sat. probably influenced Newman to not take pts. away from Golota, not to mention that little troll trainer Stone.Don't get me wrong Golota fought terrible sat. but how anyone can consider what he was doing "landing the cleaner more effective punches thru the first 8-9 rds. is beyond me.Since Don King seems to be hellbent on destroying hw boxing heres an idea for the next ppv main event guaranteed to collapse the division John "the cure for insomnia" Ruiz VS. Henry Akinwande(sp?)They could give it a neat catch phrase like enough hugs to solve world peace!
Agreed I haven't seen O. Sheika fight that well ever. I remember thinking that he was gonna be a real force back when I first saw him fight, he was just plowing thru people then his defense got exposed and I definately thought he was finished after he lost to Lucas. I hope he gets more fights on tv as a result of this showing tonight cause that was def. a fight of the year candidate!
That was a scary ass ko for sure, funny thing is I turned the fight on as they were being introduced and saw Peter and I thought "holy shit Ike Ibeabuchi is finally out of prison" I swear them two dudes could be twins. Of course that's assuming Ike isn't as ripped nowadays but I'd def. like to see Peter vs. Ike!
I will say Tito is def. the hardest puncher in the middleweight division, But as far as p4p I think Kostya's right is as solid as anyone else in boxing.
I think Sheika's chin is just fine. His problem before was his defense which imo is getting much better. And as far as him "trying to return punches" the right hand he landed early on damn near put Lacy on his ass, it almost looked like he looked at the ref. as soon as he got cracked and said "oh shit", either way I thought it was a great fight and imo definately stole the show from Joel/Castillo. We should be seeing alot more of Sheika after his performance last night.
yes I agree. the purpose of the middleweight tourney was to find the one and only true champ. it was settled so why do we need another tourney? -----but the heavyweight division is in need of a unification and needs a tourney to find the one and only champion. it will be interesting to see who comes out as the one and only champ of the heavyweights.
That's easy there is already one amd only one heavyweight champ,
Don King the rest(including us fans) are the losers while he always wins!
definately a bad corner, but not the worst that title still belongs to Tyson's homies in Tokyo! I was almost wondering if that black guy in Danny's corner was under the impression that yelling at his eye would stop the swelling, cause he sure as hell wasn't using that enswell enough!
