Alexis started his pro career as a feather in 75 when he KOd Ruben Olivares. He successfully defended his title several times (mostly by KO) before moving up to superfeather in 78 by KOing Alredo Escalera.
From 78 to 82, he defended his title and prevailed over such who's-who in boxing at the time - Bobby Chacon, Bazooka Limon, Rolando Navarrette, Boza-Edwards, Boom-boom Mancini, Robert Elizondo and other boxing greats. :boxing:
Until his fateful decision to move up again - to jr welter - where and was demolished and retired by Aaron Pryor (not only once but twice!) :(
How do you think he would have fared against any of the best feather/superfeather of today?
1. Pacman
2. MAB
3. Morales
4. JMM
5. even Prince Naz
Yeah, probably the best feather/superfeather of all time. :hail:
I think he's the best super feather of all time and probably a top 5 feather, behind Pep, Sanchez and Saddler.
Argüello is widely considered as one of the best p4p fighters of all time. He was a terror at 126, 130 and 135. Probably the best super feather ever.
Yeah, probably the best feather/superfeather of all time. With his impeccable record KOing some of the greatest names in boxing history - Ruben Olivares, Alredo Escalera, Bobby Chacon, Bazooka Limon, Rolando Navarrette, Boza-Edwards, Boom-boom Mancini, Robert Elizondo, etc. - that should speak a mouthful for itself!! :hail:
imho If Alexis Can Ko Pac & Jmm, No Way Em & Mab Can Survive 12 Rounds Against This Monster ...
Morales can survive the 12 rounds because he has a granite chin. Not saying it would be close, but he could go the distance with the Explosive Thin Man.
Being the better all-around boxer of the bunch, MAB could give Arguello a good fight. He'd have to be in the best shape of his career though, and extremely focused. In other words, the MAB that fought Naz or Morales (I) could give Argüello trouble, although it wouldn't be enough to beat him.
just saw the barrera-hamed fight... and i would say manny can definitely beat him... barrera was fast in that fight... what more with manny in there??? pac beats naz...
Styles make fights. Naz - Pac would be a lot more like JMM - Pac than Pac - MAB.
Anyway that's not what this thread is about. Argüello is widely considered as one of the best p4p fighters of all time. He was a terror at 126, 130 and 135. Probably the best super feather ever.
He would have handled today's premier feathers. He'd KO JMM and PAC, UDs Morales. An incredibly well trained, focused MAB could give him fits, imo, but Arguello wins by SD.
I should rephrase....Arguello should have won because that uppercut should have taken Pryor's head off...not because I don't think Pryor won it fair and square.
Are you talkinng about the right cross/straight that Arguello landed in the 14th rd., you know the punch where Pryor went from looking straight ahead to looking at the ceiling and then came right back at Alexis with a 3 or 4 punch combo? Man the Hawk could take a shot like very few others and keep on coming at you, and imo Arguello wins over all five rather decisively, with MAB maybe giving him the best fight (but only if he chose not to go to war then it'd be tko city).
again we will never know for sure, our opinions will always be that an opinion. Did anybody expected douglas to KO tyson? anything can happen in the ring but as of now Arguello KILLS ALL 126 and 130lbs fighter from today untill the day we all die :D

Well, Pryor was one lucky dude. Or we can also say that Pryor can take Arguello's biggest puch. Anyway, that first meeting was very brutal, and Arguello was hospitalized for a few months after the fight!
The first bout was controversial and debatable. But Pryor won the rematch decisively.
An interesting trivia on Arguello -
Prior to his first fight with Pryor, an armed Sandinista (the communit rulers of his country Nicaragua) managed to enter his locker room and tried to kill him. The would-be assassin was overwhelmed and arrested. A very close call indeed!

He should have beat Pryor in their first fight. It amazes me how Aaron's head stayed attached to his neck when Arguello hit him with that filthy uppercut in the later rounds (I dont remember the exact round).

None of those would have any chance vs Arguello, imo. Probably an inspired MAB, and that's reaching. Arguello KOs JMM, UDs Morales and basically kills both Pac and Naz

i vividly remember two Arguello fights one when he beat the crap out THE HAWAIAN PUNCH Andy Ganigan who is a FIL-AM and that eventful fight with THE HAWK Aaron Pyror ...
I'll reserve my answer lil' bit later my friend...
:boxing:
Arguello was a surgeon with his punches and could take you out with any punch at any time. I honestly think that Morales would have the most success against Alexis strictly based on his range and natural boxing ability. The fact that he has an exceptional chin would help him as well.
