Last night's fight between Taylor and Joppy answered a few questions. Is Taylor legit? Yes. Is Joppy shot? Probably, at least it's clear that he will never have a belt again. But I think you all have to agree that Trinidad is the most devastating puncher in the division, hands down. I'll tell you why. Well, let the facts tell you and you decide.
May 2001, Trinidad-Joppy
Joppy was known to have a very good chin and was actually undefeated( if you forget about the questionable loss he had against JC Green). Trinidad dropped him 3 times including one in the first round. Trinidad wins by TKO in 5 rounds.
November 2001, Joppy-Eastman
Eastman is able to drop Joppy only once in the last round. Joppy wins on points.
December 2003, Hopkins-Joppy
Hopkins faces a Joppy who is clearly not the same he was when he faced Trinidad. Yet, Joppy goes the distance and was never dropped.
November 2004, Taylor-Joppy
This is a Joppy who had not fought in almost a year. Taylor, a talented prospect, is getting Joppy three and a half years after Trinidad destroyed him. Yet, he only dropped him once and Joppy made the distance although he won only one round, in my opinion.
Result: Only Trinidad can brag because he is the only one to stop William Joppy in a career that includes almost 40 fights and covers more than 10 years.
Hes got a good punch big deal. Doesnt mean he's the best. Hopkins beats him everytime.
No shit ?
That's neither the topic nor the subject.
Trinidad is the best puncher at 160. Echols (if he was at 160) would be the HEAVIEST puncher, but Trinidad is the most LETHAL puncher.
Tito's the best puncher i've ever seen.He may not be the absolute hardest puncher but between his timing, technique and commitment to the punch he's in a class by himself.
*corrales is also a great puncher on the inside
There is no way that Hopkins is a harder puncher than Trinidad. Hopkins has a better chin than him but the power belongs to Trinidad.
Tito did not KO hoya but b-hops did. So who do you say has more power?
Tito has awesome punching power...only rivaled at this point by Tszyu, Marquez, and Lacy IMO. The reason I put Lacy on the table is because he's rather inexperienced. He'll learn to channel his power and will become a much more devastating puncher than he already is as he gains experience. Tito certainly ranks among the top guys in terms of all time punching power P4P.
Regarding Hop and Tito, Tito has the harder punch but Hopkins is much stronger than Tito overall. The reason Hopkins was able to take Tito's punch is because he was barely hit with anything hard. He beat Tito to the punch, dodged most of his power shots, and ate anything left over. Hopkins is currently too strong and too physical for anyone at middle...and he's so crafty and conditioned that it won't change for another couple of years.
Oh and Chris Byrd has a hell of a punch too...Ottke and Urkal too. :D
tito has alot of power but i don't know about having the most in the middles. b-hop has more if you ask me. i am a tito fan and all but there is also a realistic side to me.
This thread is about the middleweight division.
My bad. I didnt read the first thread, just the title, but if Echols can still make weight then he might be. X still says this is the hardest puncher that he's faced

Chico is. That's why I'm the only one who thinks he could upset Zoo
I'm a big Tito fan but B-hop knocked him out so B-hop is the harder puncher. Maybe b-hop just did enough to beat joppy because the man was already washed up but when he is facing quality opponents he becomes meaner.

if ur goin by that then ike has more power than tito cuz ike atleast dropped dlh and tito didnt even hurt dlh
That's not even the point. Funny how I start a thread and some posters make it morph into something completely different. Those fights were as night and day. Very different. DLH chose to box and never engage Trinidad. DLH-Quartey saw Oscar fighting and going for it. Besides, DLH was not hurt by Quartey. It was a flash knockdown.
well trindad is very powerful but hes no hopkins
Trinidad is a much bigger puncher than Hopkins. It's not even close. Hopkins has an awesome chin and that is why he was able to take Tito's punch.
When Tito really starts getting his legs into his punches, he is one of the best. What sets him apart from KT and Marquez is that he boxes well and has good movement / jabbing before the power shots.
KT and Marquez are a little more in love with their power.
However, the game plan against either of them is the same. Jab / move laterally / jab. If you start to exchange, their defense is good enough so that you will not hit them as much as you are hit and you will not hit them as hard as you are hit.
On the tier below that, you have guys like Corrales, Cintron, Lacy, Vitaly Klit.
It would be interesting to see each of them hit a computer that registers their force (lbs / square inch) and then divide it by their weight in lbs, to get some sort of inverse area measurement.
My guess is that the hardest Pund 4 pound punchers are the littlest guys, just like the best pound for pound wieghlifters are 4'6 90lbs and can clean 250.
trinidad might be the hardest puncher at middleweight.
He is the hardest puncher at middleweight bar none! One thing everyone ask about, is when a fighter moves up in weight, can that they still maintain their power (if they are a power puncher)? With Tito, it seems like he has gotten more powerful as he's moved up in weight!
