If Quillin was the mandatory to Golovkin's belt
If the WBA made Quillin the mandatory challenger to Golovkin's belt tomorrow this is how it would go down: Golovkin would sign the contract no matter what the terms of the fight were cause he knows people like the creator of this thread are out there claiming that he has never fought anyone. Quillin would likely say he is too much of a draw to fight someone unheard of like Golovkin and boxing is a business even though he has has yet to headline a card and can't sell tickets for ****. Once 6 or 7 months pass and people are not posting cherry emojis on Quillin's instagram and cussing him out on twitter under every tweet he posts he will sign to fight some unheard of European on a Paulie Malignagi or Danny Garcia undercard. I really do not understand how Peter Quillin has fans.
and he will only get worse
He is only and 25 and he will only get worse from here on. Every time he gets a little time off from boxing he spends his time touring the clubs and gaining weight. I see him getting worse with age considering once you get into your late twenties and into your thirties it becomes harder and harder for your body to recover from all that ****. Al Haymon is also the ****tiest matchmaker in the business. He does not give Broner any type of fighter he can learn from. Broner fights nothing but soft touches and then when he got his one step up in competition because people were believing the hype it did not turn out to well. Every fighter that Broner has fought so far has been given to him with the intentions of having a predictible outcome where Broner looks great and with that edge Broner has still managed to lose and put on ****ty performances. I do not see Broner being able to beat Crawford, Garcia, Matthysse, Provodnikov or Petersen so if he wants to win a title at 140 it is going to have to be a made up PBC title vs a soft puncher or a wash up. Think about it like this, all the talent in Broner's weight class besides Crawford and Matthysse is with Al Haymon or plays nice with Al Haymon and look at the guys we are seeing Broner get matched up with. That is not a coincidence.
Kovalev is drawing more and more of a fan base with every fight while Stephenson's is losing fans. You can not deny Kovalev's last two fights and yeah you can argue it was Bhop and Pascal who drew the crowds but you know Kovalev walked out of those fights a star. Some of you can defend Stephenson and say he is elite but those numbers do not lie. Fans are not stupid. Haymon is killing his fighters careers by trying to build his own brand. People loved Danny Garcia post Matthysse. People loved Peter Quillin when he was coming up, and Mexican fans almost never turn their backs on one of their fighters but look at the hate Leo Santa Cruz has been getting lately. Go to any comments section on a Santa Cruz, Garcia or Quillin tweet or instagram pic and 98 percent of those comments will be negative. That is what happens when you try to build a brand instead of a fighter. Right now the money is good and the fans opinion does not matter thanks to the investors who have put their money into PBC but eventually the PBC is going to need to be a product that the fans are willing to pay for and it really isn't looking good.
Why people root against the PBC
People are rooting against the PBC because of the bad year Al Haymon gave everyone in 2014 with all those Showtime mismatches. Now Al Haymon has his own platform and can make things right and we are getting Bika vs Stephenson. The fans are not stupid and ratings will speak. It is nice to see Al Haymon's wallet is being affected instead of HBO's and Showtime's and we will see how he will react since he is looking to eventually get a major network to buy his product. I am not rooting against the PBC, I am hoping that these low ratings will lead to more competitive fights being made in the future. There is no reason Leo Santa Cruz should be making 750,000 dollars to fight nobodies and we will see how his fighters start to react when the money is not there and the level of competition is demanded to rise. I also do not like how the PBC is more about their brand than the fighter. This is why guys like GGG and Kovalev bring in ratings and sell tickets while a guy like Stepehnson doesn't. When guys like GGG and Kovalev fight, people are turning in to see the fighter because their promoter has worked to make the fighter a brand. Everyone wants to see these guys knock someone out and hear what they what they will say in the post fight interview. It gets you excited when Kovalev calls out Stephenson or GGG calls out Cotto. The PBC has been all about branding their promotional company and that has taken away from the fighters personality. When commentators can not mention Kovalev during a Stephenson fight or Adrien Broner can not spit his nonsense in a post fight interview how are we supposed to get excited about seeing these guys in the future? I love a lot of fighters on the PBC and I love the idea of getting people back into boxing. I really do want it to do well cause I love the amount of boxing I have been getting lately. I think the card on 4/11 is going to be a step in the right direction but I think people need to see boxing for what it really is. What is a Danny Garcia fight with out Angel Garcia being Angel Garcia? Unfortunately I do not think the casuals will get to see any of that.
Chavez beat down was worse because of the post fight interview. Man, I hope I am in the audience to throw beers when Peter Quillin bites off more than he can chew and takes a step up in competition. His day will come soon enough.
I wonder if Al Haymon is going to be that generous when Chavez wants that much money for his next fight against some 154 pound ESPN fighter moving up to 170 to meet him. I understand Al has been ****ting out money and is the same guy who gives Leo Santa Cruz 750,000 dollars to fight bums but how much money can you really pay Chavez for his next fight? Ticket sales were terrible for this fight and I am pretty sure the numbers are not going to be that good since this fight was up against a the NBA playoffs and Matthysse vs Provodnikov. I really can't see Al being able to justify giving Chavez over a million dollars next time around. Haymon's best bet is using the Chavez win to build up Fonfara as a beast and then sacrificing Fonfara to Beterbiev in an attempt to build a Kovalev like hype for one of his fighters and a Stevenson vs Beterbiev showdown.
1.Traevell Mazion-Anne Wolf's new fighter. Long skinny kid who has worked with her since he was a little kid and has been KOing everyone he fights.
2.Oscar Valdez- Looks to be the Mexican boxer who has potential to go farther than any other Mexican coming up right now.
3.Erroll Spence- An Al Haymon fighter who has had all these legendary sparring stories, most famously one about about knocking Broner out. Has been blowing out all the competition he has been faced with while being built up.
4. Felix Verdejo-Most likely the next big Puerto Rican superstar. He fights on Unimas tomorrow and then HBO will start televising his fights starting with one on June 13th at Madison Square Garden. Real Puerto Ricans have literally been jumping off the Cotto train and getting on the Verdejo train already.
5.Frankie Gomez-Freddie Roach fighter who Freddie Roach claims can beat Amir Khan right now. His fights are ****ing vicious. HBO is getting behind him too and putting him on the Canelo vs Kirkland undercard.
6. Joseph Diaz Jr.- American olympian with Mexican descent and out of all the Olympians he has the most potential as a pro after Errol Spence.
From what I gathered from listening to Leave it in the Ring radio, He left Ann Wolfe again and is now having problems with his new promoter (50 cent) over money. Kirkland always gets me so excited when he returns because he is so entertaining but then he falls back into making the same old mistakes from the past. I am assuming he is going to try and leave 50 cent considering 50 Cent wont be able to get him big fights and established promoters who can put Kirkland on their cards do not want to risk their guys against Kirkland or pay Kirkland good money to fight on their cards. Whoever told him to leave Golden Boy really gave him terrible advice.
A couple thoughts
1.Jay-Z should just keep trolling Al Haymon and bid an absurd amount of money on the Wilder/Stiverne fight.
2. I hope Kid Choc holds a press conference where he throws his belt in the trash the way Riddick Bowe did when he did not want to fight Lewis.
3.The interim belt that Jacobs has eventually leads to a GGG fight since he (GGG) holds the actual WBA title and not the interim. The Rubio vs GGG fight is for a shot at the mandatory WBC belt after the Cotto vs Canelo fight. Haymon has to be praying that Taylor somehow pulls off an upset against Soliman so he (Al Haymon) can have a fighter hold the IBF belt hostage to defend against a bunch of 50 and under ranked Europeans on Showtime. GGG seems to have put himself in a good place going into 2015. A lot of guys are not going to be able to run from him.
Haymon and Espinoze trying to sabotage Canelo going back to HBO
Isn't this the day Canelo is supposed to fight Clottey? Does Haymon really think Broner vs Soto and Khan vs Lopez can compete with Canelo on HBO ratings?
HBO needs to pick their game up.
Here is an idea, a double header at the home depot center with Provo vs Lundy and Rios vs Abregu. It will also help build another fight for these guys since everyone else is tied up in that four man tournament.
I saw that Canelo imposter at the Maidana vs Lopez fight. Steve Kim even wrote about him in one of his articles. He walks around a bunch of fights pretending to be Canelo. There was a huge crowd around him and he was taking pics with all kinds of people. A lot of drunk Mexican fans realized it wasn't him once they pushed their way to the front of the line to get a picture but still took one with him anyways cause they thought it was funny.
Damn
I was wondering why Haymon signed Molina considering he is 3-2 in his last five fights and his losses came to average fighters, I guess it all makes sense now.
I am excited for this fight
I am going for Angulo mostly because I like him better as a person. I think Perro stands a small chance against Canelo and there are a few things I feel work for Perro that I am seeing about Canelo and his team. I like the fact that Canelo is training in his garage for this fight and is too stubborn to add anything different to his camp after his fight with Mayweather went the way it did. I like the fact that Canelo's team had no Plan B or Plan C for Mayweather, it showed me how they react when things get tough in there. I like the fact that Canelo's brother is probably going to get his ass kicked by Sergio Thompson before Canelo has to get in the ring with Perro and he will have that on his mind. I liked that a 135 pound Jose Luis Cotto had Canelo badly rocked and I thought a smaller Alfonoso Gomez frustrated Canelo Alvarez when he put a percentage of the pressure on Canelo that Perro will be putting on him. I think Canelo is falling into his own hype and I really do think he has never fought a contender at the same level as Angulo. I have heard Gabriel Montoya report that Angulo is in excellent shape and I really enjoyed the way Angulo fought Lara, a fight that I gave him no chance at all to win a round so that shows me he is learning something from Virgil Hunter. I am praying we can really see that partnership pay off in the way the Maidana/Garcia partnership has in this fight.
He may take a decrease in pay but I do not think his career would be over. Golden Boy has been all about putting on exciting fights lately regardless of if you have a losing streak or not and they have a bunch of fighters coming off losses they can match him up with who can make entertaining fights. If he loses tonight he can still go up against guys like Soto Karass, Zab Judah, or rematch Josesito Lopez and Berto. All those fighters vs Ortiz can get marketed as a Showtime main even despite how many losses they have and people would get excited about it.
I really hope not. I always wanted to see Ortiz fight Khan. I thought it would make for a dramatic fight since they both have great offense and holes in their defense. It is too bad they are both in the Mayweather running.
The best heel in boxing!
I miss him, 24/7 and Faceoff was at its best with Margarito. Up until the handwrap scandal he was the most feared man in boxing. The hype around GGG right now was nothing compared to what Margarito was getting leading up to the Paul Williams fight and then when he beat Cotto it all came back! After the handwrap scandal he kind of embraced his roll as a villain and played a damn good one, way better than the Adrien Bronner character who is just a rip off of what Floyd already does better. Love him or hate him, he entertained in both defeat and legend! Here is a tribute to the man and the myth! www .youtube.com/watch?v=scTXvHREGIQ
I was a Garcia hater
I have rooted against Garcia since the Kendall Holt fight. I felt Angel was hyping someone up who was beating past their prime fighters and landed a lucky punch on Amir Khan. For the build up of the Matthysse fight, especially on fight week I found myself running home everyday looking for the newest Angel Garcia interviews to see what he had to say. I found myself actually liking this man and the belief he had in his son, even if that meant a ton of hilarious absurdities were coming out of his mouth. After he adjusted in the Matthysse fight I became a fan. Danny and Angel are the truth. They believe in eachother and they find a way to win at all costs. They have an incredible chemistry and it is something only they can have. I also believe that Danny should get more credit for his Judah win. That was a very motivated Zab Judah who showed up to fight Danny Garcia that night, when have you seen Zab turn it up in the final rounds of a fight he was losing? I kinda feel like a hater for taking so long to give Danny his dues.
Garcia has one more fight at 140
He will not fight Garcia, Petersen or Provo for any belt. Lets face it, Broner is going to end up fighting some nobody for the vacated belts Garcia had.
This guy was also crying when it was announced BHOP went to HBO to fight Kovalev. Showtime has not given fans one fight they wanted all year and then this guy is making a fuss like if he had big plans for the stacked roster Showtime had access to. Maybe I would sympathize with him if Showtime was taking full advantage of the talent they had and putting them in fights people wanted to see. Since Showtime gives us crap like Thurman vs Diaz, Garcia vs Salka, Berto vs Chambers, Peterson vs Santana, Santa Cruz vs Roman, Kid Chocolate vs everyone he has ever fought, I can't help but get excited when big fighters to jump ship. HBO seems to make better use of its talent.
