how can you not find this interesting? 2 of the smartest/best fighters from the last 25 years.
also note, hopkins started his career at a higher weight class.
If he has to lose 60-70 pounds he might get stopped, lol.
I just couldn't imagine the mental and physical pain Toney would have to go through of not eating double cheeseburgers for breakfast, etc. :lol1:
I wonder if hopkins will take it though. I found this quote that's interesting:
"I don’t care who steps up to the plate as long as they’re not a cruiserweight or heavyweight. I called out James Toney because I know James Toney is fat and I know James Toney is a guy who is not actually a full-blown heavyweight even though his skills could get past most heavyweights because we know what the division is now. The division is nobody. This is one of the only times when I wish had 50 pounds to play with so I could put it on myself and go up and dominate the heavyweight world.”

the 3 ko's were from punches roy didn't see.
and yes i reckon his chin was always bad...i remember in the 1st round of the ruiz fight, his legs went for a bit when ruiz caught him with a short right hand (same spot that green caught him)
SEE 4min 12 sec mark of clip:
wat fights have mayweather been "boring" in? the ones against bigger opponents that he couldnt really hurt. u guys dnt know a lot about the sport if u dont know that pbf is picking an opponent he can ko! this is not a tuneup but a skills exhibition and hype fest for the next mega money bout! if he doesnt ko jmm it will damage his chips at the table. get a fukin clue novices.
with respect...if boxing was as predictable as u make out...noone would be interested and i assume u'd be a multi millionare (from backing winner after winner).
JMM is not a soft touch for anyone.
JMM, is the best fighter Floyd would have faced (Oscar was past his prime when they fought to a SD)...and that's coming off a long layoff.
Size isn't an issue in this fight.
It will be very very close.
I just hope he remembers to get the opponent and jab him to the chest.
just as long as he remembers that the most important man in the ring aside from himself and the other fighter is the referee.
I always thought that Hopkins would win this fight at any point in their careers. Toney has always struggled with fighters with technical boxing ability even though he had a lot in abundance himself. Examples are McCallum, RJJ, and Nunn. Hopkins has a really similar style to the Body Snatcher mixed in with his spoiling tactics.
agree...i like them both equally, but for the reasons u point out...and that b-hop prepares so well, i go with b-hop by ud. no chance bhop could ko toney.
there was absolutely nothing wrong with his conditioning.
not a body building competition, and he needed the weight to stand up to the punches he was catching.
yeah. I think Kellerman was borderline offensive. And not because I'm a Mayweather fan- if it were for any boxer, his conduct was worthless. He's a failed white rapper and extremely annoying, but that was never a reason to hate him- but yes, he seems to have forgotten the name on the tickets and the marquee was MAYWEATHER not KELLERMAN. Did he consider that the people who paid their hard-earned $50 might want to hear what the champ had to say?
Whats sad is that it was a until-now, unseen facet of Floyd's personality.. to say; "I can get better".. then be pulled into Kellerman's instigation..ugh.
When Floyd took the mic, anyone in television would have thought; ok, this could translate to more publicity. Instead, Kellerman, like a spoiled little kid, decides HE (!) wont let Floyd have the last word, and nervously gets Jim Lampley back to cut Floyd off- offensive.
Next, Kellerman really proved why he needs a slap, or at least a reminder that he has an unwarranted sense of self-importance. He somehow implies that Floyd is obligated to him in a sense because hes "always been appreciative", as if his job wasn't to be fair and unbiased whether he appreciates a boxer or not? To say that Floyd "didn't do himself any favors" was laughable and anger inducing. Yes, because Max F**king Kellerman is such an influencial figure in professional boxing. It was the first time I really thought some sort of punishment needed to be shown to a commentator. Offensive.
i reckon "judetheobscure" shows a maturity beyond his years.
well done!
mostly single shots.
very few combos..which would have been good to see....but marquez was always attempting to counter, so that didn't allow floyd to really sit down and throw combos without the chance of being caught by return fire.
with the exception of a couple of grazing right hands frommarquez...it was defensively a flawless performance by floyd.
too big, too strong, too good.
IDK, I just dont know if Floyd can beat a big skillful guy fighting that way or it will most likely be close. I thought he would get back to more combos but I guess not. Not even combos so much but just letting his hands go more but he's not. You could say that against Mosley he would have an even less output because of the size & power coming from Mosley but maybe it will be cancled out by the fact that Shane would be much more aggressive than Juan which would give Floyd more chances to counter. I cant tell without seeing it
marquez stood in front of floyd all night.
Roy just caught a lucky punch, i mean who could've thought that Tarver would KTFO Roy in
2 rounds
Yes i belirve that after that he lost his confidence, not the same superspeed RJJ of the old
agree 100%
Chris Byrd did some fights on BDSSP, he was good.
James Toney from a few years ago would have been my pick..he's not as easy to understand anymore. If you watched the riddick Bowe Vs Billy Zumbrum fight were James did color, it was hillarious.
the version of toney (168lbs) that beat iran barkley vs the version of hopkins (160lbs) that beat tito.
say at 164lbs.
that would be AWESOME...i call a draw
