so many biased morons on this site. ortiz blatantly headbutts mayweather and then somehow gets praised for being a good sport. mayweather takes revenge for the headbutt with a cheap shot and he's the devil. anyone notice how ortiz wasn't pissed in the slightest??? that's because he knew that he got what he deserved. yes floyd should have been the bigger man, and yes it was a cheap shot, BUT it was 100% fair given the headbutt from ortiz. so what if ortiz apologised and tried to hug mayweather??? he still blatantly headbutted him, AND then tried to say that it was accidental. ortiz is the one who should be getting criticised here...
jimmy mclarnin started at 112, ended up destroying fighters at 147.
roberto duran started at 118, ko/tko'd boxers from 126,130,135,147,154,160, & as high as 168.
billy conn started at what 135, ko/tko'd boxers at 147,160,175, all the way up to heavyweight. went 8 rounds with joe louis.
ray robinson started at 126 & 135 as a golden glover, ended up being the greatest welterweight & middleweight of all time. would have won at 175 if not for the heat.
hector macho camacho started at 130. tko/kos at 135,140,147,154, all the way up to 160.
georges carpentier started at 112, tko/kos all the way up to heavyweight.
He fought in the 20s.
I can keep on going. the list is endless.
Pac's power surge is not really a increase but a short ****e statistically based on his opponents. david diaz was kod. hatton ran into a perfect shot, cotto lasted 12 rnds until the tko & clottte went 12. oscar quit on the stool.
The flomos want to tear down pacquiao's wins because the opponents were crap yet when they want to play the steroid card they act as if pac was chopping down george chuvalo or something.
double standards & hypocrisy.
plus his speed has decreased. pac was so much faster as a featherweight than a welterweight.
you've totally misinterpreted the whole point of the thread. your list has nothing to do with KO RATIO. of course boxers are gonna move up in weight and still stop people. but do they actually have a higher ko ratio like pacman has? why all the flomo talk? it's so childish. if what this article i was reading has it right, then this is a huge compliment to pacman because he has done something no-one else has before. you pacman fans are impossible though (not that floyd's fans arent equally impossible on this forum!). why are you so defensive? if pacman's ko ratio has increased, it doesnt mean he's on steroids, as many people have illustrated in this thread. why are u going on about flomos? this is potentially a great achievement by pacman but you're taking as an insult to him...
that is an interesting point. i recently went back and watched all of pacman's american fights and his technique has really improved. his right hand used to be really poor as has been well documented, but his body work has also improved immeasurably. in his early american fights be barely threw a body punch, but now he mixes it up really well to the head and body...
If you started boxing at 16 years old as a malnourished pre pubescent teen at 108 lbs, wouldn you think as you grow older you get stronger?
Why is this concept so difficult to understand?
Are you stronger physically as a 16 year old boy or as a 30 year old man?
As pac has grown up, he has improved his finances which means he can afford better food, equipment, training, trainers etc.
As pac has grown up as a boxer, his technique, confidence, intelligence, not help him become a better boxer?
I will be posting examples of boxers who have moved up in weight shortly....
What pacquiao is doing is NOTHING NEW AT ALL.
It has been done countless times in the history of boxing. You dont know about it because there was no nsb back then.
the concept is not difficult to understand. instead of coming into this thread with a defensive attitude, why not just post the examples of the fighters that you are talking about. for the last time, I AM NOT ACCUSING PACMAN OF ANYTHING... let's keep this nice and friendly please lol :)
He doesn't have a higher KO rate.
his KO rate at 135+ is only 60%.
5 fights 3 KO's.
that was the whole basis of the srticle i was reading lol. i'll try and remember where the artcile was and post it. the general point of it was that the reason for all this controvery was pacman moving through the weights and ko'ing more people as he moved up. if it's not true then fair enough i guess lol
Pac's power hasn't increased at all. He's at higher weights fighting slower guys who can't see his punches coming.
then by that logic, surely every quick fighter who moves up in weight will be successful, which certainly isnt the case...
this is all very informative and extremely interesting to read.
BUT... can anyone name someone other than pacman who has done what he has done? it's not a loaded question intended to implicate him in anything. it's just amazing if he's the only guy who has done it. clearly though, as many of you have pointed out, there are a lot of mitigating factors surrounding pacman's increased ko ratio. i get that it's not solely an issue of power...
mayweather and pacman both deserve praise and criticsm for what has happened over the last year. both have dominated their opponents, and both have prevented us seeing the greatest fight in boxing. however, it's nice to see an article that doesn't focus on that for a change. it's a shame everyone can't just get behind them both as the world's greatest fighters, but then i suppose we'd have nothing to discuss other than actual boxing :)
That wasn't Ricky Hatton, that was a Hatton look alike who's a good friend of Cotto's. Michael Buffer clowned on Ricky Hatton and called that guy to the stage and said it was Ricky Hatton, as a joke!
are you joking? that was definately ricky hatton, a very, very fat ricky hatton :)
why come back to face b-hop? if you're gonna come back then grab ya balls and fight chad dawson. if you need a tune up fight then fine, have one. but don't waste your loyal fans' time with this bullshit re-run that was boring the first time. no-one gives a shit about this match-up. are u gonna give rjj a re-match too?
i'm convinced that if joe made a serious comeback he would still be able to go with the best, so he should quit worrying about his 'zero' and fight someone who is relevant. this is all about money, and that sucks big time...
you've not understood the issue. why should boxers pay these pathetic sanctioning bodies 3% of the gate when they are so corrupt? a world title wouldnt add a thing to this bout. if all the world champions said "screw you!" to the sanctioning bodies, boxing wouldnt be in such a mess right now. that shit like sulaiman is tryin to pull with devon alexander wouldnt have happened the other day that's for sure.
why do mayweather and pacman fans have to turn every single little thing that happens against the opposing fighter? it's seriously pathetic, and if you stopped to think for a minute, the stance that floyd is taking here is potentially a great step for boxing if others follow suit. just like the drug testing if we're being impartial...
i think people score de la hoya vs mayweather far too close generally speaking. oscar did a lot of fancy looking body punching that was hitting floyd's arms. i had floyd by a clear 4 points...
calzaghe would have made froch look silly imo. he's got the mouth and promotional abilities of an elite fighter, but the cobra just doesnt have the speed to deal with elite fighters. he's fortunate to be in such a weak division...
aren't froch and kessler good friends in real life? this could be why he was so gracious
does it matter? he lost his first fight and took it like a man...
tua is talking a lot of sense. why are u so hateful towards khan rabagiyo? i dont get why u are expending so much energy hating on an exciting young fighter. why not focus on fighters who you like?
bottom line is that khan/malignaggi is a much, much bigger fight than khan/maidana. why would khan duck maidana? where have u got the idea that khan is the type of fighter who avoids tough fights? remember that prescott was an unbeaten ko machine when he fought khan, and it was khan who chased the fight after being advised not to fight him. it just seems like u have an axe to grind with khan for some reason. is it because khan beat your fellow mexican barerra?
people in england dont have a clue who maidana is, whereas we do know who malignaggi is, so its also a much easier sell to the ppv audience in england. plus malignaggi knows how to sell a fight. it is also frustrating that you are running down malignaggi when the guy is a beautiful boxer. he has no power but he has an abundance of other skills and is a perfectly legitimate opponent for khan that makes far more sense than maidana at this moment in time.
and how is it khan's fault that golden boy wanted to pay khan more than marquez? your point doesnt make a blind bit of sense.
What the heck is going on? Not saying this because I'm a Kessler fan but the right man won, close or not. I don't understand how people could waist time typing stuff like this when Kessler clearly won.
can u not see that the OP's point is that there were a lot of close rounds that could have gone either way? people on these forums get so unreasonably touchy when their favourite fighter gets questioned. THAT is what i dont understand....
look at mosley's p4p ranking. mayweather cant do anything right these days in the eyes of crazed pacman fans. people hate for the sake of hating on these forums...
maidana fighting bradley is a bigger fight for maidana right? the truth is that khan/maidana NOT happening made sense for both fighters. you're making something out of nothing because you hate khan...
It wouldn't be beyond belief for someone to score this fight a draw. Many rounds were very close.
However IMO the right score was 116-112
i scored it a draw but im british, and therefore not entirely unbiased:)
froch has done himself no favours having his fights on that weird primetime channel. if he wanted fame and notoriety in england, he should have taken less money to get on sky, bbc or itv...
yea look at what marquez's rankings was. and that means what? great win!
lmao! come on dude, u must know what a dumb comparison that is. marquez was ranked 2 on the p4p list based on his fights at SUPER-FEATHERWEIGHT, but he fought mayweather at WELTERWEIGHT. mosley is ranked 3 (i think?) in the p4p rankings based on his accomplishments at WELTERWEIGHT and his fight with mayweather is taking place at WELTERWEIGHT. please tell me you understand the difference, because if you dont im just gonna have to accept that you are nothing but an unreasonable floyd hater. floyd deserves a lot of criticism for not facing top level competition in recent years, but he desreves credit for stepping up and facing mosley. if he also faces pacman in the next year or so, everyone needs to stop all this "floyd ducks everyone" talk...
says u. u think the government cares what joe schmoe from boxingscene says???not really...after 9/11, they dnt take any chances. ive seen ppl with regular last names get wait listed for months just because of the places theyve traveled to.
and u think that's right? it's all for show dude. the truth is that the US (and UK) governments allowed its airlines to run at far too low a security level for decades, and now they are badly over-compensating. sure, the airline security proceedures needed an overhaul, but this list business is a joke. it is a showy way for the US government to look like they are running a tight ship. they can run a tight ship without detaining or rejecting innocent people because of their last name...
He could have been strapped with a bomb.
lol, and u seriously think that's the point here? why the **** was a three year old boy on a terror list in the first place? and why would anyone think amir khan was a terrorist? have people in the US seen his dad at his fights? he is the proudest brit in the building lol, even wears a union jack suit ffs. amir has also been vocally patriotic. they are extremely westernised people and dont deserve this ridiculous scrutiny when it is so obviously bullshit. this whole situation is very silly...
