Calzaghe considers comeback

Golden Boy Promotions chief Richard Schaefer says Joe Calzaghe is considering a comeback to boxing to fight Bernard Hopkins again. The Welshman retired in February 2009 with an undefeated 46-fight record behind him, but there has been talk of him returning to the ring. Calzaghe beat Hopkins courtesy of a split decision at light heavyweight in his penultimate fight, but it was far from a satisfactory performance. The former undisputed super middleweight king has had his personal problems since retiring, and it is now thought one final big pay-day in the ring would ease some of those worries. Calzaghe's final fight was an impressive dismantling of Roy Jones Jr in 2008, but both he and Hopkins are said to be keen on a rematch. "Joe has expressed interest and so has Bernard," said Schaefer in the Daily Mail. "We will try to make it happen in the autumn." Veteran Hopkins has continued to fight in Calzaghe's absence, with unanimous points decisions against Enrique Ornelas and Jones Jnr, just last month, his last two fights.
