lol What!? The Russians are just big, and they're in divisions where there's no real good big guys. They aren't even on Cuba's radar man...
LOL, yeah right. Its been said over and over again, the heavyweight champion of the world has always been considered the toughest man on the planet not a bunch shrimps fighting at these lower weights. The Eastern block owns the entire heavyweight division, Cuba will never ever be able to even compete.
The Cubans might be able able to do well in those lower divisions fighting those fighters that look like they are anorexic, crack heads, or super models, but will never compete in divisions with normal sized human beings.
You can compare UFC/Boxing in several ways.
PPV buys-edge goes to UFC
Fight gates-Edge slightly to boxing because it still has the ability to do bigger gates for mega fights. But on average still does less gate than the average UFC show.
Merchandising-UFC undisputed video game is outselling Fight Night pretty badly so UFC has the edge. But other than that boxing really does little merchandising like the UFC with its shirts, DVD's, toys, etc.
Fighter purses-Boxing has the edge, though UFC is improving, but boxing's still ahead.
Ratings-Is a wash because the best boxing's on HBO where only about 30 million Americans homes have access, and the UFC is on ****e TV with 98 million available homes.
wow. 1 mil buys is alot, ufc get alot of ppv buyrates! TBH i can't see mayweather/marquez getting that, but i do see cotto pacman doing it!
I think PBF/JMM will do between 400,000-500,000. I think Pac/Cotto will do about 850,000.
Why boxing fans seem to hate the UFC is a mystery to me, why do boxing fans have loyalty to boxing promoters that try to squeeze even single dime out your pocket? The bigger the UFC gets the more boxing promoters will actually have to step their game up, no more resting on their laurels.
The UFC isn't the reason boxings struggling, boxings been struggling for years. At one time boxing was on par with baseball as the most popular sport in America, now it may not even be in the top 8. It will continue this way till they fix their problems, the problems that has plagued it for decades. Start giving us better cards and stop putting all the big fights on HBO or PPV or else boxing will never be anything but a niche sport.
Nothing wrong with hbo at all. Also 3-4 ppv a year aint bad. As long as they don't have weak fighters like jc jr on ppv when he should be on fnf
Most of the general public doesn't have HBO, and thats where the top stars fight. Hows the public supposed to get into boxing if they can't watch the top fighters?
UFC never releases their PPV numbers, where did you get the 1.5 million number? If that's true, I'd say Brock-Fedor could do at least 2 million. It would threaten the boxing records...but then again, maybe Fedor isn't high-profile enough to bring in 500k+ new buys. Plus, there will be bigger parties for this one, lol.
Dave Meltzer usually releases the number within weeks. Hes the authority on PPV buyrates.
lets see UFC put their biggest stars against Cotto-Pacquiao.
The funny thing about this UFC crap is that, they have a PPV every month and they put every big star in it if they can.
When Boxing only puts a good headline fight and teh rest are fairly unknown fighter.
Let boxing Put, Hatton, Pacquiao, Cotto and Floyd on the same card and see what UFC have on boxing
Fedor Vs Brock would beat Cotto Vs Pac as well.
Its a great card, I'm definitely getting it. I'm a fan of both and don't understand the rivalry between fan of both sports. Competition is good people, we all benefit when promoters fight for our money.
Does anybody even know the undercard of UFC 103??!!!!! I'm not writing Marquez off yet! It'll be a sad day for our sport when UFC sells more than 2 of our biggest draws.....................
No its not., UFC is very popular, theres no shame in losing to them.
I like boxing and the UFC, but I do think that they are competing against each other. There are a lot of fans out there that enjoy both, but ordering PPV's from both isn't possible cause it can be very pricey for most fans. So most fans of both sports have to make a choice where they will spend the money between the two. I'll admit most of my money has been going to UFC PPV's because I feel I'm getting better value.
In the end though I agree this competition is good thing for boxing, I have no idea why some boxing fans seem so against it. Competition leads to a better product, let boxing and UFC fight for the fans loyalty. I see so many fans constantly complaining about promoters setting up bogus matches, shitty under cards, over priced PPV's, ect. But when there is an organization that comes around and challenges the monopoly and corruption of those running boxing everyone gets protective of boxing. How do you think all the crap in boxings gonna change? You think promoters are just gonna wake up one day and decide to stop ****ing over the boxing consumer? No, its gonna take competition for once boxings actually got it.
I like the way UFC pays its fighters, huge pay days have been ruining boxing for years. The UFC pays fighters a percentage of the buyrate they draw, so if you draw you'll get paid and if you don't you won't.
Also they have incentives to finish and have exciting fights. They have bonuses for fight of the night, KO of the night, and submission of the night.

UFC is more popular than boxing, what? :fu2:

That was good but this is the best one. Some tough guy tries to intimidate a skater with a gun and then get fcked up.

Is the 50/50 split for all events or just boxing?
Does this seem like BS to anyone else. The cable companies getting half the profits just because they have a monoply on PPV?
Those mother****ers are rock stupid if they think manny's fight with floyd is going to be any more entertaining
if they don't want to see boxing they shouldn't go to a boxing match
you want to watch you meatheads swinging wildly at each other and somebody being knocked unconscious and hurt go to a bar or a car wreck
those people booing last night all wasted hundreds of dollars on their tickets
**** them
Don't you think people who spend hundreds of dollars on a ticket have the right to boo if fighters don't deliver.
