Dana White talks about battling Mayweather's PPV on 9/19

im a fan of dana white and the UFC. but a bigger boxing fan and mayweather fan. but thought i would mention how, the last time UFC shared a ddate with mayweather. it was actually quite funny, i was watching dana whites video blog. and it shows how they sit up close n watch the fights from the monitors. the date of hatton - mayweather, the same day as a ufc event. i literally saw all their monitors had on the boxing ppv. and dana white, lorenzo, matt hughes, tons of people were crowded around the monitors not even watching the live ufc event. what does that tell u there you have it :boxing:

White has a point....but at the same time it put to rest the Mayweather PPV was having money issues because they are going head-to-head again.

And more than half of the people who goto PBF/JMM and buy it on PPV will be Mexicans who love Marquez or people who hate Floyd. That's a stretch and it's too early to say. Tito is washed up, Thiago Silva was unwarranted hype and played right into Machida's style, and Rashad didn't stick to his gameplan. Shogun has unorthodox striking, good recovery from shots, high energy when he's in shape, sick bodylock and trip takedowns that are hard to telegraph and he is MUCH better on the ground than Machida. His BJJ is very slick. Wanderlei has also not been that same sadly since he was Ko'd by Cro Cop. It sucks. If it was anyone headlining a UFC PPV going 1-5 they'd have been cut, but Wanderlei brings guaranteed excitement and violence and that sells. LOL. That is true actually. That's ridiculous. UFC 100 is going to be ridiculous. GSP/Alves, Lensar/Mir, Bisping/Hendo, Akiyama, Fitch... No way in hell it's better than UFC 100 GSP-Alves is an easy fight for GSP. That's a stretch and it's too early to say. Machida arguably hasn't lost a round since coming into the UFC. Very few guys go undefeated in the UFC, but even fewer (zero) have arguably never lost a single round they've fought and we're talking about 7 fights he's participated in. That's a lot of rounds. Hardly anyone besides Fedor has been this dominant in MMA. The guy Machida defeated for the title, Rashad Evans, was one of the OTHER aforementioned undefeated fighters in the UFC, who won his first 10 fights in the UFC. Going 10-0 is also VERY RARE, even if he arguably lost to Tito, still, going 9-1 is nothing short of incredible for a guy whose frame is small for his own division.

So why didn't DLH do bigger PPV's without Floyd? I know it was a minimum of 70% De la Hoya but it's a fact his biggest ppv and the biggest ppv of all time had Mayweathers name up in lights. People are watching all kinds of events, even run-of-the-mill football games, movies, adult movies whatever on PPV in 2007,2008,2009. Part of it is DLH and Mayweather, but part of it is the culture, the population, and the ease of information now. Twenty years ago, a lot of people didn't even consider that they could watch Mike Tyson in their own home. There wasn't satellite TV...you had to have the right cable carrier, and often had to rent something to rig your cable box to watch...and the whole idea of paying for a fight was a bigger deal than now when everything is PPV - not to mention a lot of people only had one TV in their house and didn't even have cable. Lots more potential buys now. Keep in mind the PPV price for those fights back then in adjusted money is more than PPV fights are sold for now as well And it's as easy as clicking a button on your remote to watch the event. Lots of things to consider when you crown Mayweather the PPV king based on a fight where all things weren't equal compared to closed-circuit TV back in the day or early PPV. We're now conditioned to know we can watch any event any time, and it's not too far from the truth. But make things equal and De La Hoya has bigger PPVs than Mayweather It's like calling the Transformers sequel or The Dark Knight one of the biggest hits ever...then realize that the budget for the film was unheard of years ago, foreign box office was different before, number of screens was much much less and ticket prices were a small fraction as well...when you do that these new blockbusters still don't touch a Gone With the Wind... DLH-Mayweather happened at a convenient time to draw those numbers, but keep in mind the level of event it was, was in no way close to the "top show of all-time"
