Hey man, first thank you for responding. Ur right that Vegas is the best venue in boxing, but I think that PBF was way wrong when he said on ESPN, that Cotto doesn't put up numbers. Cotto can put very good numbers, and bring more than enough money for Floyd. Trinidad did many times and right now Cotto is just as recognized as Tito was back then. I don't think PBF is running from Cotto, because PBF has always fought the best. But being realistic, Cotto represents the biggest challenge for PBF at any point in his career and he knows it. PBF knows that there is a lot to lose by facing Cotto. Anyway, take care and keep making good points, we may not agree on all but they are very good.

Hey man. Sorry that you are getting hit from every angle in this thread. I'm answering to the first part of your post. Both me and you know, that there is not many people out there that can beat Mayweather, but we also know that at WW the guy to beat is Cotto. Now I completely agree with you in that, PBF doesn't have to prove anything in boxing to anyone. But at WW, Cotto is the guy, Mayweather's career numbers or Hall of Fame numbers were at lower weight classes. Nonetheless, he doesn't have to prove a thing to anyone. Now if it's all about money, why doesn't he fight Cotto in Puerto Rico. Cotto is a hero there and the venue should produce great numbers and big money for Money. I don't think it's a smart pick for Mayweather to fight Cotto, anywhere. Cotto can definitely beat Mayweather in my opinion, but we will never know. I don't agree w/ u in Cotto's stock going down by beating Mosley at his own game. Cotto's speed and jab really impressed me on that fight. Anyway, take care.

I only had one day to write the article so I know its nothing great. I would have liked to habe gone into deeper details about things. much props to sugar shane.....stood his ground to a young lion and in the championship rounds dug deep and was all balls to the walls.....what a fight.......cotto is a wrecking machine......with this win he def is a p4p entrant.....his next fight is either oscar or floyd......all this talk about margarito come on fellas....he just beat a very old veteran and now people are back to him being the most feared fighter of all time....last time i checked he lost the last title fight he was in....anyways i would love for top rank to make the cotto-margarito just to shut many of u margo lovers....his shots are too wide and cotto will brake him down straight down the middle....guarantee!! Hey margarito is probably the most dangerous fighter in the division, for anyone, and that includes Mayweather and Cotto. PART 1 For all the people who think that Cotto, Margarito, Williams, and so on will beat Floyd, why do you believe that? Im basically asking because Im wondering do you guys really think they are better fighters then Floyd or do you think they will win strictly because they are too big for Floyd and he isnt a real WW while they are huge WW's? Floyd had 1 fight there and beat a very good guy in Oscar but he knows he would have alot of trouble against those big guys if he fought there all the time. At 147, Floyd fights there but he clearly isnt a WW at all while mostly all the other top guys are all big jr. MW's that kill themselves to make weight every fight. Thats why all of them want to fight Floyd. There's no way they would be jumping at a fight with him if he was there size but they know that he's so small that he cant hurt them, they will outweigh him by a ton in the ring, they know he wont fully be at his best because of the size advantage, they know they will get there biggest pay day and a chance to knock off the #1 guy in the sport. That's kind of dumb to say Shane was hugging. He held on the inside. And why not? Why would you let Cotto batter you to the body. He was already landing heavy shots to the body. Shane was just trying to take some of it away from Cotto. That's not dumb at all. And it wasn't like Shane wasn't coming forward and not staying in range. With that said I think Cotto took the middle rounds. But the last 3-4 he landed a few good shots going backward but not enough to win those rounds decisively. The fact is Shane had the opportunity to blitz Cotto and put him away when something was obviously wrong with Cotto in round 9 I think ( I could be wrong). Cotto won a close one. I would have done the same thing it was good strategy to prevent getting batter down, my point was that a lot of people were commenting that Cotto had an ugly fight because he was hugging. The one hugging was Mosley, but to me was smart hugging. I also think Cotto fought a great fight and knew what he wanted to do all along. He also did great good to his career and health by running in the 12th like he did, nothing wrong with that. About the 9th round you are right, I also believe there was something wrong with Cotto and even on the 10th he was having trouble. Mosley also looked very frustrated rounds 4-6. Great fight.

I just finished the whole thing. I kept everything in mind favoring Cotto. The 10th and 12th HAD to be Mosley. The 11th was very close, but I give that 5% extra to Mosley. When I score this with the guy coming forward I give the 2nd and the 8th to Cotto and the 11th to Mosley. This were the toughest rounds to score. I had it: Cotto 1,2,4,5,6,8 Mosley 3,7,9,10,11,12 A DRAW. If you give the 2nd, 8th, and 11th to either guy, either wins. Depending. The crowd and the commentators were very distracting. The HBO team was wrong about Cotto, and wrong about Mosley at different points. And as some members have already stated; the crowd was RIDICULOUS. They were hyping every Cotto punch thrown. But that's to be expected. My friend I watched again and I had it like this: Cotto 1,2,4,5,6,8,11 Mosley 3,7,9,10 The 12th was either guy round. I don't think Cotto ran as much as I thought at first, he moved, but really startes running with 1:05 or so of the 12th. Mosley did not do anything in the 12th either to deserve the round hands down. I liked the fight so much that I'll see it again, and it may change my mind again.

To give this the worst case scenario treatment I also gave the 2nd and 8th rounds to Cotto, but those could have easily been Mosley rounds. I think Cotto did that 5% more to snatch em though. I don't think Cotto has faces anyone like Mayweather. Maybe Mosley in terms of speed. But let's not fool ourselves, Mayweather hasn't faced anyone with Cotto's characteristics. PBF may win, but it's not going to run circles around Cotto as many of us thought before the Mosley fight. And to me PBF, can lose, especially with no power. We all know his power is not even close to Mosley's and Mosley got amazing power shots on Cotto and he shook them of very well. Me? I'm taking Cotto by KO on the 10th. Out of all the names in the division, Williams doesn't possess the tools to beat Cotto. About Cotto's jab, we didn't even know he's jab was so good. And know we talked about it as his strength? Williams' height nullfies Cotto's jab. He would be moving inside, chin exposed, trying to get to the leaner Williams' body. That is where it gets for Cotto. Cotto is still very vulnerable to the uppercut. Paul Williams throws them liberally, and from many angles, with precise aim. Williams' punches don't look like much as far as power is concerned, but when he gets set, he can change a guy's viewpoint fast. His awkward, yet extremely effective, offense makes it difficult to see many of the punches coming at you. Williams would probably fight Cotto similarly to how he fought Margarito, only being less hesitant to sit down on his punches, because he knows that he can hurt Cotto much easier. The accumulation of Williams' constantly active, aggressive assault, would gradually break Cotto down. Williams by late TKO

Shane made it a close fight and he had his moments but to me he definitely looked his age. If Shane was 7 years younger he would have beaten Cotto no doubt. truth is when shane was 29, Cotto was 20 and I believe was coming back from a career threatening car accident. It is not fair to compare times, because even as good as Mosley was, right now Cotto is bigger and stronger than that Mosley at 135. I think it is what it is, Cotto beat a 36 yr old Mosley, and we can wonder and speculate, but will never know.

When I think of ruthless conclusions, I always think of Ray Robinson at middleweight. The way he waxed off Randy Turpin in the rematch and how he ended Jake Lamotta's reign in the St. Valentine's Day Massace, those were classic and finalizing endings put on two very tough guys. Robinson pinned them to the ropes and landed unanswered blows like it was a liquidation sale on pain. Joe Louis' revenge against Max Schmelling was also punishing. Schmelling was screaming in pain from a kidney punch and seemed to rock back from every punch. Mike Tyson had some excellent finishes, but I'd say the Pinklon Thomas one was pretty bad. It's hard to really narrow down one guy who stood up to sustained punishment from Tyson, though. Pacquiao is a highlight reel of finishes. The way he got Morales in the third fight was good, but I like the way he pursued Jorge Julio en route to the stoppage. Julio Cesar Chavez's finishing flurry against Edwin Rosario was nice. That is the perfect way to finish a guy, head and body. Aaron Pryor might take the cake with the way he dusted off Arguello in the first fight. It's hard to narrow down a more devastating sustained flurry than the one that happened in the 14th round. Michael Carvajal fights were incredibly bloody and crazy. But, I have to go with McClellan vs. Jackson in the early 90's.

And as far as Williams now...he shouldn't even be mentioned in the circle of WW after Quintana exposed him. They have proven more than enough. Floyd is probably just waiting until Cotto starts having trouble making 147. Once Cotto shows signs of draining himself to make weight Mayweather will take the fight. Could be. But, I don't think PBF should take that fight. As much of a boxing fan as I'm (and from PR), it is not a good fight for Mayweather, especially because he has nothing to prove in boxing and already is a future Hall of Famer. I think he is ducking a Cotto fight, because is the smart move at this point of his career and he can get away with it in the American market. Neither him or Cotto need each other, both of them have accomplished more than enough in boxing. Anyway, are Americans really going to give Cotto credit if he beats PBF? Common, Paul Williams was given more credit than Cotto, and rank higher in America, without having to prove his worth, simply because he was tall and American. But this is another topic.

To answer the bold you can't give credit to shit that ain't going to happen. Meaning Cotto ain't going to beat PBF because Cotto is not better than PBF. I have no doubt in my mind that when they fight PBF will win and it won't be a tough fight. Personally, I would like Cotto to win. It's hard for me to go against him, but we won't really know what's going to happen until fight night. But Cotto should definitely get credit for his career, because it has been a good one and by far better than the one of Paul Williams (who was thought of as the #1 contender at WW over Cotto) and very close to the one of PBF. Anyone that bypassed Cotto and pick any other fighter as the #1 contender, obviously didn't give him credit for his career.
