Who do you guys think is the best defensive fighter?
I cant think of anyone being better than Henry Armstrong although Pernel Whitaker might be there with him.
Well here you see floyd vs baldomir, he parrys punches, uses footwork to evade punches, uses his arms, slips etc.
Every form of defence, also notice his small steps constantly shifting distance, baldomir never got set.
Do you see 36 year old, coked out Floyd Mayweather going the distance with prime Felix Trinidad?
You were pointing out that Floyd barely gets hit flush and I posted a few vid's where he gets hit.
Remember Floyd's career isn't even over yet. Most defensive fighters only lost in their late 30's.
See the difference here is, Floyd's career is almost over.
He has little more to prove. And there's no sense in me trying to dispute the fact that it's possible for him to get hit clean.
lol but he gets hit clean less than anyone I've ever seen fight. And that includes Roy Jones Jr who was extremely elusive in his prime............however nowhere near as skilled defensively.
You can post clips of him lapsing and getting hit when he goes into the 1 and done punching shell and rides the bike........but in a theoretical sense it's hard to point to one single fighter being better..........defensively.
He's rarely hurt, and puts on exhibitions blocking punches and making fighters look one dimmensional when they're not.

to me best defensive fighter ,has to be the most illusive fighter
Hopkins is very good defensively but i would'nt say he is hard to hit ,im not saying he has a Gatti like defence or anything like that BTW
Winky does'nt really take punishment but u can out work him in that stance i suppose ,cause even if u hit his gloves u are active & he is'nt while he is covering up ,although i agree there is a lot more to beating Winky than out working the mother fucka
Ray Leonard was awsome at slipping shots but Sugar Ray had to use a lot of Movement to be illusive as did Pernell Whitaker IMO that is why i think Floyd Takes it cause he does'nt have to use lateral movement to be illusive etc
i cant remeber a fighter who is as good in the pocket as Floyd Mayweather is ,maybe Whitaker but i stil think Floyd is better
There is alot of candidates.
James Toney, Winky Wright, Floyd Mayweather, Bernard Hopkins, Pernell.
Willie Pep - if you can win a round without throwing a punch, power to you.
I'd say right now it's Mayweather. All of the guys mentioned above got dropped in their careers other them Mayweather. He survived all kinds of styles and still never got seriously knocked down.
Zab Judah dropped Mayweather once..
as far as balance, elusiveness, great timing with blocking, great counterpunvhing, and speed with ducking and dodging, mayweather jr is the best i've seen ever. amazing posture and the way he blocked punches puts him ahead of the rest imo. his flexiblity was flawless and his tempered pace could control a fight whether he was defensive the who round or offensive, that's how good his defense is/was. his upperbody movement like how he angled his body was superb, i have never seen a fighter move his upperbody with as much accurate timing as much as floyd with the exception of james toney. when you have a fighter who can counterpunch off of the block whether in the pocket or on the ropes or moving, you have a complete defensive artist to me, and when you have a fighter who can adjust his defensive positioning and speed to different styles like handspeed, pressure and more, you've done it for me also, and floyd has all of these attributes, he is the most complete fighter of his time as far as technical brilliance goes. he's the top guy imo.
i also love whitaker's ducking ability because he was damn near impossible to hit, sich a great defensive artist
benitez is another great ducker but his timing puts him up to me because he knew how to make you miss at the last second and that's a risky kind of defense but he made it so effective in his fights, just amazing man.
pep was a tremendous mover, not much of a blcoker but moved very well and counterpunched even better imo when he chose to. he mobilization puts him in the top 3 defensive movers ever imo.
camacho is amongst the greatest becasue he made you miss bad and was fast as shit with his head movement, it was just explosive the way he made people miss, good rhythm and entuiveness in the ring.
roy jones has to be up there because his amazing head movement and how he could go from the defense to the offense very fast, like a myweather jr, these two took defense to a whole new level, roy was just too good for his own good.
james toney had the best defensive posture along with floyd imo, and he counterpunched better than majority fighters in history imo. he is up there in the top 5 for me as far as overall defense along with mayweather jr, whitaker, benitez abd pep. he was just too good for his own good in his prime as far as defense goes. he made you look really stupid and miss like crazy. his spontenaity was damn near flawless, he had amazing intuition in the ring. he just knew defense and used the should roll to an extent also like floyd, but toney imo was a better as far as poised mover than the rest, his eyes were his strongest weapons in his defense, and his upperbody movement no matter how bad his body looked and how fat he looked and sloppy physically, this man knew how to move his upperbody extremely well and has amazing stamina for his body type. he was the truth in his prime.
so my list goes like this
mayweather jr
whitaker
toney
binetez
pep
those are my top 5.
Floyd Mayweather IMO he is the only one who ive seen who does'nt have to angauge his oponent when he chooses not too ,he can work at his own pace most of the time if he gets tired he can make u miss for a couple of rounds then go to work & come in strong towards the end
Yeah, El Radar's story is very sad.
Agreed, very sad turnout but still has to be considered on the to, because back then, no hand picking opponents and more rounds were fought. It's hard to hear some of the other names that were mentioned here as the top defensive fighters. But opinions are like asses, everyone's got one.
It's a damn fight, lol. Of course people can be hit.
Taking obscure lapses in defense that rarely..........and I mean rarely occur on Floyd's part and using that as a counterbalance against stating he's the best defensive fighter...........is retarded.
Because for every fighter you say is greater, you can point to times WHERE THEY WERE BEAT DOWN AND KNOCKED OUT.
Floyd has never been stopped or even close to it.

Hating? No, I was simply pointing out that Mayweather CAN be hit.
Not everyone says he is the BEST defensive fighter they've ever seen. One of the best but not the BEST. How can you say he is the best when you haven't seen all of the best?

lol dude. Those are three fights.
That's the best example of hating on someone I've ever seen. Everyone else who has watched him fight throughout his career knows he's maybe the best defensive fighter they've ever seen at some level.

Mayweather vs Judah
Mayweather vs Castillo
Mayweather vs De La Hoya
Floyd isn't impossible to hit but very hard obviously. I'm not sure if I would call him the best defensive artist to be honest, it's not easy to say who is the best.
He deserves a mention among the best defensive fighters though.
