"You're going to have Miguel Cotto for a long time."
Those were the words of the ever-popular WBA welterweight title-holder this morning after his 12-round unanimous decision win over former champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
"My jab was the difference in this fight," Cotto, 31-0, 25 KO's, said at the post-fight press conference. "I felt pretty comfortable after the sixth or seventh round. He reached me with some right hands but I felt pretty good the whole fight."
"I'm ready for anyone," he said.
"The fight was a great fight," Mosley, 44-5, 37 KO's said after a delayed entry into the press conference. Regarding his future in the sport the 36-year old Mosley said he wasn't sure. "I have to watch the film to see what I looked like to determine if I should hang them up or keep them on," he said.
One option for Mosley could be a fight with Antonio Margarito. Margarito, 35-5, 25 KO's, demolished the well-worn Golden Johnson on the under card and appeared eager to get right back into the mix in the welterweight division. "This is the Antonio Margarito you're going to be seeing from now on," he said. "I believe the fans want to see Cotto against Margarito next. The fight I'm looking for is Cotto."
Cotto however, didn't seem too interested.
"He had his chance," Cotto said. "He could've fought me tonight. He could've fought me in June. He decided to fight Paul Williams, now he has to wait his turn."
If a Cotto-Margarito bout can't come to fruition there are still a number of attractive fights for both men. "The combinations are endless," said Cotto promoter Bob Arum.
"When ever you have such a great fight (like Cotto-Mosley) you don't have a loser," said Oscar de la Hoya who promoted the fight with Arum. "These are the types of fights boxing deserves."
A replay of the fight will air next week on HBO at 9:45 PM ET.
Attendance for the card was 17,135.

Cotto is answering questions about opponents now.
And your point is?
Like to see wither that offer would still be open after Dec 8th. Cotto would be welcomed in England with open arms if he came here to fight Hatton.

much props to sugar shane.....stood his ground to a young lion and in the championship rounds dug deep and was all balls to the walls.....what a fight.......cotto is a wrecking machine......with this win he def is a p4p entrant.....his next fight is either oscar or floyd......all this talk about margarito come on fellas....he just beat a very old veteran and now people are back to him being the most feared fighter of all time....last time i checked he lost the last title fight he was in....anyways i would love for top rank to make the cotto-margarito just to shut many of u margo lovers....his shots are too wide and cotto will brake him down straight down the middle....guarantee!!
Margarito has great tools and can be really dangerous, and he is a big WW. I'm not saying that he will beat Cotto, but has the tools to do it.
............As long as it's at the Madison Square Garden.
bring somebody who could sell a coliseum is oscar and floyd (vegas) cotto has sold alot in atlantic city.

I like Cotto, he fights hard. I've seen so many fights with him where he got hurt but always managed to win the end...he knows how to overcome adversity. And thats a great thing to have in boxing ecspecially, but also in everyday life.
Does this look like the order of the list?
1. Winner of Mayweather/Hatton
2. Oscar De La Hoya
3. Loser of Mayweather/Hatton
4. Antonio Margarito
5. Paul Williams
6. Sugar Shane Mosley
Am I Missing anyone or does this look solid?
Looks good, but Kermit Cintron is going to enter the equation once he beats Paul Williams, especially if he scores another impressive knockout. If Delahoya shows any interest thats where he goes because of the money.
Everyone EXCEPT Margarito, maybe he didn't like what he saw in the undercard fight.
Hey margarito is probably the most dangerous fighter in the division, for anyone, and that includes Mayweather and Cotto. If I was Cotto, I'll go after Mayweather because in my opinion if anyone has or had a chance to beat Cotto was Mosley or Margarito. I don't think PBF will be able to stand in front of Cotto and dodge punches all night. Margarito maybe too dangerous to take a chance.
I have tyo say shane is a class act even do he lost he was not making nay excuses.
I agree great guy, a definite class act. Also Cotto, both great guys, great warriors and entertainers.
everyone is criticizing Cotto's 12th, but I thought that round showed that he can move and frustrate fighters too in addition to bully them. (Not that he bullied Sugar Shane)
I have tyo say shane is a class act even do he lost he was not making nay excuses.
I agree i think shane knew he lost and was all class. We need more mosely's in boxing.
When i first heard Cotto was fighting Mosley i thought Cotto had bitten of more than he could chew but when Mosley stated he would stand with Cotto i radically changed my mind, Cotto is a recking machine in every sense of the word he reminds me of J C C havez he just builds up steam over the rounds breaks u down with relentless preassure & Body punching for anybody to stand and trade with him is a mistake IMO
i dont wanna keep banging on about it but those people who thought he was just a slugger/preassure fighter are either very short sighted biased or just aint seen that much of him, most knowledgable fans knew that he had that Boxing ability in his arsenal
