I've met quite a few but the main ones would be Ken Buchanan, Jim Watt & the main man himself Muhammad Ali :notworthy
If the 'Tyson world tour' really is a world tour I'd like to go & meet him as well if he comes to Britain.
Paul Ingle v Mbulelo Botile. Ingle got rocked early in the fight and it was obvious there was something wrong with him as he was an aggressive fighter but he was circling on the backfoot all night and was given a steady beating until Botile knocked him out in the 12th, Ingle was strechered out and lapsed into a coma with a blood clot on the brain, he is as well as can be expected & is still recovering I believe but I've still not watched past about the 3rd round of that fight.
Calzaghe: Lacy made for me!

CALZAGHE-LACY ON NOV. 5, IF JOE WINS SEPT 10
"I'm delighted that Lacy won and is still undefeated to set up our showdown in November in what will be real super-fight," said WBO super-middleweight king Joe Calzaghe. "That was probably Lacy's best performance yet and impressed me but it's hard to say how good Lacy is because Reid was so poor....I prefer fighters who come forward throwing big punches and Lacy's style is made for me. I'm a completely different fighter to Reid and I'm even more confident of Lacy now." Calzaghe's promoter Frank Warren has secured a showdown with IBF champ Jeff Lacy on November 5 in Britain but first Calzaghe must first defend his crown for a record 17th time on September 10 at the Cardiff International Arena against TBA. The card will also feature Amir Khan's second pro fight. Tickets are priced at £35, £50, £75 and £125.
I don't think Calzaghe's finished but he's defo gone stale fighting these ordinary opponents & I wonder who his opponent for the September bout will be?
Reid was quoted in the paper this morning saying that Calzaghe was alot quicker and stronger than Lacy and would beat him inside the distance.
Reid giving Calzaghe credit? what's goin on! Reid does seem like a real bad loser though so I don't know how much I'd read into that.
But the British champions are almost always English, very rarely ever Scottish or Welsh.
Like McKay said there's only about 5 milion people in Scotland compared to the 50 odd million you have down there so it only makes sense that England should have more British champs
Oh and anyone who dislikes someone simply because they're from Scotland, England etc is pretty stupid, you take people as you find them, a cunt is a cunt no matter where they're from ;)
Can't you watch it in a sports bar somewhere?, you don't need to spend a whole lot of money just have a couple of beers while watching the fight then go home ;)
Lets just hope the opponent isn't another Kebede cos the undercard is quality, as for Scott fighting Pacman, that along with Marquez are the two guys that Scott should avoid, he hates southpaws and don't forget Polo did deserve the decision in most people's eyes including mine, the unknown Walter Estrada gave him all sorts of bother before he collapsed out of nowhere and both of those guys aren't in Pacman's league for speed or power so Pacquiao would do a number on Scott as would Marquez imo, if someone stands and fights with Harrison he has a chance but in Pacman's case I could see Scott eating those straight lefts followed by the right combo that he throws all night. Chi would be his best bet as he was hurt and dropped against Suugama not long ago so he may be ready for the taking, in short keep him away from southpaws & counter punchers & he'll be fine :D
It was confirmed last night that the opponent will be Nedal Hussein 39-2. A decent choice his only losses came to Oscar Larios (Though widely on points) and Pacman by tko10 but I hear he gave Pacman a real tough fight though it was a weight below, Hussein has been weighing around the 130 mark recently so Harrison may not have the weight advantage he usually does when he gets in the ring. Anyone see the Hussein/Pacman fight? how'd it go?
Joan Guzman is more than just a satisfactory opponent for Scott IMO. But you have to remember that not all fans are hardcore boxing fans. If an average fan has never heard of his opponent before, then they'll probably think the opponent is shit.
Think of it as if you're watching a sport that you're not very familiar with and how would you go into judging the matchups.
I tell you what mate it's good to have a discussion with a Pac fan without all the stupidness, u make some good points :boxing:
Morales & Pacquiao are fighting so they're off limits until the middle of next year probably and the Marquez fight is the worst possible style match for Scott imo so I doubt his management will go for that, Guzman's a good fight if you ask me but if your talking champions personally i'd go for Chi (As I said I'm not a Harrison defender, I don't care about him being seen as no.1 cos I don't believe it's possible! just as long as he takes the fights if they're offered)
i hope its joan guzman so he can get rid of harrison for good.
harrison sucks, guzman will destroy him they need to put it on the undercard of lacy-pemberton on nov.5
I wouldn't exactly say he sucks, a bit limited sure but usually only with boxer/mover types, Guzman will fight him so it's a 50/50 fight (I like Guzman but he's not really proven at 126) and no way will it be Guzman for this defence, that's a big fight & won't happen until next year, Harrison is fighting in Scotland in November so it won't be on the Lacy card, Hussein was being mentioned a couple of weeks ago but i'm not sure now, we're supposed to hear who today but nothing yet.
so hussien's only losses came against pac and larios, which means he's a 122lb fighter moving up to fight the strongest guy in the division. don't see this going long. naz used to do the same thing, trying to look good against smaller men.
He's been fighting at 130 for a while I think
Pacman moved up from a much lower weight as well and no one would complain about that would they ;)
Agree about Pac, Marquez etc. but after the b.s. draw Harrison got at home against Polo I think the spotlight will be on the judges not to fuck about this time(I hope!)
I was at the Tyson/Savarese fight at Hampden football stadium, about 50/60,000 capacity but it was only half full at best and I was in the fucking bleachers, can you say binoculars?! luckily there was big screens and plenty of rowdy fuckers around me in a good way of course! so I had a great time, it's all about the atmosphere bro, if it's a good crowd you'll still have a great night even if you don't have the best view. Hope it's a good fight 4 u :boxing:
Thanks for that.
And for your previous post, fair enuff I hear what your saying and I ain't a big Harrison defender but it's the notion of if people haven't heard/saw a certain fighter in action then he's labelled as shit that I don't care for. I'd like to see him fighting the elite in the division as they would be action packed while they lasted(not all of them winnable, Chi I would favour Scott to beat but the rest would paste him imo) Joan Guzman is his mandatory and the match is being mooted for early next year (If he gets past Hussein of course!)so would Guzman be a satisfactory opponent for you even though he's not elite?
Calzaghe has notoriously bad hands so getting an injured hand isn't anything unexpected but because he said he may get injured BEFORE the fight that doesn't look good at all and now he's moaning about judges etc. and it's making him seem a bit of a pussy like he's looking for excuses if he does lose, if he's so confident that he'll knock Lacy out which he's been saying then he shouldn't need judges anyway! but at the same time for every title fight there should be 3 neutral judges, using people from guys hometowns only gives people a reason to shout conspiracy.
I doubt he would beat the top men of the division but I would love to see it happen.
Its better to be beaten by a great fighter than keep fighting bums.
Absolutely couldn't agree more, if he fights the best and gives a good account of himself then he'll have gone up in most peoples estimations, as for actually winning I say stylewise Chi's the man to shoot for :boxing:
A lot of fans will defend their chosen fighter on the internet but if your talking about fans attending fights then I have to say the Hatton fans in Manchester are crazy, they'd pay £150 to watch Hatton fight my granny, really though in the past when the opponent was below par or unheard of he still got around 10/15,000 to every fight, oh and Joe Calzaghe doesn't have a fan base outside of Wales I don't think, he's never been very popular, the only sell outs he's had was when Hatton was on the bill :D
well yes and no!....if he were from the states, then yes......
but over in the U.K, Germany, etc........all they need to do is fight bums and they still get big bucks....its because the public is so brainwashed, they actually believe they are going to watch a genuine fight.....
Not true up here mate, both Frank's Warren & Maloney have been complaining that the Scottish public haven't been turning out to see Harrison recently, that's simply because nobody knows who the opponents are so what your doing is generalising bud and it's not accurate, the Scottish fans won't turn out to see Harrison fight a bum the way for instance Ricky Hatton fans have in the past ;)
Even though it was only 1 fight you have to give a mention to Tilleman cos that was just laughable but not really! A guy I haven't seen for a while is Toby Gibson, can't stand the bloke and Jay Nady, not a big fan of his either much too fussy.
as an american who once lived in britain now back in the states.
NO DOUBT........mickey vann
and a blind as a bat judge too.
p.s. get rid of those skin tight, saturday night fever, high rise, faggot black polyester pants!!!!!!!!
oldwarrior
:D I never noticed it b4 but a boxing writer said watching Mickey Vann referee was like watching an episode of 'come dancing' where they do the ballroom type stuff, just watching him float around the ring cracks me up now it's funny as fuck.
It was a disgrace that he should have been allowed to ref so many Hatton fights on the trot it was over 10 in a row if i'm right, doesn't give off a good impression that.
Man that's terrible I thought he was going to pull through as the doctors were sounding more optimistic, the poor guy fought his heart out as well, my thoughts go out to his family & especially his kids man that just sad.
R.I.P. Leavander Johnson
Yeah I saw this on teletext today, what a horror show! you couldn't pay me to watch this fight, hopefully they'll both land a knockout punch at the same time in round 1 to save everyone the eye sore ;)
You only have to look at his record to see he's fought very good opponents. I dont even like Harrison but you have gotta respect that he will fight anyone.
Don't forget bro if they ain't heard of them then they must be shit
Sugar Boy Malinga showed on 2 occasions that a good long range boxer who stays on the outside would give Benn nightmares so Hagler being just that would either beat Benn in the later rounds or points. It's one thing outboxing Henry Wharton but Hagler's a different league all together and if he tried to outbox him I think he'd get widely outscored, Benn's best chance would be to go hell for leather and try to outwork Hagler while looking to land the big shot & at 160 you have to give Benn a punchers chance with anyone but if you wanted an antidote to that big punch it's Hagler's jaw so it has to be Hagler for me.
I'd go for Lacy by ko anytime before the 6th, Calzaghe will come to fight (unlike Reid who I was very disappointed in both in the ring and in the interview afterwards)and I think that'll play into Lacy's hands, the guys just so explosive that I can't see Calzaghe taking a clean shot and not be in trouble and as I say Calzaghe will try to fight back and this is where he'll get done, it would be a good action fight while it lasted but don't be surprised if Calzaghe ends up 'injured' after his fight in September, guy must have the record for pulling out of fights or proposed fights I have a hard time sticking up for him.
Who in their right mind would want to put their bodies through that all over again! Top marks to both guys.
I love the Mexican fighters so i'll be cheering for Castillo, but wouldn't be too pissed off if Chico wins cos I like him as well & the guys a warrior.
I picked Castillo by ko in 11 last time and i'll stick with that.
