I love the UFC and don't really care for the WCL. I think the whole format of teams is absolutley rediculous. MMA is as close to real and pure fighting as there is. If you want someone on your side in a street fight, there is no better fighter to have on your side than an MMA fighter.
Well, if there will be more than 2 fighters involved, I would rather have a fighter who has trained specifically in striking (punch/kick) than someone who trained in striking and grappling. Grappling will not be very effective against multiple attackers for they would easily be pummeling you while you are trying to pull an armbar on their associate.
I also don't understand this concept. It is amusing to see some posters be critical of Floyd claiming he takes easy fights, then turn around and call their boxer's opponents bums and not in the same league. I wish there was some sort of birth control that could single out the bad chromosomes.

I'm not saying the fight shouldn't happen, I would love to see that fight and hope that it is Cotto's next. But by some of the standards set for by and for Floyd by his diehards, the Williams vs. Cotto fight doesn't need to happen as well.
Actually they've been asking him to step it up soon after the Castillo fights when he went into fighting soft opposition after Castillo scare.
And you can't say just one fight against Cotto when even the boxing media wanted him to fight Margarito!!!!

Hatton sold out the MGM grand and all the outside tv screens in vegas and all the hotels in vegas. Plus the prostitutes got more work than ever because of hatton fighting in vegas.

For me personally i think out brawling margarito is more impressive...especially since margarito has a chin of iron, a lot of power in both hands, and uses 1200+ punches a fight it would be more impressive to beat him at his own game; especially when margarito is so good at what he does and taking into consideration that cotto's chin has been questioned from time to time.
I think that would send a big, clear message to the entire welterweight division of who the tough guy is.
However i think for cotto to land a floyd fight it would be more impressive if he demonstrates great boxing and brawling ability...showing floyd and company he isnt a one trick pony (as floyd thinks he is).
Outboxing him will probably be what it comes down to in the later part of the fight (after both men have taken huge shots). Thats why i believe cotto will win is because he's a superior boxer to margarito and he doesnt HAVE TO out brawl margarito to win but margarito really only has one chance to win; out brawl him/knock him out...because if margarito doesnt get to him early and often cotto will win it on boxing ability down the stretch.
I'm a huge Floyd fan and by judging by his recent decisions, I seriously doubt Floyd would care how Cotto does as long as he wins and generates a lot of noise. I don't buy the whole, "you have to win impressively to earn a shot at me" mumbo jumbo. As long as Cotto can bring in PPV buys, Floyd will fight him.
If Cotto were to stop Margarito or beat him at his own game, It would benefit him and Boxing more than if he were to straight up Box him. A combination of both would be great.
I've lurked on this forum for a couple of months just to get new on boxing. From what I've seen from 2501, he seems like a pretty leveled poster with valid opinions on boxing. He can get a little wreckless with his posting, but it is usually humerous. I don't see why Addison is getting so worked up about this.

In all fairness, listing Mayweather as a fighter who "cares" about his fans is pretty ludicrous in light of his recent decisions.
This certainly depends on the circumstances of the situation which the threadstarter should have taken into consideration. There may be a bigger opportunity on the horizon for Cotto that we dont know about.
Of course though, if there is no such thing and he avoided this fight with nothing else already in mind. he should be scrutinized just like any other fighter.

Here is a guy dedicating his internet time to defending another grown man and he has the nerve to say another guy looks like a "flamer" just because he has been hurt by the words typed by that particular guy. I've gone from being annoyed by Horus to feeling pity for him.
It's incredible to think that his mother, his father, girlfriend/wife(?) are not the most important people in his life, but rather Floyd and Roger Mayweather and Leonard Ellerbe. This is one of the saddest things I've seen on the internet and possibly, outside life.
Let me give you a few example of fighters doing the same or worse in the good old days of boxing:
Jack Demsey - The World Heavyweight Champion didn't defend his title for 2 years. Back then there was only one champion and there were no mandatories. In his first fight back, he lost the title.
The Cinderella Man Jim Braddock - Didn't defend his World Heavyweight title for 2 years. In his first defense, he lost to Joe Louis. This guy is supposed to be a hero yet he held up the division for two years.
Floyd Mayweather - Hold a unofficial P4P title which is based on opinion. Is the WBC welterweight champion and just defended against another P4P best in Hatton. The contenders of 147 have WBO, WBA and IBF titles they can go after now.
So how is he any worse then those great champions before him.......in the good old days of boxing.

It's nothing to me. However this is a boxing message board where we discuss a variety of topic related to boxing. So if you try to simplify it down to "Mayweather is scared/Ducking Cotto" I will tell you otherwise.
As I told you yesterday, you have a job that you get paid for doing and boxing is just a hobby to you. Something that entertains your.
For the fighter, boxing is HIS JOB. They have no pensions or nothing. So when you're hot and you're in a position to make alot of money, you take it.
In this case Floyd is fightin a guy he already defeated for another major paday.
What's it to me? Again nothing.....I just like to kill time with a debate.
Thats great. But he IS profiting from the moniker, "Best Boxer Alive" and "Ring Champion" and "P4P #1" is he not? These labels carry a certain standard which those who were named in the past met and my issue with Floyd is that he isn't doing that. In what other sport can those be considered the best, those who profit from that label, not behave in the manner of which the best do? What other sport? I understand that "thats just the way it is", but that doesn't mean we have to accept it now does it? Isn't this what created the declined in boxing? We can't be rubbing it in other fan's faces claiming how Floyd is the best and Floyd will beat anyone when he doesn't do that or prove it. If he has nothing else to prove, why not move out the way, relinquish these labels and let other fighters who are hungrier fight for them? Thats the way I see it at least.
