You should check out the World Combat League. For those of you not familiar, its basically MMA without grappling and submission or any clinching longer than 3 seconds. They fight in a padded circle instead of in a ring or cage though. They also fight in teams, and have 2 fights each in one night. Each fight though is only 3 minutes. Its pretty cool. They have some fighters with some decent Boxing skills. Girls are on the team too.
I posted this here because I know some Boxing fans shy away from UFC because of the grappling and shit.
K-1 Max >
No one on their roster will be even close to Buakaw, Souwer, or Masato in terms of world-class striking skills.
True. The org is still pretty new and only attracting lower level fighters for the most part. But there have been a couple of UFC guys go through there. And of course the WCL has it's poster boy Raymond "The Real Deal" Daniels:
And I really can't hate on them since ultimately they are giving fighters a payday and they are putting them on national television. Plus they are at least trying to improve and evolve their product.
i would wayyyy rather watch this then UFC! UFC sucks its just 2 guys gettin into a street fight until one of them gets tired and lays on the other 1.
Not to mention that you are guaranteed to see a couple of KOs in each WCL event. They currently boast a 35% KO rate - more than any other sport. So that about 3 KOs per game.
mma fighters do know how to strike but what about those idiots who grab you and try and take you down. mma fighters are trained for every situation of fighting. a striker is useless against a person who would grab them and take them down.
Are MMA fighters trained to take on more than one opponent at the same time?
I don't mind watching UFC or World Combat, but as we all know nothing compares to boxing. When someone questions how I can religiously follow boxing but tend to only watch Mixed Martial Arts sparingly, the answer is fairly simple. It's the same reason why no one watches college wrestling when it is on tv, about 90% of the time it is two sweaty dudes laying on each other.
Hahahaha, well the only way "two sweaty dudes" will be "laying on each other" in the WCL is if there is a double-KO. Remember, no groudwork in the WCL! It does keep the pace of the match going, that's for sure...

I have only been involved in 2 altercations that included more than 2 fighters and it is my experience that going down to the ground is not a good idea in an all out brawl.

You seemed confused. This is a sport, not self-defense. This is not meant to simulate a "street fight" nor is it designed to be self defense. It's just a striking sport with rules like any other game. Now I can certianly understand that some people prefer grappling and thus would prefer the UFC or EXC, and if that is the case then the WCL is probably not for you.
But the truth is that K-1 isn't making any effort in the US (no K-1 MAX in Las Vegas and they don't even show the K-1 re-runs on FSN anymore). The WCL is only org right now that is putting kickboxers on national TV and giving them thier payday. As long as it's being promoted positively, I can't hate on it.
Cheers!
Well, if there will be more than 2 fighters involved, I would rather have a fighter who has trained specifically in striking (punch/kick) than someone who trained in striking and grappling. Grappling will not be very effective against multiple attackers for they would easily be pummeling you while you are trying to pull an armbar on their associate.

I love the UFC and don't really care for the WCL. I think the whole format of teams is absolutley rediculous. MMA is as close to real and pure fighting as there is. If you want someone on your side in a street fight, there is no better fighter to have on your side than an MMA fighter.
