I read an article after the Gomez/Cotto fight. An official from Top Rank spoke on the condition of anonymity. He said Top Rank has been working behind the scenes to try to secure a Floyd/Cotto match. That's my full extent of knowledge in terms of promoters trying to make the fight happen. P.S. When did I say the business side didn't matter? Don't put words in my mouth. Do you have a link for that? I would love to read it. I didn't and I wasn't attempting to put words in your mouth. Most of the time when taking about the business side of making fights happen, people seem to just throw it off as if it isn't important....Trust me, if Arum made the right offer to Mayweather for a fight with Miguel Cotto, he will take it...IMO

Unless a miracle happens and Cotto vs Mayweather is set for September, Cotto will still fight Margarito in July. People come up with excuses why a contract isn't signed or why the long hold out. Nobody knows man. Cotto ain't duckin anyone. He asked for the fight last year and Tony turned it down. Now that Cotto is a bigger name does it surprise you he jumped up to fight Cotto now (I notice a lot of Marg fans dodge that statement)? I don't see Floyd taking a Cotto fight just yet. Margarito is the only dude there to fight and I can't wait to see it. The fight will happen...patience people.

Its obvious NSB would criticize. Mostly the Floyd boys who want to be able to say Cotto ducks fights too. But outside of that if Cotto doesn't take the fight who cares. I would be extremely pist. Unless of course he fought PBF or DLH other then that he has no one else to face other then marg right now. Unless......im thinking crazy right now...Mosley asks for a rematch and gives up a good amount of money. But even then I would still want Cotto to face Marg then if he wants to face Mosley.

Cotto would be seen different. It wouldnt get him closer to mayweather ducking margarito and would make the phrase "most feared guy in welterweight" valid and true if cotto backs out of this fight. Everything is set i dont understand what is wrong with cotto. I had high hopes for this fight but im starting to get a bad feeling bout it maybe not happening because of cotto backing up or pricing himself out on purpose so he dont face margarito.

This certainly depends on the circumstances of the situation which the threadstarter should have taken into consideration. There may be a bigger opportunity on the horizon for Cotto that we dont know about. Of course though, if there is no such thing and he avoided this fight with nothing else already in mind. he should be scrutinized just like any other fighter.

I can very well imagine Arum getting impatient with Cotto right now. I think in this game, there should be a maximum flat fee for any fighter in any big fight. Lets say something like 1 - 4 Million and their star power will generate more money for them via a variable percentage of the gate, depending on the magnitude of the fight.. That will make fights happen. Promoters will not be hesitant to put dream fights together as it will be a less risky financial endeavor for them and fighters cannot go all diva and overprice themselves.

The only valid excuses at this point would be if Cotto could somehow line up a bigger money fight with Mayweather or DLH (not likely), or if he were to split with Bob Arum over a money issue. Unless there is an injury (fall in the shower?), there is a 90-99% chance of this fight happening as planned. There is the problem that Floyd and Oscar are whispering in his ear. He will need to split with Arum, but I think he should follow through with this
