Why's nobody questioning why 2 fighters coming off a loss in their last fight are fighting for a vacant World title?
Matthysse is Maidana with a little more skill. Morales will probably push him close though.
Agree that Khan will want Morales and have nothing to do with Matthysse.
Haha the brits are so mad, guess you guys dont get any champs too often so I wont ruin the parade. Too bad nobody will know who Burns is in a year except the guy who lost to a ice cream salesman. Dude has no power and no real amazing boxing ability, he was the better man tonight but thats not saying much. Stop acting like hes the re-incarnation of Jesus.
He actually beat the ice cream salesman. And now he's beaten a guy that people were creaming themselves about all week. So give the guy some credit. He's not the re-incarnation of Jesus but he's a good kid and on tonights performance, a worthy world champion.,
Mark Wahlberg is making a movie right now about Micky Ward and his brother. I think it's called "Fighter" or something like that. I was kinda surprised, I thought he might would do Arturo Gatti, he certainly looks more like him then Micky.
I wouldn't mind seeing one about Arturo.
As far as I know, The Fighter is about Mickey Ward's brother Dickie Eklund(and his interesting life) as much as it is about Ward. It's more about the relationship between brothers than just a straight up Boxing flick. Sounding like it could be a pretty cool film though.
As for picking any fighter to make a movie on - For me there's no contest - Roberto Duran hands down. His life has a real arc to it. I think his highs and lows are as extreme as anyone that's ever taken part in the sport.
A flick about Jack Johnson would be interesting too.
I had it a draw as well but that was me watching as a Brit and a Carl Froch fan. Gave him 2 or 3 of the close rounds.
Definitely didn't think Froch won the fight.
If I watched it again as a neutral rather than as a fan I'm pretty sure I'd score it Kessler by a couple of rounds.
The first fight I ever watched was Nigel Benn vs Nicky Piper back in '92. I was only 9 so I have only vague memories of Piper getting stopped. Can't remember much else from the fight.
The fight that is the clearest in my memory is the Nigel Benn - Gerald McClellan fight. It feels like only yesterday I was watching that fight. The aftermath kinda overshadowed what a classic fight that was.
Despite all the fights I watched growing up, what really got me into boxing was hearing and reading about some of the old fighters(Louis/Schmeling, Ali/Frazier/Liston/Patterson/Foreman, LaMotta/Sugar Ray, Duran/Leonard) and searching for the old fight films, to see them in action for myself)
I know SecondsOut.com are showing the fight. I'm not sure how good the quality of the live feed is though.
You have to pay though. 6 or 7 Bucks I think.
Taking steroids doesn't mean that you can take unlimited punishment and shake it off as if it's nothing. Cos that's what Paulie seems to be saying.
Paulie finds it hard to take that anyone could stand up to Cotto because he couldn't do it. He wants everyone to believe that Cotto's the greatest fighter there is just because he lost to him.
Cotto's done. Margarito broke his heart, Manny capitalised where Clottey couldn't.
Floyd Sr. is a professional shit stirrer. And what the **** does Cintron care who's on drugs and who isn't? Concentrate on your own career and stop gossiping like a little bitch.
Up next --- Cotto v Cintron ----- The battle to see who Margarito damaged most.
I've just finished watching the fight with the commentary turned off and had it
115-114 for Martinez. I don't have any problems with Williams winning the fight though.
Judging, as we all know is subjective. This is especially highlighted in close fights.
However, there is no defending an 119-110 score in that fight. It makes you feel like the Judge already had a winner in mind before the fight started and therefore made his scorecard fit his own agenda.
I feel bad for Martinez but also for Williams because his victory is in danger of being overshadowed by a judge's ridiculous score.
Donaire v Darchinyan was pretty brutal. The KO machine getting Ko'd himself
Glen Johnson v Roy Jones was pretty scary too. Jones seemed to be down for ages after that.
I think for most people the word you'd use to describe Wlad isn't Boring.....more like very predictable.
He's safety first, for very good reason(based on his past)
I think Haye would engage Wlad plenty. Then we'd see what both of them are made of.
Two chinny heavyweights who can bang(when they want to) Could be interesting.
Vitali on the other hand, i believe, would be a step too far for Haye IMO.
Hopefully we'll get to find out.
I respect Floyd as a fighter but find it impossible to respect him as a person. Margarito on the other hand seems like a humble, down to Earth kinda guy.
What can i say man? He beat Miguel Cotto.
Cotto was boxing beautifully, i honestly gave him the first six rounds. But i think it mght have been the round Margarito had in the 7th is when i started thinking Cotto cant fight like this for 12.
The fight was going exactly how i thought for 6 rounds, but Margarito didnt wear down and instead Cotto tired.
Margarito was on a mission and walked through a loooooot of shots and missed a loooooot os shots without getting hurt or discouraged at all.
Margaritos chin and stamina won him the fight. Also must factor in his great will and determination. Cotto was fighting exceleent with a great game plan but he just couldnt keep it up for 12 against the bigger stronger fighter.
Cotto couldnt fight any better, maybe work the body more. He didnt work Margarito's body at all. But im sure Margarito had something to do with that, maybe his uppercuts or somethng.
Margarito deserves a huge money fight against De La Hoya or a rematch with Williams. Cotto should fight the winner of Judah-Clottey. He probably needs an easy fight next though to see how he bounces back. The skills looked amazing last night, he just needs confidence back. I dont think any fighter but a beast the size of Margarito could break him down like that at 147.
props to Margarito, props to Margarito's fans. Your man must have made you proud last night. I just hope Cotto can bounce back from a loss like Margarito did against Williams and cam back stronger than ever a little while back.
I couldn't agree with you more. Margarito did his fans, his country and himself proud. The fans were right to have such confidence in their man.
I also hope that the Mexican people can respect the part that Cotto played in the fight, because after 5 rounds I thought he was running away with it. The 6th round onwards it was pretty much all Margarito.
I must admit i had my doubts about him before the fight but they have all been put to bed now. I've been converted.
I've no doubt that Cotto will come back as strong as ever. I don't think he'll be rushing to get back in the ring with the 'Tornado' though.
I scored it 4-2 in favour of Cotto in the first 6, he was outboxing Margarito with ease. Round 7 was the turning point though and Margarito really put the pressure on Cotto and he was never the same after that round, Cotto's face just got worse and worse.
Mad props to both fighters, that's my favourite fight of the year so far.
Seriously, the fight of the year? It was a great fight but it's been a great year so far.
While I was watching it I was thinking Fight of the year but then i remembered how much i loved Vasquez-Marquez III. It's a tough decision in my mind, maybe i'll have to go back and watch them both again.
It's just great for the sport of boxing that a fight that we'd all hyped up in our minds, lived up to and exceeded all of our expectations.
Most exciting fighter in world boxing
:lol1:
I laughed when Mick Hennesey said this too.
I like Fury and think his fights are entertaining but "most exciting fighter in world boxing"? Really Mick? Really?
Someone get the guy some vids of Brandon Rios quick.
I definitely can't see Abraham getting stopped, let alone getting knocked out. The 1st Miranda fight proves that to a point but I can't see him beating Pavlik either.
Pavlik's all action, pretty much all the time. Abraham's defence is good but he is there to hit and Pavlik will take advantage. I just think Pavlik will land more than Abraham.
If anyone's gonna get knocked out it's Pavlik but i don't think it'll come to that.
Pavlik by close but unanimous decision.
As a boxing fan I'm just glad to see Abraham prove what a great fighter he is and set up this great fight.
When this fight happens it's us boxing fans that are the real winners.
Why are so many people equating having shit loads of tattoos with looking bad ass? These days people with tats are dime a dozen, it's become fashion more than anything else.
As for most bad ass looking. I'd have to agree with every1 who's said Mayorga. The look in his eyes at times is terrifying.
Mayorga will try the same mind games that he usually tries but they won't work on Mosley. Is there a more laid back guy in the sport than Sugar Shane?
Mosley to wear Mayorga down and take him out in 7
Aside from his undeniable natural ability, he also seems like a really humble, down to Earth kid(which is always nice to see. IMO).
He talks the talk but signs are that he'll walk the walk at the top level in years to come, he's a young kid with a bright future so why shouldn't he be confident in his skills?
I agree he needs to start fighting a higher level of opponent though, until this happens we won't know for sure how far he can go.
You have to ask yourself tho, why fight someone if you know one will win. I'm not saying he is on the level of the top 5 but he sure needs to fight jon thaxon after this fight, then i think he should still not go for a title but i don't agree he should fight bums for the rest of his days like hatton. If khan is trying to do what Tyson did and learn in the ring then, yes but his opposition should not be of a low standard.
Wasn't there talk of a Thaxton-Khan fight a little while ago. I seem to remember the reason it didn't go ahead was because Thaxton's people withdrew from the purse bids. Correct me if i'm wrong.
or
Was it because he already had the Romanov fight in the works?
Because Floyd isn't the one chasing an opponent and is the no.1 fighter, where as Cotto is the one who is looking to fight Mayweather and if he wants a shot he has to get past boxers like Margarito.
I hear what you're saying and i agree with you but, it just seems unfair to me that Cotto has to face one dangerous guy after another(Gomez not included) in the hope that PBF will give him a shot. And even after Cotto defeats all the contenders(which he's by no means certain to do) PBF could still decide not to fight him.
Granted PBF's in the position they all want to be in and has earned the right to do what he likes. I just find it unfortunate that all these talented guys are gonna be slogging their guts out, putting everything they have on the line in the vain hope for a shot at the champ which may never materialise.
What annoys me about the whole PBF/welterweight situation is that all the talk is about Cotto facing all these guys-Margarito,Cintron, Quintana, Williams etc. Why should Cotto do all the clearing out of the contenders?
PBF's probably sitting back thinking these guys are a waste of his time, hoping someone else ices Cotto so he doesn't have to.
I have all the respect in the world for Floyd as a fighter. But he currently sits atop the best division in the sport right now withut having having to prove he's the best.
We've seen him collect his big wedge against DLH, we've seen him beat the best Light-Welter in the world(Hatton). Now we want to see him prove he's the best Welter.
For boxing fans, Cotto-Mayweather's the match which poses the most questions that need answering.
By the way Mundines talking he is confident he will get Winky.
That's the point though. All Mundine ever does is talk.
Who has he ever fought? The only unbeaten guys he's ever fought are Kessler and Ottke and he lost both times. Sven Ottke knocked him out for Christ's sake. Every other fighter that he's fought since Ottke has at least 3 defeats on his record(Except for 3 or 4 unknowns and Kessler)
What's his obsession with Sam Soliman anyway? Are they family? Is Anthony Mundine setting up a pension fund for Soliman or something?
I don't understand how a guy with as much to say as Mundine cannot come even close to backing up what he says.
IMO there's at least 5 Super Middles who could beat Mundine(And that's a conservative estimate.) Bute, Kessler(again), Froch, Bika and Miranda)
Come to think of it, Inkin, Andrade and Berrio would stand a pretty good chance too.
Don't get me wrong, it takes a talented guy to excel at two sports but anyone who believes that he's anything more than an average fighter is delusional.
It's unbelievable how stupid some fighters are nowadays.
Berto by his own admission is "Never Bitter. Never Sour" "takes his L like a man" but is making baseless allegations about the guy that beat him.
