Well when I was a kid my first fight I saw was when De La Hoya fought Fernando Vargas. It was so explosive because we had all our family over watching cheering Oscar.
But the fight that got me into boxing was when I saw Mayweather fight Hatton. Hahaha. Basically I saw him on dancing with the stars and I wanted to see him fight, and I instantly loved boxing. But then he retired then I quit watching boxing. Then my father told me there's this fight coming up it's going to be REALLY good. I watched De La Hoya fight Pacquiao. Hahaha weird. Anyways when I saw Pacquiao beat the leaving mess out of De La Hoya I felt really sad. Because Oscar was the first fight I ever saw. :) Since then I've become a big fan of boxing.
When I was 5 I was taught to box and where i'm from there are always free fight on the plaza every sunday. So that basically hook me up. And I grow upwatching Tsyzu, Hamed, RJJ and Mike.
Oldest fight I clearly remember Holyfield vs Tyson I. I watched fights occasionally growing up, but I probably became more than a casual fan about 5 years ago.
I remember watching the Tyson fight that was on free tv on Fox. I didn't have cable when I was that young and Tyson fighting (or big fights in general) never happened on over-the-air tv...
Edit: Found a story on it http://www.allbusiness.com/marketing-advertising/marketing-techniques-media/7690167-1.html
It was in 1995 against Buster Mathis Jr. I was 9 years old.
damn i feel old 1st fight i watched on tv was tyson fight not sure what one but everyone in nyc watched tyson
fight tht got me hooked was coralles castillo and hatton tszyu been die hardf since
it was either floyd vs zab or jermain taylor vs bhop 1 , its strange i didnt starting watching boxing earlier because my family always ordered ppv's im 17 so i guess its not a late start
hahaha same with mine.
How old are ya? jeez my first fight that really got me into boxing was Pryor vs Arguello. Wow, I've been following ever since
I'm only 18 still a baby. :)
can't remember the first fight i saw but i think it was Chris Eubank on the Big Fight Live can't think who the opponent was
first one that i can really recall though is watching Benn vs McClellan with my dad who really doesn't care for boxing but even he said that was one of the most exciting (and disturbing) things he had ever seen
naseem hamed was my first favourite fighter though him and Tyson
The first fight I ever saw was Ali vs Shavers.I had always seen old clips of Ali so that made me a huge Ali fan. I wasn't a fan of boxing until I watched Leonard vs Hagler. I've been a fanatic ever since.
The first fight I ever watched was Nigel Benn vs Nicky Piper back in '92. I was only 9 so I have only vague memories of Piper getting stopped. Can't remember much else from the fight.
The fight that is the clearest in my memory is the Nigel Benn - Gerald McClellan fight. It feels like only yesterday I was watching that fight. The aftermath kinda overshadowed what a classic fight that was.
Despite all the fights I watched growing up, what really got me into boxing was hearing and reading about some of the old fighters(Louis/Schmeling, Ali/Frazier/Liston/Patterson/Foreman, LaMotta/Sugar Ray, Duran/Leonard) and searching for the old fight films, to see them in action for myself)
being Nicaraguan-born (as am I), my dad used to have VHS videos of Arguello fights.
So when I got to the states around '88 (i'm born '82), I had some interest in boxing. I think the first fight I remember watching here was a Tyson fight...I remember it was a big deal, so it must've been Holmes.
Since then I've been following boxing....not hardcore like some of you guys..but enough to hold my own in a conversation.
Don't remember the first fight, but the fight that really got me hooked was Cotto-Mosley. Became a fan of both guys, and a boxing fan after that fight.
That was a great fight BTW
it was either floyd vs zab or jermain taylor vs bhop 1 , its strange i didnt starting watching boxing earlier because my family always ordered ppv's im 17 so i guess its not a late start
