The way i see it is a guy hits very hard, just throwing his average punches, that it almost comes natural to him and he isnt really trying to throw them hard. Guys like Golovkin, Kovalev, Lucas and johnny.
Then there are guys whose power comes from speed, like rigo or Canelo
This dude got it:boxing::boxing: Best post thus far.
Looking at some of the responses I get the impression that a number of the posters never fought before, don't box, or haven't fought past middle school/junior high.
Heavy Hands means that you are throwing punches that look weak or average but in reality land with some serious power behind them. Typically they are punches that don't require you to put you body behind them such as jabs, crosses, and straights. Fighters like Ken Norton, Archie Moore, George Foreman, the Klitschkos, Pacquaio in his prime, Trinidad, Wilder, and Golovkin.
Don't think Porter is line for Money yet. I think Porter vs Thurman is coming up soon. Thurman should be at the Porter vs Brook fight to call out the winner.
Even with his unbelievable re-hydration and super human ability to avoid drug testing on the day of the fight I still think that Chavez Jr loses a majority decision to Sergio Matinez. Unless he invokes Top Ranks power of making judges see only punches thrown by the fighter that Arum wants to win. If that happens its Chavez Jr by split decision with little to no upset from the media outside of an obligatory "wow" from Max Kellerman.
Great find. I remember reading an article with Roy talking about the state of boxing commentary not long ago. As always Roy was dead on. Boxing really needs to fix this.
A lot of the people tuning in these fights are casual fans or noobs that only know what they get from these commentators. Showtime does an ok job but HBO needs serious overhaul. You got Jim Lampey on one side giving reach arounds to the house fighters and ruining the show with his wrong calls and schoolgirl cheering. Then you have Larry Merchant talking crap about everyone and Harold Lederman and his biased scores between the rounds. Emanuel Steward does a ok job most of the time. It's to the point where if Kellerman and RJJ aren't involved I keep the volume down.
Nah, Atlas, although he loves to hear himself talk is one of my favorite commentators. I'm surprised Roy brought this up though, he's right though.
At this point I'm not liking Max or Steward. By the way I've only now entered the 4th season of The Wire, I know I'm late but I'm definitely feeling the show.
I hear ya. Max isn't the best but he is the lesser of the evils. Steward is mostly not trying to say anything controversial, except for his comments on Chavez, but he wasn't on the clock then. It might be just me but it seems sometimes Steward gets lost in the fight and doesn't know what is going on.
Has anyone else noticed that HBO edits the replays of PPV bouts to remove some of the live commentary?
Better late than never on The Wire. I'm actually watching season 5 for the 3rd time this week.
Chavez vs Martinez 2 gets justified for the same reason Pacquiao vs Marquez 4..... Bob "the Godfather" Arum. I swear he's the greatest used car salesman ever. During the post fight interview for Pac-Marquez 3 he told the world that we gotta do it again because there is a lot of money to be made in doing it again.
Arum can sell you a car, buy it back for half the price, and then sell it back to you along with a second car for triple the price.
Is he doing something illegal? Nothing has been proven, but I suspect he is. Chavez Jr has conveniently avoided post fight testing for his last three fights excluding the Martinez bout. Got to love Texas rules.......
I really wish this guy luck. I hated the fact that he never fought "tall" and opted to get low and bang with the opposition, but he always put on a great fight and turned no one down. Its great to see that he has such a positive and forward looking attitude. Nothing but respect for the Paul "The Punisher" Williams.
I think Ortiz has a slightly better chance than Amir Khan of putting his career back on track. Mayweather Sr is a good trainer but I'm not sold that he can help Ortiz. He is better off working with Ann Wolfe. If anyone can man him up its her.
God I hope not. As big as a RJJ fan as I am I still wish he would just hang up the gloves and move on to commentating full time. I think Floyd will probably hang it up soon before he is age catches up to him.
Green-eyed monster is definitely in full effect. Are the Watson twins clowns, absolutely. Are they everywhere, without a doubt. Are they doing anything wrong, no. I don't believe there is a boxing fan anywhere that would turn down the ability to have access to their favorite fighters. People should instead focus their dislike on characters who are actually doing damage to the sport of boxing.
He has a number if businesses in the Philippines.
Are you referring to his many bars and strip clubs? Can't forget his multi-hour variety show "Manny Many Prizes." Either way while he is a good boxer he's dumb as a box of rocks. This is the same dude that said with a straight face and his tattoos visible that he couldn't take blood tests because he is "scared of needles." Manny can't start a promotional company. It is well known that he can't handle his own money and he doesn't know zilch or doesn't care about the promotional side of boxing. So who in their right mind beside the impressionable kids surrounding him looking for a handout would sign up?
I take it back. Manny CAN start a promotional company and it will eventually bleed him dry like the rest of outside ventures and leeches surrounding him now. For his sake I hope Jinkee takes control and cleans house before he ends up too far in debt having to box to pay his bills and back taxes.
He has his MP Promotions that has done absolutely nothing...
Totally forgot about MP productions. MP exists to provide income for friends and is pretty much useless for putting on fights. I swear Manny is trying to be MC Hammer.
So Pacquiao said that Mayweather asked him over the phone "WHAT IF I LOSE?" Lets not forget that Pacquiao and his handlerss asked Mayweather and his people "What would happen if I tested positive?"

Game, set, match:boxing:
I wouldn't be surprised if there was a trend in Pacquiao's lies. They seem to surface right around the time he has a fight coming up...
The trend is to bring up Mayweather in order to drum up interest in whatever fight Pacquiao is currently promoting. I've counted at least 6 different occasions where Pac, Roach, Koncz, and Arum have mentioned Mayweather since they've announced the Pac vs Marquez fight.
I'm really getting tired of this broken record. Arum, Pac, and Mayweather need to all cut the b.s. and get it done.
its mayweather's fault ashley, he has a history of ducking. pacquiao didnt duck anyone he just fought marquez for the 4th time when he didnt have to.
mayweather will probably duck canelo or some other big challenge next and retire instead, that will solidify his position as history greatest ducker, then ppl will only remember how cowardly mayweather was and how it was all his fault
Are you serious? Don't let your bias for a particular fighter blind you. All fighters are guided by their managers and promoters on who they fight. Just because a fighter doesn't fight who you want them to fight or every single person that calls them out to fight doesn't equal ducking. Ducking is when a fighter avoids their mandatory. Almost every fighter from 130-160lbs calls out Mayweather and he obviously can't fight everyone. So if you consider that ducking then Pacquiao definitely ducked Joan Guzman. Guzman called out PAC every chance he had from 2005-2009. There are a number other fighters that by your logic that PAC would have supposedly ducked.
I really don't think either PAC or May are duckers. They are prizefighters that fight for the biggest pay day available. Unfortunately that is what the sport of boxing has come to this days. If you don't want to see prizefighting check out amateur bouts or Armed Forces boxing. There are tons of great fights that are always happening.
now you got Floyds opponents taking dives, your bu11shyt never ends
PAC-BOY's thinking of the $1.5M performance bonus Clottey got for not fighting back against Pac.
Roy Jones Jr all day. I like Money but Roy in his prime was a beast. Outside of the Hopkins, Roy destroyed his opposition.
Go back and watch the RJJ vs Richard Hall fight. Roy told the ref that Hall couldn't continue at the end of 10th round and ref brushes him off. Roy then proceeds to finish Hall with a 15-hit combo in the next round leading the ref to finally stop the fight.
but froid doesn't care about belts...they get dusty or some such thing :dunno:
so wanting a belt excuses fighting a guy that quits, but fighting lara because he poses an interesting stylistic matchup is off limits because...well, he's not a quitter and apparently wanting floyd to be in competitive fights is too much to ask for.
As much as true boxing fans want competitive fights that means nothing to casual fans who make up majority of the ppv buyers who get it to be part of the event and talk about it the next day. So if a fighter doesn't have a significant fan base and can't appeal to the casual fan base they don't get the big fights.
Lara is good, but he doesn't have the base or appeals to the casual fan. Bottom line is that Lara doesn't make money so it won't happen. I won't to see Floyd fight Thurman, but Thurman's base isn't there and is probably a lot smaller since the San Diego fiasco.
Hahaha. "Paper-mache Chin" Khan doesn't deserve a Floyd fight, but it would sell like crazy in England. GB will match him against a feather punching fighter as a warm-up or let him sit until the Floyd fight. Floyd by KO:boxing:
judah was smaller than floyd you idiot and pac is the same physical size as marquez and marquez has his number. fcks sake stay on topic.
floyd is not smarter than marquez. if they were evenly matched physically marquez would clown floyd.
Dude you really are trolling. Zab has the same reach and is only a 1/2 inch shorter than Floyd.
Floyd Mayweather - Height: 5′ 8″/Reach: 72″
Zab Judah - Height: 5′ 7½″/Reach: 72″
Juan Manuel Marquez - Height: 5′ 7″/Reach: 67″
Manny Pacquiao - Height: 5′ 6½″/Reach: 67″
We can talk about could of, would of, should if, if only... all day. It means nothing. Except the facts dude, Floyd is better. In the immortal words of the great Marlo Stansfield, "You want it to be one way..........But it's the other way."
You serious? With all the fights and all the recognition and accomplishment and you dare compare canelo to PAC? Canelo is a work in progress. He is a good fighter and as I've said ain't ripe yet and still learning. Hence he got schooled.
PAC is a war vet. He has a proven track record and a stellar career and you say canelo is greater? Geez is this really a boxing site? That's it! I'm out. This is retarded.
Are you serious? Pac is a boxer not a war vet. I really bothers me when I see posters call boxers war vets or say they are going to war. I love boxing, but that's disrespectful to real war vets and military vets that have actually been in combat. :usa2:
Ok, so back on topic. Pac is a great brawler-fighter type boxer, but his isn't a true boxer or strategist. I wish the dude luck on his next fight, but he isn't a threat to Floyd no matter how you try to hype it up. His power hasn't been devastating since the Clottey fight. That's why he's fight little Rios next in the hopes that he'll knockout the little dude out and all the casual fans(Skip Bayless included) will start screaming that Manny is back. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.........
