Why is Martinez vs Chavez 2 Justified but Mayweather vs Cotto 2 Not....
I mean seriously!? Both made money.
Martinez won 11 1/2 rounds and Chavez basically got a lucky punch because Martinez felt like playing Macho man and trading.
While Mayweather won convincingly, Cotto won at least 3-4 rounds and many of the rounds that Mayweather won were still close rounds.
Is this just an example of the power of a knockdown on casual fans?
I seriously dont believe that knockdown warrants a rematch.....if the case Roy Jones should have re-matched Lou Devalle.(NOT!)
I guess when I posted the question I would get a perspective I didnt think of but it seems my opening statement was reiterated in different words by most.
Were the fights blow outs?- Yes (Martinez/Chavez more)
Will both rematches sell to casual fans and hardcore?-Yes ( Casual more)
Will alot of money be made by all 4 fighters?- Hell yes! (which fight more?-debatable but I believe Floyd and Miguel)
Either they both are justified or both not, to me its Hypocritical to think one is and the other not.(So kudos to those who said neither or both)
It seems to me that the Knockdown was more important than both fights...lol (for the casual and hardcore fan)
No one ever said a bloody nose made the fight close or even a win for Cotto...SMH (for a casual fan-maybe)
Because Cotto, while competitive, lost the fight clearly and never hurt Floyd. In fact he's the one who got hurt in the end.
Martinez was dropped and badly hurt and it really looked like Chavez Jr was a few punches away from ending it.
chavez = vaca de dinero
martinez= not so much
_
mayweather= the sports biggest drawer
cotto = a top draw; just not the drawer floyd is.
in terms of drawing, chavez is to martinez as floyd is to cotto.
chavez almost won. cotto was beaten decisively.
Martinez winning 11 out of 12 rounds isn't beating Chavez decisively? If anything Martinez beat Chavez more decisively than Mayweather beat Cotto.
I honestly havent seen anyone talk down a Mayweather-Cotto rematch. I cant see Cotto winning a rematch anyway. And the only reason Id like Martinez to rematch Chavez is to actually watch Martinez finish him off this time around.
If a rematch happens for either or both fights I wont be complaining. If it doesnt its fine with me too.

Yeah agree.
Id prefer Martinez move on to a better fight and Jr fights Pavlik and as far as the Cotto vs Mayweather rematch it would make money but seems redundant.
Better fights for Cotto, Floyd and Martinez out there.
Neither are justified. People just want to spread rumors that the Mayweather Cotto fight was close and or that Martinez didn't dominate 11 3/4 of 12 rounds. Neither were close. In fact both won very very comfortably. Outside of Floyd's face being busted up and broken ear drums he dominated the fight.... wait that wasn’t Floyd, Floyd just had a little bloody nose. I guess when you look at the standards of just how high Floyd is held to, that MUST mean he lost the fight right?
Moving on, in Chavez jr's case, Bob is all about recycling fights that he thinks will bring in the money. We all already seen why Bob Arum didn't want to put Chavez Jr in with Sergio the first time, why would ANYONE want to see it again? Martinez has other fights that could be made. Beating and dominating Chavez again doesn’t do much for his legacy when other fights are available.
Again, neither are justified at the moment. If Cotto beats Trout, Alvarez, and maybe Kirkland then a rematch with Floyd could be looked at. Until then nobody wants to see that. I know I don't and I even watched it LIVE and had a blast watching the fight, not to mention watching grown men cry (like actually cry) when Floyd's hand was raised. It shows just how many noob fanboys pay to watch Floyd lose and have no idea how to score a fight.
Chavez vs Martinez 2 gets justified for the same reason Pacquiao vs Marquez 4..... Bob "the Godfather" Arum. I swear he's the greatest used car salesman ever. During the post fight interview for Pac-Marquez 3 he told the world that we gotta do it again because there is a lot of money to be made in doing it again.
Arum can sell you a car, buy it back for half the price, and then sell it back to you along with a second car for triple the price.
nope, but he's damn good and has had a hell of a career. he's a great story.
I hear that.
But I think he could still make it depending on how much he's got left in the tank.
He isn't going to get there by re-humiliating Chavez. That's what I'm not happy about.
I think Sergio deserves another payday too.
But I'd prefer it if it wasn't against that cunt of a punching bag. I can't stand him.
Not a perfect situation.
By the way, do you consider Martinez a HOF'er?

i don't blame martinez at all for trying to get paid.
every other fight at middleweight is a huge step down in the pay grade. martinez and chavez sold almost half a million ppvs... that's millions in revenue than they'll generate fighting anybody else, save mayweather, cotto, pacquiao

In all honesty, Martinez is looking for the payday, and they are up-front about that.
The knockdown gives him a great excuse to get the rematch made.
It's not right, but that's why.
Mayweather and Cotto don't need to look for paydays. Especially not with the same urgency as Martinez does.

I don't think there should be any rematch for JCCjr and Martinez.
If Sergio had his scare in this second round as opposed to the 12th would we still be talking about it?
This here ^^^

Because the fans got an exciting fight that came down to the wire in Martinez-Chavez Jr and a rematch could easily be sold to the casual fans with that last round.
Hardcore fans may see that last round as an fluke as Martinez was hurt and had no choice but to go toe to toe, but its an easy sell.
Even though Cotto gave Floyd a bloody nose there was never any doubt to the outcome of the fight. Cotto showed a lot of heart, but Floyd was and is just too good to make the fight any less than another UD.
Its all about what fight you can sell.
