It's simple while Alvarado and Rios both can bang and Rios may hit harder rios has no outside boxing skills while Alvarado does which makes the fight more dangerous.
Many fighters give thanks to god saying he/she/it gave him the strength to win, some of them talk about if "it's in god's plans" this and that. Do you guys believe in mixing God with boxing? Personally I don't think God gives anybody the strength to beat somebody up period. What do you guys think?
As a person who believes in God I will say that I don't think God gives us anything except what we are born with which also goes back to dna. We choose are paths and God will meet us halfway if we do are part. I always give this example when it comes to fate and God. Example, God plans for me is to live to be old in grey, but in the mist of things I say **** it and jump in front of a truck and die, that wasn't Gods plan but it was the path I choose, so in the end I look like Gods hand in our life as a fork in the road he knows all paths but we make the choices.
Give or take a round, these scores suggest we could've been in draw or split decision territory.
Kevin Iole, Yahoo! Sports: 115-113 Mayweather
Jake Emen, ProBoxing-Fans.com: 115-113 Mayweather
John Chavez, Boxing Truth: 115-113 Mayweather
Kevin Mitchell, The Guardian (UK): 116-113 Mayweather
Lance Pugmire, Los Angeles Times: 115-113 Cotto
Suge Green, On The Grind Boxing Radio: 114-114 Draw
Kellerman, Rafael & Fischer scored it 116-112 Mayweather
But having just rewatched the fight, and as a Cotto fan, I think this fight showed how much he's deteriorated. He boxed very well in some rounds, and there's an argument for him to get the nod for 4, or maybe 5 rounds. But Mayweather's clean punching was nice.
"You're a helluva champion. You're the toughest guy I ever fought." Floyd Mayweather Jr. to Cotto following the bout.
So who wins? MAYWEATHER-COTTO circa 2007-2008 at 147lbs?
I think a prime Cotto, circa 2007-2008 would've been able to make a fight against Floyd go into draw or split decision territory.
I'd take a prime Cotto over Mayweather - fan of both.
The problem with this whole idea is no one seems to take in to account that the floyd cotto fought isn't prime anymore either, prime floyd that fought judah, gatti, corley etc would tko Cotto and I'm a cotto fan but cotto defense was never that good and prime floyd let his hands go and was much faster than this Floyd.
example of shot Jermain Taylor in his last fight
Past prime Manny, Floyd, Hopkins, Marquez, Cotto, despite still being good fighters anyone following these guys careers know they are not at their best, which says alot about all the guys just listed seeing as how somway they are still finding ways to beat guys much younger than themselves and some in their primes
If canelo is so good why hasn't he fought anyone at jrmw other than trout. Please explain this to me. I like the kid but he has to be the most overrated guy I have every seen. It's getting ridiculous. You guys say Lara, angulo etc etc don't matter so what are we going to keep giving this guy a pass for fighting smaller guys. We don't even know how he can handle a punch he may have a seth mitchell chin for all we know. I mean trout can't even crack and he had canelo backing up wtf
It hurts his legacy completely, & makes him look scared, but most fighters would do the same if they were in his position. It's definitely lame & I disagree completely with it, but I can't exactly blame him for going for easy fights. He makes insane amounts of money regardless of who he fights. If he decided to fight someone like Andre Berto next if he beats Canelo he would still make 25-30 million total for the fight.
His whole gimmick is based on being undefeated, so he knows a lot of people order his PPVs to see if he loses. If he loses once, I guarantee that the money he rakes in per fight will drop & his PPV numbers would drop.
He picks fights where he knows he's the huge favorite because it's easy money for him. He demanded the Canelo fight be at a catchweight so he knows it would be easier for him to win. But can you blame him when he's making all that money based on being the #1 P4P fighter, & raking in all that cash regardless of who he fights?
Ok I'm just curious if Floyd is such a ducker, why didn't cotto Mosley, katayzu, I can keep going not want to fight him when he wasn't a big money draw? Were they ducking too? Also if he is such a duck other than jrmw's, and mws, aka size advantage not skill advantage, who would you favor to beat Floyd ww and jrww? I mean lets be real if Nelo was a ww no on would think he had a chance.
Most people on this site are stupid I came to conclusion. Lets be honest if may really did get 870ppv numbers I can guarantee 800,000 came from may with no nation to support him just him himself that says alot in itself. Think about it I won't even elaborate. If you're smart you'll get it.
I'm seriously tired of these loser threads the guy was just dumb to what a doc prescribed that's like saying toney roy oscar mosley etc etc is bums...he was handling guys way before the khan fight so quit the bs, lucas just a beast
Honestly Garcia looked concerned but with that said i don't think he is scared. I just think he was just as shocked as everyone. I mean really..who has every done that to peterson? And he was been in there with some punchers. I honestly thought it was going to be 50/50 but after seeing that fight I don't know who can beat him at 140 because the 2 fights he lost I think could have gone his way too. I think Paulie hit it on the nose when he said either it has to be a great technician like Floyd or someone with enough power to make lucas respect him and as much as I like Danny I don't know if he has either.
I'll agreed Hatton fight was sad too because I had him winning the fight, I always thought hatton was a class act so it sucked to see him crying because you knew he was passionate and really tried but just didn't have it anymore
In all fairness I like Lucas but he has no chance at all. First consider this, Peterson easily won the first round but got stupid and wanted to earn some respect in the 2nd to keep Lucas off and paid for it, Floyd is not dumb and he would box him all night. But other than Floyd I think any other guy can get it 140 to 147. My dream fights are Lucas & Rios or lucas and Provodnikov, or any other those bangers. I would like him to fight Devon again to because Devon is just boring as hell as skilled as he is and I just want to see him Ko'd.. I know that ain't right..lol
Seeing Tyson lose when I was younger was like watching a God fall...lol And even though I'm a Floyd fan I felt bad as hell when Manny lost, I mean I always felt he had flaws but I don't like to see any boxer like that especially seeing as how he was one of the faces of boxing, him and Floyd were almost synonymous, at first i was like damn, then he didn't get up and I got worried like ok is he ok?
I'd love to see it.
What makes you so confident?
If you're talking to me what makes me confident is that while pete knows how to box he has a tendency to stray from his game plan and bang which has worked for the most part until he met Lucas. Pete also gasses out so maybe he felt he had to bang. Floyd on the other hand can move and box all night, he is faster, and his timing is better, also too I think taking a punch from Floyd hurts more. He may not be knocking guys out but I keep telling people it's a reason guys like cotto, ortiz, mosley, etc etc even Robert stop throwing punching and find themselves backing up in the fight. And other than ortiz the other guys have proven chins and can take a punch
I got a couple things to say, but first please learn to use paragraphs.
Anyways, who says Floyd isn't an ATG? He is, but realistically he's he's not even near the top 20 ATGs of the sport. He's self proclaimed in my opinion because he never truly DOMINATED his weight classes by not fighting those that also could of stated they ruled it as there are multiple champions. At least he should of fought Paul Williams and 140 pound undefeated Cotto.
Guerrero tried to adapt? Seems like BS to me and I enjoyed the **** out of watching Floyd that night. Also, Manny threw over 1000 punches with Marg with Marg throwing over 800..
I give Floyd 55/45 to win against Manny. Back in 08-10 I got Manny pulling the upset 60/40.
I can insert paragraphs if you would like.....lol.. but let's get down to business. All the fighters people say Floyd ducked he tried to fight in there prime any true boxing fan knows this. Only duck I can honestly say is legit is Marg but money talks and baldimir offered more money at the time. And it's not about how many punches you throw it's how many you land (Canelo & trout) and how they affect you. Do you really think the Ghost output just dropped for no reason? Anyway I said this and always believed this May would beat manny not because he is not good it's styles. I want to see the fight but we all know if May wins now after the fight people will say he waited until Pac was washed up. But ask yourself why is it Floyd older been in the game about as long and outlasted all his rivals. And don't say cherry picking because he has fought good fighters. His problem was like a lot of young talent now when he was prime and other guys were prime he was not a name therefore high risk low reward.
That I understand but at the same time you need to understand that this is a business. Products are always advertised to be better than they actually are, you don't make money off of people with honesty.
Sad but true reality, hopefully the undercard packed. I know one thing Alvarado better be really injured or that would be bogus he deserves a pay day.
Not unreasonable really. I think Rios is just a marketable punching bag to get Pacquiao's confidence back or see how much he's got left in the tank. Most should agree.
Definitely agree not saying I won't be watching it should be a good fight but the double standards are really crazy even in the media
I would agree with you if this wasn't a pattern. I mean I like Pac I think he a great fighter but in the end, it should be labeled for what it is a warm up, people seriously acting like wow he has the balls to fight rios. Let's be honest Rios got schooled by Abril and is really not that great, manny should run through him.
The same thing can be said of Amir Khan. He loss to Peterson is marred with controversy, and he was competitive in his fight with Garcia before getting sonned. Under those circumstances no one expects Khan to take on dangerous fights right away.
If Pacquiao destroys Rios with ease, so be it. A tune up fight is not supposed to be difficult. It is suppose to let the fighter no where they are, regain confidence and gain insight with regards to the areas they need to improve.
Also I have no problem with Bob Arum ( or whoever is from Pacquiao's camp) hyping up the fight. What do you expect them to say when trying to sell the product. ''Yeah Pacquiao should steam roll this opponent, give me all of your money''.
True but khan is not consider atg and it's not ppv.. Don't get me wrong I don't want to see Pac get sparked out again trying to be to brave I just would like people and the media to take it for what it is a tune up
Jokes and immaturity put to the side, Pacquiao was recently knocked out, and hasn't exactly looked like a fighter at the top of his game in recent match ups. When you look at fighters like Amir Khan, who fought Diaz and Molina after getting knocked out, expecting Pacquiao to fight a dominant fighter on the back of 2 losses is unreasonable.
If I'm going to be honest I think him stepping in the ring with Rios is a bit stupid and it a sign that Bob Arum is more interested in cashing out on his fighter. It'd be more appropriate for Pacquiao to fight a fighter with a low output and low punching power so that he can actually tune up.
but you have to put things into prospective his lost to Brady was a lost on paper we all know who won, and to Marquez he was looking better than he looked since Cotto before he got caught. I know what you mean though the ko could have changed him, but people acting like Rios is a danger. If Pac is 60 percent of the guy who fought Marquez Pac is going to destroy him easy.
beating trout is way impressive than any Guerroro's previous opponents! you keep pointing that Canelo is no where near the skills of floyd then why did he fight Guerrero? Ortiz? Floydiots are in ducking move again! lol! quack! quack! quack! lol
Wow you really need too check out your facts. Berto, Aydin, Katsidis, Were all guys that Roberto fought moving up in weight and known punchers and he handled them Even Casamayor and Litzua were quality opponents when he fought them. Now I'm not saying Trout wasn't a good win, my point is, that's his only good win and in the fight he didn't look like the dominate guy we saw when he was fighting smaller guys. Some can even argue trout won off activity because Nelo wasn't even throwing much. I gave him the fight because he landed the meaningful punches but don't act like it was impressive how he won.
There are too many excuses for why the supposed pfp king can't fight a champ in at weight class he is a 2 time champ in. I'd understand if he wasn't touted as "the greatest fighter" of a generation. But I don't think "greatest fighter/pfp king" and cherrypicking and ducking really go together. Just doesn't compute to me.
I want to see the fight but you can't deny the fact that the oscar fight was a fight were Floyd fought for the money and had to give in to all Oscar demands because Oscar was the man at the time. Cotto is not really a 154 pound fighter. Canelo I think he should fight only for the money and bragging rights but lets not act like canelo doesn't have a huge weight advantage. That's like when Jones fought at heavyweight he was p4p then but did we really expect him to fight Lewis, or any of the other good heavyweights at that time? He fought Ruiz.
Floyd should fight Canelo at 154. If he wants to have a re hydration clause that says Canelo can't be over 170 or something, I'm cool with that.
I think Floyd will fight him and win despite having a major weight disadvantage
Stop using logic it's not allowed around here. I think Floyd should and will fight Canelo @154 so there won't be excuses.
lol I think he will too, I want to see the fight myself but if he was 147 pounder no one would really think he had a chance. He would just be another "Cherry Pick"
I noticed most guys who usually speak on my threads usually have substance I guess it's like they say when you present a valid argument people don't want to talk. I think as fans we need to really start backing these up and coming guys who work hard to get a spot in the sport. Just imagine how Floyd career would have turned out if he had stayed with Arum. I don't think it would be the same at all.
I didn't say Canelo wouldn't have a weight advantage. However when it came top Floyd/Marquez, many of Floyd fans claimed the size didn't win Floyd the fight it was skill. So why can't Floyd's skill win him the fight against Canelo?? Too much excuses for the supposed generations greatest and pfp king. Not mine, but the majority of people list.
I feel you on the skill size I think he still wins and wants him to fight him but even though Marquez jumped up 2 weight classes on fight night him and floyd were only about 3 pounds different. But I get what you mean I want him to take the fight to simply show you know what I'm so good I can beat this guy who outweighs me by 22 pounds and is 14 years younger than me.
so guerrero > canelo? how many times does guerrero fought on 147 before he fight floyd? this flomos are most stupid fans here! lol!
This has nothing to do with Guerrero and I do think Guerrero has shown more in the fights he has had, we don't really know how good nelo is because in every fight he has had a advantage in size. Only fight we can rate him on is the trout fight and honestly he didn't look like the same guy who beat down Lopez he looked gun shy. But back to the point. In your eyes is canelo skills set anywhere near floyds. If so explain how.
my thread was about the money team, not just floyd in particular, this isnt right... someone should reverse the mod decision and put me back into green for being unfairly treated when i see people making new floyd threads every day
lol I don't know what to tell you man
