He could very well lose his next fight against a guy like Lara. Then what?
He'd eventually have to move up to MW, and guys like GGG and Quillen are waiting there.
I don't see how Canelo beating Floyd = next superstar, when the division he's fighting in has an arguably more skilled fighter than him, and the weight class above is a nightmare.
You can't tell me, that there are enough fighters at JMW to avoid Lara and justify it.

I think Canelo is capable of beating Lara...........don't confuse him with Angulo man. Why hasn't Lara fought Trout yet, he ducking?
If he beats Mayweather he is huge and all he has to do to stay huge is to keep winning. I think he can do that.Canelo is a better, gamer, tougher and smarter fighter than Lara in my opinion. People said he would duck Trout but he didn't. He won't duck Lara either. Lara is inconsistant. Sometimes he looks great but in other fights he does not looks so good. Sometimes Lara does not fight as hard as he should. He needed 12 rounds to beat a guy Berto KOed in the first round with one punch.Angulo knocked him down and I think Canelo would knock him out.Canelo may very well have stopped growing and he may stay at 154 the rest of his career. He said he has no trouble making 154 and plans to stay there unless he naturally outgrows that weight in which case he would go to 160. If he grows into a natural middleweight then he would have added power to compete there. Middleweights is only a nightmare because GGG fights there. I don't think Canelo or anyone else can beat GGG.I don't see why Canelo could not beat the rest of the 160 pounders if he grows into that weight.I have lots of faith in Canelo and in five days I will find out if I am right about him.I think Oscar will keep him away from GGG and maybe GGG will go to 168 to fight Ward and Canelo will be safe from him.
I keep hearing about Lara. Schaefer will never put a boring, defensive fighter against his cash cow. The risk is too great for any promoter to take. Lara wins and GBP will have a hard time selling his fights. It's bad business.
I completely agree.. This is actually a win win for Canelo and Floyd because the financial reward, and risk taken by both fighters makes a defeat for either not the end of the world. Aside from the big money aspects of this big fight nobody but Floyd haters wanted to see Canelo fight Floyd,(thinking he's much bigger than Floyd so should hurt him) with the very pacified road Canelo took and his one and ONLY one legit fight with Trout, (overrated for beating a washed up Cotto)..
.Most of us want to see Nelo fight real middleweights, GGG Quillen Martinez and so on..At the same time Floyd leaving the game will open up room for a new king after the new bloods mix it up and make it exciting so to be honest I love Floyd but him leaving will only be good, and Nelo winning means he will HAVE to fight in his true weight class, where we will see if he truly has the goods.....
Who said I was obsessed with Lara? I'm just pointing out the fact that Canelo's potential to be boxing's biggest star might not even last that long. People just assume once he beats Floyd, Canelo's automatically taking the throne.
How are you gonna sit on the throne when there are guys out there that can very well beat you?
Well if Canelo wins, he isn't going to be P4P the best fighter in the world. Canelo would be beating a smaller man. His appeal will be cashcow status, not being the best boxer in the world..

Are you retarded?
Its not a foregone conclusion he would lose to Lara....if he beats Floyd Mayweather's style he would have a chance at Lara
But if he beats floyd he isnt fighting Lara ever anyway.
im not sure what point you are trying to make. if you think he is overrated, perhaps there are better ways to say it...but its harder to prove that when the scenario is based on him beating the best fighter in the world
No one said it was a foregone conclusion. How many posts have I replied with, "it's a very realistic possibility"?
Also, no one's saying Canelo is overrated. Losing to Lara/GGG/Quillen/Sergio doesn't mean you're overrated. It means you're not the best of the best.
In terms of Canelo being called "boxing's new king", then of course that would be overrating him.
He'd be the king for beating up Floyd. Bigger guys like Lara/GGG/Sergio would be harder for him. For Floyd as well.
Well, obviously, but losing to Lara in your very next fight, if they go that route, isn't gonna leave a good impression with fans that think you're the new "Don" of boxing.
They'll just say, "yeah, he beat Floyd, but honestly, this dude's really not that great."

Lara CAN beat Canelo, and that's a very realistic possibility. So, Canelo beats Floyd, then loses to Lara, now what? He rematches Lara, and loses again, not good.
GGG's not even a problem, that's a guaranteed ass whooping for GGG.
You're about 3 steps ahead of the current situation, I personally think he moves up unless it's a close fight and rematches at 154 vs Mayweather
What does Sergio do better than Canelo? Is he faster? Nope, better reflexes? Nope, better defence? Nope, more accurate? Nope, he just has better stamina.
Better boxer?? Yes, Better footwork, Slick yes...more power?? as good as Canelo's power is, HELL YES!!
Sergio Martinez by a KO, I'd give Canelo 4-5 rounds...those heavy power punches with a low stamina of Canelo??? = KO For Martinez.
GGG Ko's Canelo as well, Lara Outboxes him
Worthy or not he will definitively be the new boxing superstar if he beats Floyd...which he wont. But if he did its a foregone conclusion. He will be perceived as the new Don of boxing. There is no getting around that.

You are right, to me he's like Broner, no choice but to lose sooner or later...
And Lara, a rematch against Trout and other guys, I dont see his reign lasting very long.
Exactly. I don't understand this backlash? I'm just pointing out the obvious.
Calm down. I'm not saying if he loses, he's a bum. I'm saying, pump the brakes on the "Canelo is the new boxing superstar" talks.
Imagine if he gets caught by Lara and loses by KO/TKO. People will start saying, "ya see, I've always said Lara would beat a guy like Canelo!"
I'm just here to remind you guys that Canelo has other fish to fry, even if he beats Floyd.

Yeah, you're right, you've figured it all out...Canelo should just retire now and find a new profession.

Lol, I like how no one mentions Martinez.
You are crazy to think that he would beat the LINEAL MW champ which is Sergio Martinez Canelo would eat HARD FLUSH Counter punches all night, and not the ones he will take from Mayweather.
Trust me, I was thinking of Sergio as well, but didn't want to hear the usual, "did you see how Sergio looked in his last fight!?"
But yeah, Sergio is another guy that could beat Canelo, barring any major physical setbacks.

What is the Lara obsession about?
