Give or take a round, these scores suggest we could've been in draw or split decision territory.
Kevin Iole, Yahoo! Sports: 115-113 Mayweather
Jake Emen, ProBoxing-Fans.com: 115-113 Mayweather
John Chavez, Boxing Truth: 115-113 Mayweather
Kevin Mitchell, The Guardian (UK): 116-113 Mayweather
Lance Pugmire, Los Angeles Times: 115-113 Cotto
Suge Green, On The Grind Boxing Radio: 114-114 Draw
Kellerman, Rafael & Fischer scored it 116-112 Mayweather
But having just rewatched the fight, and as a Cotto fan, I think this fight showed how much he's deteriorated. He boxed very well in some rounds, and there's an argument for him to get the nod for 4, or maybe 5 rounds. But Mayweather's clean punching was nice.
"You're a helluva champion. You're the toughest guy I ever fought." Floyd Mayweather Jr. to Cotto following the bout.
So who wins? MAYWEATHER-COTTO circa 2007-2008 at 147lbs?
I think a prime Cotto, circa 2007-2008 would've been able to make a fight against Floyd go into draw or split decision territory.
I'd take a prime Cotto over Mayweather - fan of both.
When did I ever deny Canelo's stamina issues? When did I ever deny Canelo's inexperience? When have I ever not said that Canelo's record is padded? When have I ever praised Canelo's win over Trout? YOU are the people who begged for this fight and then made all the excuses in the book when Floyd took the fight! Before it was "Floyd's scared of Canelo", "Floyd will never fight Canelo", now it's "Floyd only fought him because he's inexperienced", "Floyd only fought him because he has bad stamina", "Catchweight, Catchweight, Catchweight". Yes, you sound like a woman. Excuse after Excuse! Did you or did you not want this fight to happen? I'll answer for you, yes you did! Are you or are you not making excuses now that the fight is getting closer and reality is set in that you had blind faith and the possibility of Canelo winning is getting slimmer and slimmer by day? Yes! You and every other Floyd hater begged for this fight, you got it now, so get your tampon, wipe yourself and deal with it because you asked for it.
So you agree about Canelo's weaknesses.
You are wrong, I said way before the fight was signed that Canelo needs more time and shouldn't fight Floyd this year.
Also, people were criticizing at Floyd's team for not wanting the fight unless Canelo dropped down in weight. This eventually became a FACT!
Some Floyd fans are funny. They all point to the weaknesses of Floyd's opponent then they come back and say "excuses, excuses ..." when all we are saying is what you were saying before the fight was even signed ..... but Floyd fans contradict themselves because on the one hand they want people to say that Floyd fought a real threat but on the other hand they say Floyd will convincingly beat that hype.
Did you change your name yet?
Like I said already. COTTO wouldn't land a shot on prime Floyd.
ok, believe what you want,,,
but all evidence suggests otherwise,,,
what does corley and augustus and zab all do better that they were to land shots on floyd early, but a guy like cotto who stopped corley and zab wouldnt be able to land anything,,,,
Cotto would land some shots, but floyd would counter him to death and win the fight
I dont see how hard that is to understand
When did Floyd say that? Exactly, he never did, so it's all speculation. And it's also for people like you to use as an excuse once Floyd beats him, "Oh, he only beat him because he fought him early on". Does anyone say that about Margarito's win over Sergio, no, because people love Tony for whatever reason and it's easy to hate Floyd, I get it. I find it hilarious how Floyd haters want Floyd to wait on other fighters and whenever a fight didn't happen, it's his fault. He either fought em too early, fought em too late, or fought em too small, excuses excuses excuse excuses excuses excuses excuses. Y'all sound like little girls.
Like the other guy said the other day, you should change your name to "The Biased"
Yes, many people have said that Margarito beat a young greener version of Sergio.
So the ring magazine expert sounds like a littler girl to you? Again, it's someone's opinion that you don't like. No problem there but no point in calling them little girls.
While Floyd and his team didn't come straight out and say it, just go check out some interviews. Ellerbe said that Canelo is too inexperienced, flat-footed to beat Floyd. Ellerbe said, "We know that Canelo has lot's of weakness and I approved Floyd taking on Canelo".
Team Floyd all are saying the above. heck they are not even shy about saying that "I hope Canelo moves around in the ring because that will tire him out due to his bad stamina issues"
prime floyd got hit by:
augustus
JLC
corley
judah
oscar
so yes i think cotto would be able to hit floyd,,,, not saying he would beat floyd, but cotto would be able to land some shots,,,,
Like I said already. COTTO wouldn't land a shot on prime Floyd.
Prime Cotto doesn't lay a glove on prime Mayweather.

truer words have never been spoken. prime floyd would never fight him. he just lives too far away!
Oh excuses excuses excuses. Everytime it comes to Mosley, De La Hoya, Cotto or Pacquiao all you hear is excuses. When Floyd offered the fight to them, it was ok for them to walk away. but when they want to fight, Floyd has to do what they say because they're ready now. Whatever.
Getting all defensive buddy .... Just correcting him with the truth.
Floyd did it with Canelo too and wanted him even earlier .... but like you said, must be an excuse, right? I guess this guy to is making excuses?
at 40 sec mark:
"Floyd wants Canelo before he improves even more.... Floyd wants to catch him when he is still a bit green"

Woulda been great fight to see after Cotto beat Mosley and Zabh Judah , a guy that gave Mayweather a few good rounds before...Also cotto that was still undefeted before margrito.
But if an older mayweather beat an older cotto..the younger mayweather still may have been too quick and slick
each person has their own opinion but these scores are outliers.
Cotto's people turned down the fight back then. If you don't think that suggests who would win then there isn't much else to be said.
It was actually the other way around:

When Cotto was greener and at 140, that is when Floyd was licking his chops .... but we all knew that Cotto needed more time.
We would know the answer to this if Floyd wouldn't have faked a retirement to avoid the welterweight division in 2007 and 2008.
Cotto said himself he wasn't ready for Mayweather when the fans were calling for it.
I got Mayweather by 116-112 if we are talking about the Cotto before the first Margarito fight.
I didn't know people still scored even rounds? I have little to no respect for that.
I agree, pick a winner. Unless it's TRULY even, then there is a winner in every round. 12th round of Cotto-Mosley was close, but not even.
A prime floyd beats prime cotto,,
would always be a close fight, but floyd got too many tools at his disposal and cotto prime or not, has always been easy to hit....
floyd wins an action fight if this happened 05-08
Any Era! Any Weight Class! Mayweather Dominates Cotto REGARDLESS!
Not disrespect to Cotto he is always a guy I liked and rooted for but COME ON, during this Mayweather's ERA when it comes to SKILLS he has been and still is Head And Shoulders Above The Rest
I know it hurts his haters and it is frustrating that they been looking for someone to come along and knock him off and the fact that it hasn't came close to happening really makes them hate him even more but...
YOU CANNOT DENY THE SKILLS!
