*Sneers*
Khan will unify the titles with Morales if Morales wins the WBC, Khan is allowed one fight before making a mandatory defence. Peterson wont get a dime from Khan and rightfully so! It irritates the hell out of me seeing boxers trying to benefit from Khans name and the money he brings, Khan has earned his spot.
No handout or blank cheque for Peterson.
Khan benefitted from the name of Barrera. Whats your point? Guys like me want to see the best fights and not ***** about politics.
Peterson is a stiff opponent, simple as that.
Bradley beat a hot Peterson, Holt, Alexander + a few others. I think he put in more work. Id favor those guys to beat Khns opponents. I think Timmy has some Hopkins in him, and will show Khan whats up
Looking at his Zabs resume, he will have a fight against a bum and then have another title shot...Judah/Bradley next.
Tim beats him silly for 12 rounds. Zab stops trying after 7.
I'm surprised about Bert Sugar. He partied with a group of us for hours in vegas once. He was talking **** and having a blast just like one of the guys.
if you can say it was a competitively close fight, then its not a robbery...however, Lucas did win that fight...THAT much was clear
My thoughts as well.
I'm not sure what to make of Devon. I think he has all the tools, but something is missing between the ears. Maybe a confidence issue.
Of course Ortiz has a chance. In and out of the ring. We've been looking for him and Rios to step up out west. Marquez is getting old and Margo lost to Shane. Margarito was lined up to pull in the LA crowd. But faltered.
We always have someone to fill up a spot.
We have plenty of good boxers ready to get t on
He needs to be himself, the perfect foil to Manny. I dont agree that he has improved since Marquez 2, nor has Juan. I expect nothing less then a great fight that can go either way, similar to the 1st 2 fights. I had Marquez (by 1 and 3)
The weight may very well be an issue, but I dont care. JMM deserves another fight with Manny after winning at least 2/3rds of their shared rounds.
From a fans perspective, Im not sure I agree with the body of the article. Its almost a joke.
Margarito and Cotto, not that I wasn't calling for those bouts 4 years ago, but they are almost poinless at this point. Neither have been the same since their fight in 08 and I'd rather see them rematch, then be caught up in May and Manny's one upping of each other and flat out ego trippin.
Staight up, Floyd isn't as dumb as he appears, and no way is he going to ruin the biggest payday in boxing history by tangling with Williams or Martinez at this point. Personally I love these fights and am interested in seeing what happens with Williams and Lara after their scrap soon.
Ortiz is riding high right now and will bring fans to the fight(not Margarito numbers but good enough), is young, strong and fast. And, wont be able to get out of the way of the counter right. It makes for a compelling fight. I dont understand the hate.
Mikes best fights
Buster
Razor 1
Holy 1
Tucker
White Buffalo
How can someone be so over and underrated at once?
Too bad he didnt fight none of the great group of early 90s heavies, like Foreman, Moorer, Mercer, Morrison, we all know what happened against the guys at the top. He wouldve made for great fights with Tua, Ike, Ruiz, Byrd, and Rahman as well. Of all boxing legends, Tyson has teh most shallow pedigree.
This was when there were only single champions in each division, they were all great champions and, I believe there has never been another like it.
Azumah was always 1st or 2nd up on those cards. They were loaded compared to today. All of King's undercard guys would be headliners now. Ricardo Lopez defending his titles at 6pm pacific time, will never happen again.
Btw- The big 3 were all fractured by then but not to the point it is now. The term undiputed has been around for awhile.
Devon Alexander is far from done, and he wasnt as highly touted as some of the others. Lets give him another shot. Id bet on him over Zab who's had several chances.
Taylor wasnt a bust, he had a good career, and I still think he can win fights if his head is in it. HBO may have jumped the gun a bit with him. As much as we critisized his comp, he has a long list of names/and people at their peak.
The Don King cards of the early 90's were usually pretty stacked.
Example
Chavez/Randall
McClellan/Jackson
Norris/Brown
Nelson/Leija
Thats the equivalent of
Ward/Froch
Mares/Agbeko
Cotto/Margarito
Soto/Rios
Think about it. When Azumah Nelson is 1st or 2nd fight into a 4 or 5 fight event, against top level opponents, you're on to something good.
Or maybe just have open scoring at the end of each round because you know shady sh!t is going down when they take long to "collect" the scorecards.
Anyway it shouldn't be a surprise to you who won if you watched the fight and scored it properly.
Open scoring is horrible. It killed what was on its way to becoming fight of the year material in Bell/Mormeck 2, after revealing the score at the end of the 8th. Without open scoring, Mormeck may have to hold his ground a bit longer and its possible the same thing happens as in the first fight. The 1st 8 rounds were damn good.
Btw- both fights have become pretty underated.
I'm absolutely all for putting a judge that has made a horrendous decision on live television and asking them what the hell they were thinking. These incompetent and corrupt judges need to be put on the spot.
Really? I'd rather stick my head in a microwave then listen to Chuck Giampa bumble his way through why he thought Montiel's ring generalship was more effective than Arce's effective aggression. It would be a waste of time. Wouldn't you rather see undercard highlights or maybe a thoughtful preview of upcoming fights? Cool thing about boxing is you dont have to agree with the official decision and are free to make up your own mind.
Can anyone think of a bad decision that really effected the loser in a negative way? Not that it hasn't happened, but I cant think of any off the top of my head. There has to be cases when a fighter gets screwed on the cards via homecooking, then never gets a crack at a world class fighter again.
I dont see either one being a real ppv draw, if ppv draw means having people other than hardcore fans and west coast paisanos buy the fights. If we're talking DLH numbers than no, I dont think so.
Theyre both entertaining so I can see them pulling in buyers though. Among casual fans you pretty much have to say "The red headed Mexican" to get a response outside of his followers and thats only if they happened to even watch the May/Mosley undercard.
Probably be an even fight before Alexander wins the last few rounds to take a ud. I have the feeling we havent seen the last of Devon.
The common thing about Kotelnik, Bradley, and Lucas is that they are tougher than Devon. Judah just thinks he is.
For some reason I feel there are many similarities between the 2. Good and bad.
Imo they need to stack the undercard if its gonna be ppv. If they are shooting for 450,000-500,000 US buys, which I believe is in the neighborhood of the Hopkins/Taylor fights.
Hopkins vs Bad Chad
Pascal vs Glencoffe or Cleverly (Steve Kim is saying Erdei or Shumenov)besides Erdei/Andrade I dont think Ive seen much of either. Obviously Im pulling for Pascal/Cloud but Im just throwing out names.
Holt vs Mattysse
Lemieux vs Karmazin/McEwan (Might be a bit much for a comeback but would be entertaining)or Ouma
Thats a card every fan should get behind
Its hard to say. I think he is in a cant lose situation. He can line up good matches with anyone from 135-147 with King. Thw problem is that is I think he is a b side now and teh Top Rank and Golden Boy guys can dodge him now.
He may not be the best, but gives everyone a test. He will be the same as hes been latley, or surprise us later.
Yea, i agree with the soto thing, but matthysse would have been good enough in my eyes. Bradley needs to gdt back in the ring as soon as he can.
Personally, im not a fan of bradley-soto but ill watch it. I think soto's slowijg down in a big way and cant fuk with bradley at all.
I didnt see Sotos fight this last weekend but he was sharp against Antillon(watched live in a box suite at The Ponda Center with Antillon fans)and in the rematch against the S. American guy that gave him trouble last fall.
What have you seen in his last 4 fights that make you think hes slipping? I didnt think he looked great in the 1st fight against the S. American but besides that, was fine up untill this weekend, which I havent seen. If anything I think fighting 5 times within a year will be helpfull even though he has had only had 1 high profile bout among them. It would've worked wonders for a guy like Bradley or PWill/
he got hit A lot by Antillon in the second part of that fight, plus his firel fight vs fidel was close for no reason...
I"ve thought humberto was sliding a bit since he fought the frenchman under ricky-pac. he hasn't stopped anyone since 130 so you have his lack of power problem at 135 translating into a bigger problem with an iron chinned dude like bradley. he has stayed busy, which he has to do, but I can't get over his fights with plodders like chavez and diaz where I didn;t think he looked all that fast
I think Soto has always fought just a little over the level of his opponents.I wouldnt pick him over Bradley but think he is game against the lightweights and a few of the jwws. I doubt anyone is blowing him out.
Not that I thought he was a p4p fighter. Its just that conventional wisdom has the S6 winner facing him which I feel is rediculous. Its almost like hes getting a free pass to fight Ward or Froch without going through the guantlet that was the tourney. He was basiclly slotted in the 2 spot halfway through group stage 2, by beating Librado and Miranda.
I think Bute is way overrated.(Miranda & Andrade wins dont make you lb 4 lb)
Froch and Ward are P4P worthy and should be ranked higher. I think Kessler, Direll, Abraham , and Johnson are on Butes level.
Honestly, I wouldnt be mad at a Bute/Taylor fight.
You know what. I dig the fight with Maidana and afterwards the winner against Bradley would be great as well. But, 135 has fights to offer that could've been good too. I wouldn't have minded him staying at 135 for a minute. I think its a good weight for him, 140 will be as well.
Im trippin out on you guys claiming "so and so" dosent have a big enough fan base. Ortiz, Mosley, and Clottey have all been B sides on recent highly successful PPVs. Hype the fight enough and casual fans will buy it.
I'd still like to see Ghost/Madaina soon. 140 is the goods.
He didnt claim Marquez was washed up. He said "Marquez is out of his prime" and the media wants you to believe Manny has improved," 2 valid points imo.
