Couldn't have put it any better. Power is always a great thing, if the fighter can't stay disciplined that's not a problem you blame on the power.
I don't know if you guys read my post, but I did mention that power is def a plus if you're disciplined and don't get carried away with it.
Power isn't a double edged sword as the weakness doesn't lie in the powerful punch but the fighter's mental state.
True. But that mental state comes from somewhere. In this case, from relying too much on power.
The hell is this about? You posted in the wrong section also, it belongs in T&N.
k sorry.
Bumping this thread.
I wanted to bring this thread back up because of what I saw on Saturday night. Donaire, who I believe can be very crafty and technical, seems like he's been solely relying on his knockout power. Like I said before, power is good to have if you're disciplined with it, but a lot of fighters, when they reach a certain point in their knockout ratios, tend to rely just on power. In fact, relying solely on anything is bad. For instance, like the guy said before me, Amir Khan relies solely on his speed. But I've been seeing more of this pattern with fighters with power.
Course..
My point was sometimes people get lucky with one punch...
Garcia punch could have just been that
Until he gets back in the ring with khan he'll just be another prescott to me
No such thing as lucky punch in boxing. If you threw it, then you meant to throw it.
Lucky in the sense it actually landed...
Like I said before...timing. Not lucky. Danny's left hook is the last thing I would call lucky. It's rare to get a lucky punch twice with the same punch... consecutively. When he throws it, he wants to knock you out with it. In another words, he throws it with conviction. Not throwing punches everywhere and one happens to land luckily.
Lol at people bigging up garcia left hook as if its one of the greatest quickest punch ever!
He's slow as anything..,
Its never gna land in a rematch
I understand that you are a Khan fan. I'm not going to knock you for that. You are free to support who you like. But you are trying to convince everyone that Khan is an elite fighter. Or at least better than Danny Garcia. And at this point in his career, it is very hard for us to believe that. To a normal person, saying "Khan is one of the best" would be weird.
Khan's speed has always impressed me, but you can't just get by with speed. Not in boxing. Speed is just one aspect of the sport. I mentioned this in other threads, but I believe timing will always beat speed. Fighters with great speed will probably win the first 3 or 4 rounds almost all the time. But once the fighter with the good timing gets used to the speed, he will time his punches accordingly. For example, Pacquiao's speed posed a threat to Marquez for the first half of the fight until Marquez landed the perfectly timed straight. Judah's speed posed a threat to Mayweather for the first 4 rounds until Mayweather got used to the speed and started timing him.
I think the first thing Khan needs to do is understand his weakness. He has a weak chin. That is clear as day. I won't knock Khan for having a weak chin. Some people are born with a good chin and some people just aren't. You can't blame a person for being born a certain way. But he needs to understand his weakness. If you have a weak chin, then improve your defense so you don't get hit there. Don't throw so many punches greedily and leave your chin open for so long. Be patient and don't go for the knockout or it won't come. Don't be fast with combinations, but be quick with one or two punches so you can instantly bring the gloves back to your face. The good fighters aren't the ones with good chins. The good fighters will never let you know. Unfortunately for Khan, the world knows. To be honest, I think it's too late for Khan to be considered an elite, unless he changes up his whole style. And I think it's too late for that. It's hard to remove yourself from the style you've been working with your whole life. I always thought it was Freddie Roach's no defense pattern, but he showed the same vulnerability with Virgil. To the TS, I don't know man. You say he's only 26, but 26 is a little too old to learn a whole new style of fighting. Especially when boxers are considered old at mid-thirties.
You're a Khan fan so I understand that you are going to support your fighter, but scientifically, or logically, it's kind of hard for the rest of us to vote for Khan.
Floyd over Hopkins and both a good deal over JMM. Juan is smart but lets be real. Ive seen him get hit with the same punch over & over again and not be able to adjust.
Just because Floyd is a fast and a great athlete doesnt mean he should be penalyzed when it comes to smart. No one makes better in ring adjustments. Hopkins is great at executing a game plan. Floyd can have a game plan, its not working, and then change on the fly to something else without any hesitation.
In every Hopkins fight its pretty much the same from start to finish weather it be good or bad but there have been a number of Floyd fights where he was behind or even with a guy and then changes plans or adjust and takes over
I'm going to have to agree with this. As much as I love BHop. I don't see his ring IQ being better than Floyds. Floyd has speed and athleticism, but I never let those overshadow his ring IQ. It's just when it comes to ring IQ's, BHops is more noticeable, simply because he doesn't have the speed, power and great athleticism. All he has is good fundamentals and good ring IQ.
I used to watch wrestling when I was 12. Now I just go on youtube, look up funny sh*t the Rock says and that's about it. CM Punk is also pretty cool since his promos aren't scripted and he calls out politics.
I used to watch MMA a lot. But these days, I don't really care for it. I am excited for tomorrow's fight though. GSP vs Nick Diaz. Nick Diaz is the thing exciting for me in MMA. GSP is cool but his fights are pretty boring these days. He'll have moments though like his last fight against Condit. Anderson Silva is just invincible, so the intrigue really isn't there when he fights. Jon Jones just defeated all the old guys still lingering around the light heavyweight division, which is pretty wack. I don't care for the GSP vs Silva fight. I think Silva will kill GSP and I don't know how this fight is still the fight that everyone wants to see as if we don't know whose going to win. I think the mega fight should be Anderson Silva vs Jon Jones. The thing I like about UFC is that there is one champ per division and the best fight the best.
Shots fired. If this was really Andre Ward who said this, props to him. Good sh-t, call him out and corner him, I want to see how Floyd reacts to this. Probably some sh-t like "Has he ever been on PPV? Why is he still fighting on HBO WCB if he's so good? Can he sell tickets outside of Oakland?"
Floyd will duck Andre Ward if he's serious about coming down to 160.
...are you serious?
Because i'm going against Floyd for the first time? You want me to forever, in every situation lick Floyd's balls like yourself? GTFOH.
Floyd talked MAD sh-t about Andre Ward, he did not deserve all of that, just for rooting for his boy. Andre Ward is coming down to the most realistic weight class possible that a SMW-LHW can get down to, to make a fight with a JMW or MW.
Floyd has said it himself, size does not matter, skills pay bills.
I don't like that unwarranted sh-t talking Floyd did on Ward. It is relieving tome that Ward is defending himself publicly and basically offering up the most realistic thing he could do to make a Floyd fight.
Keep on licking son.
I remember you as a Floyd fan. But I believe your sudden outburst against Floyd started when Floyd said "that red headed freckle faced ass better wait in line." I don't think this has anything to do with Ward at all.
Im not reading seven pages but I expect them to be filled with posters calling Ward a cherry pick.
Right?
Nope, they are actually calling Floyd a ducker if he don't fight Ward.
how old was Marquez when he jumped up 2 weight classes to face the ATG Floyd Mayweather? :lol1:
Floyd can't do it tho..
And look what happened to Marquez.
but it's one of Floyd's best wins though.....?
I never thought of it as Floyd's best win. In fact, I don't think anyone said it was Floyd's best win. They just said, the win was more justified after Pac got knocked out. I think majority of the people including myself think Corrales was his best win.
To be honest, I believe Floyd is too small for 154 division, despite the Cotto win. Floyd is a 147 fighter. Yes he fought at 154 twice. I don't think he should fight at 154 at all. But if he wants to, its up to him. When Floyd fights at 154, I think of it as a bonus, not an expectation. I can't believe that there are actually people who are expecting Floyd to fight at 160, not against anyone, but Andre Ward. Come on, man. You serious? Skills pay bills. Not size. Some people take this phrase way too literally. If I took that phrase literally, I would believe that Donaire can beat the Klitchkos. You can't talk about "weight classes exists for a reason" then talk about "Skills pay bills. Not size."
Can Martinez make 154 healthily? I don't think so. I mean he hasn't been fighting at 154 for a while. And plus the fact that he's 40 years old. Scientifically, I think it's going to be hard for him to cut weight at that age healthily. It's going to be harder for him to cut weight. Yeah sure, Sergio says he can make the weight easily. Fighters say a lot of things. I don't even know if Sergio knows he can make that weight easily. Unless he's tried it in between fights. My point is, I'd have to say Martinez can't make the weight healthily according to logic and science rather than what he says.
I do see the thread starters point. I mean, logically speaking, in what kind of world are we supposed to believe that Amir Khan is ranked #2 in WW? Let alone JWW. Chavez loses to Martinez, gets caught with illegal supplements...twice. And will probably fight Andre Ward. Margarito loses to Mosley...no. Gets knocked out by Mosley, gets caught cheating, then one fight later against a nobody gets a Pacquiao fight. Cotto who loses to Trout, is somehow a consideration to fight Canelo. Not saying that won't be a good fight. Styles make fights, but what I'm trying to say is, there should be consequences for losing. Just like how there is a consequence for Trout because he lost to Canelo. He will actually be set back a lot from that one loss. Where as someone like Amir Khan, it doesn't matter how much times this guy loses, he will automatically be back on top after one fight.
All Access and 24/7 are pretty much exactly the same to me. The only difference between the two is the narrator. With that said, I think 24/7 is better because of the narrator. And 24/7 intro is just so much more epic. "From the Philippines, to the UK, to Las Vegas. This is 24/7." Then the beat kicks in for the opening intro. The endings are also better too.
By the way, I'm a Mayweather guy. It has nothing to do with which show I like better. Don't be stupid.
that fight didn't have 24/7
Pac and Clottey didn't have a 24/7?? I swear I was watching episodes of it. It showed Clottey's old neighborhood in Ghana. It explained how they were either fishermen or a fighter in their town. And I remember a scene of Clottey talking about his daughter who was at Ghana while he is training in New York.
Edit...
K Nevermind. I just looked it up on youtube. It was called Road to Dallas. But wow. Really? It's like the same thing.
Nick's movement is too linear. He moves in a straight line. He should learn some lateral movements. Condit was able to circle around him easily every time his back was nearing the fence.
Nah bob is probably one of the best persons in the business for real. Dont let the media fool you and lie to you he is one of the kindest men in the business and model to many. I had chance to shake his hand at the clottey event promo and he was really nice to me. I love bob for real.
Lol. Of course he's going to appear like a kind person. Key word, appear. All corrupt people tries to hide the fact that they are corrupt. It's called manipulation. I see it works quite well with you.
Damn we all think Bob Arum is a scum bag but this makes this guy look like a scum bag too.
Can't blame him. I mean, Arum is trying to get his Ariza fired. You just don't mess with another person's income or his ability to put food on his family's table. You just don't do that. Arum is legitimately evil.
He already got his getbacks when he punched Koncz in the face Alex can get himself fired.
If Arum doesn't care about Pacquiao's well being, I'm pretty sure Arum doesn't care about Koncz well being. I don't see Arum being too concerned at the thought of Koncz getting rocked. And I also don't see Pacquiao firing anyone. But who knows, Arum might get Pacquiao to do it some how. That's no reason to lay down for Arum though. Shouldn't give Arum control like that. If he gets fired along the way, at least he stood his ground.
