He will be representing our sport and trust me, MMA fans will NEVER let boxing fans forget it if Anderson wins and trust me, that's a strong fair possibility given Roy's decline and Anderson being in his prime.
ITs a no win situation for Roy and Boxing. IF he wins, he was supposed to win. He he loses, well .....
Would much prefer to see Anderson fight David Haye or Chad Dawson
You are Anderson Silva, aren't you?
and you know this how? Some people are more comfortable on top than on the ground. Against a pro boxer, of course an MMA'r would have a better chance on teh ground, where a boxer would have ZERO chance.
But to say everything just will go back to the ground again is just an unproven blanket statement.
There was a time when it was all ground, when the gracie's caught everyone off gaurd and introduced it to everyone. The sport has evolved since then and everyone is experienced on the ground, at least to escape and hold their own. Big reason why Gracie's arent as dominant as they once were, everyone adapted to them.
I dont see how evolving hurts them, whereas you say, "boxing With boxing, you know what you have and it's still on top". Im not sure that statement supports MMA. One sport is evolving and getting bigger, and the other staying stagnant.
Boxing fans are getting insecure about MMA, and Im a boxing fan who doesnt feel that way. I dont see any reason to down MMA.
Never said boxer vs an MMA'er. I said as the sport evolves. At first it was a crap shoot, it evolved into BJJ dominating, then wrestlers dominating. Now it's turning into a stand up game. More and more MMA'er are trying to learn boxing. Far more then a few years ago. They are looking for an advantage over the next guy and soon, they will all be comparable with each other at boxing. The next step will be to take the boxer down back to the ground and things will have become full circle.
MMA is evolving into different aspects, but that doesn't mean it's becoming a better product. The fighters are getting better, but as usually goes, styles make fights and when you have two similarly talented fighters who fight with the same similar style, you get boring fights.
MMA has peaked. It will never get more exciting then it is now. The fans can care less that Silva knocking out Forest was anything less then technical bliss. All they care about is that dude got stretched flat and ran out the ring like a wuss. MMA fans in general, applaud mediocrity when it comes to boxing, boxing fans do not.
I am an MMA fan. I love the fact that there is something else to watch when there isn't any good boxing on or football isn't in season. Still, nothing comes close to the anticipation of a good boxing match.
I respect MMA fighters and their abilities, but the product as a whole is more hype then anything else. Exciting MMA fights are too far and in between. Definitely not enough of them to kill boxing.
MMA Evolution = Jacks of all trades, Masters of none.
Is there anyone that was impressed by UFC101? The product will kill the hype if they are not careful. Combine that with drastically underpaid fighters (or overpaid in boxing) and its time is limited. UFC has peaked. It's biggest names are fighters who haven't been in the game very long. Lesnar - Kimbo would break all kinds of UFC records and that's just sad.
Don't use your son to live your dream. If you have watched the sport of boxing as long as you say you have, then you'd know that it is a very cruel sport to be in. If your son wants to do it on his own, support him but understand the dangers that are involved. It's your job as a parent to guide him, not to use him.
MMA is still a relatively new sport. How could fighters like Silva, Machida, etc have bred since birth. Everyone now came from varying martial arts, and is adapting into MMA. 20 years from now you'll have fighters being trained straight into MMA as a teen. More skilled, maybe. But for now, the sport itself is very young. Im sure there was a time when boxing was only 15 years old.
Yes and as the fighters become more skilled in boxing, the sport will evolve back on to the ground. No way guys are gonna wanna stand and trade with a pro quality boxer even if they themselves are a pro quality boxer. Things will go back to the ground and become borderline boring to watch.
Just as you said, the sport is relatively new and still evolving. What you see now, isn't what you'll see later. With boxing, you know what you have and it's still on top.
He goes to the body good. Other than that....... nothing!
I think it's a prerequisite that if you have "PAC" in your name, your boxing logic ends before it begins.
WTF???? Can someone explain this guy to me...Im lost for words!!!:lame:
I'm sure there is a lot that can't be explained to you. Maybe you'll get it when you're an adult.
MMA is evolving into boxing as we speak. It will take years and years for that to happen, though. I've watched the sport since it hit the scene and it was clear from the outset that those with a strong wrestling background would soon dominate once they learned to defend against BJJ.
Now wrestling with BJJ skills isn't enough. Everyone wants to stand and fight. Nobody wants to go to the ground and when they do, fights rarely end in any BJJ move other then a guillotine or rear naked choke. BJJ is a very deep sport itself, but not one that most people want to watch.
People want to see knockouts and they can care less if there is a technique behind it. MMA fighters rarely fight in "space" so most boxing principles are useless. The only thing making MMA even comparable to boxing at this point is about 6 oz of padding.
Let a boxing match between two superstars happen with 4 oz gloves and you'll see sheer and utter brutality.
Hard to compare Pac to the ATG's. Now there's what, 18 weight classes and Pac is trying to add more for his own benefit? If he wants to be compared to the ATG's, he needs to fight within the existing weight classes just as they did.
MMA fighters aren't written off after a loss because in MMA any fighter can lose by one lucky punch at any time regardless of the skill level. Most of the "exciting" MMA fights are when guys stand up and trade. Which as a boxing fan is almost gutwrenching to watch. The boxing skill level is so far behind it's not funny.
Being that any fighter can get blasted out at any given time, there will never be that same feeling of dramatics caused by two great boxers finally clashing. The build up to a big boxing match is far more exciting then that of an MMA card.
And i love MMA. I don't find much skill in their amatuerish punching abilities but i do enjoy watching the chess match of jiu jitsu.
To clear up the question of what's more exciting, imagine professional boxers wearing 4 oz gloves. Talk about brutality!
Thank god. Hopefully HBO will learn not to hype these shitty fighters anymore. They are so afraid of missing out on the next Tyson or De La Hoya that they are signing all these chumps to long contracts. Thank god the fat eyebrow shaping blob gets KTFO, finally!
Nothing bad to say about Richardson, but it's always easier for a cornerman when everything is going their fighters way. Also, i doubt Bernard even heard a word he was saying. Bernard is untrainable at this point of his career. It's more important to listen to a cornerman when their fighter is down.
It is possible that Arturo hung himself from those pictures. He could have jumped off the staircase. Doing so would have caused him to snap backwards into the stairs and could have caused damaged to the back of his head.
The rock throwing thing sounds far fetched. Are there witnesses or was anyone arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on Gatti? Wouldn't a loving wife have them arrested due to the fact that rocks thrown at the head could have caused serious damage?
The place where the body is located makes sense as to why she didn't see him for so many hours. (from what i can see)
Her complete lack of remorse shows she should rot in hell, but as stated above, it doesn't mean she did it. (Although, it's likely she could have)
Nate Campbell should realize he is a 5 loss fighter going against an undefeated star in the making and he is going to catch no breaks. When a chance like the fight against Bradley comes up you don't just give in expecting the no contest, even if you are right. You have to EARN superstardom, not expect it to be given to you.
Earn your stardom? You mean like being the 3 belt lightweight champion of the world? Nate went to Mexico to a bull ring and took Juan's belts back home with him. Nate also fought his ass off against one badass dude in Ali Funeka when he had absolutely NOTHING to gain. If Nate was a quitter, the Funeka fight was his perfect opportunity. He had already lost his belts on the scales and instead of bitching out, he fought.
He knew that right away huh?
LOL...
I guess Nate is a doctor and a shitty fighter.
Who knew?
Yes and if you weren't so ignorant, you'd know how he knew that right away.
Do you fight, Jack?
Manny is pretty much acting like a bitch. I'm curious as to how many fighters he's fought where he outweighed them by 2 pounds or more come fight night. Somebody find that out.

Compare that cut to the baby scratch Campbell sustained in his fight. They were both from heatbutts, and Winky Wright was in the fight when this happened showing that he could have had a chance to win, but being the warrior he is he chose to continue fighting and showed heart.
Did Winky fight with this though?

Winky Wright was once in the position Nate Campbell is in, on the outside of superstardom with no one fighting him. He took full advantage of his chance, and Nate Campbell could learn something from a fighter like Winky.
Winky is a cool guy but one of the most boring fighters of all time. I'm not sure what you mean by Winky taking full advantage of his chance. Winky never did make it to superstardom.
I know that Israel Vazquez fought Rafa with a detached retina for 12 rounds in one of the best fights of all time.
What does me fighting have anything to do with Nate quitting?
I was just curious as to where your knowledge begins and ends with boxing. You seem to just post things in order to get a rise out of people without really posting with any substance.
If you knew what it was to step in the ring, then i would say that you had every right to call someone a quitter. There's no doubt that Nate quit, but to label the man a quitter for circumstances which were out of his control, is childish.
