Most serious fans know that Golovkin was HBO's creation. They found a guy with power and decent skills and matched him with lower tier fighters to sell him to the casuals as some kind of KO artists since that's what casuals like, and in a time when Mayweather was the face of boxing and had a boring style to casuals. Pretty much everything was handed to Golovkin, from titles to coverage. In contrast, Canelo at the age of 19 started fighting lower tier world level fighters and by 22 or 23 was fighting elite fighters all the way through to present time. He paid his dues and has created a nice legacy, all before the age of 29. GGG is the casuals champ. Canelo is the people's champ.
