A prime Pac
A prime Sugarshane at 135lb's
A prime Sergio Martinez @154
What other fight's do you guys feel he skipped or ducked?
Only real fight is maybe Cotto after he beat Mosley.
Cotto was a verified B-side doing 300ish k buys.
But floyd chose hatton who was top dog 140 and not his own class of 147.
Not that big of a deal really doe as hatton was more than worthy at the time.
But really you can pick and choose for any fighter. Floyd held it down and fought pretty much everyone
He was champion at 154 but fought Canelo at a catchweight of 152 after bragging he always fought guys at their best weight. He turned down good money to fight Margarito and he never fought Lara at 154 when he held two world titles at 154. In fairness he fought more than his share of good fighters.
That was a little weak espcially after saying how pac drains opponents.
But honestly not that deep. He flexed his muscle as A side like all fighters in position like that do.
Ppl say he’s asian but I’ve never seen him eat Chinese food or anything like that! Lol joke. But really guys has he shown any love to the Koreans or is he only gonna do it when he can make money like he did with Mexican style?
He grew up under Soviet style education. They preached unifying and not practicing diverse religions, cultures, etc.
So I doubt he delved much into his Korean heritage.
Before any of you “Floyd is TBE” weirdo’s get all defensive actually read this post as I’m not saying Mayweather ducked or avoided Martinez. I’m just surprised that the great strategist both in and outside the ring never saw Martinez as an ample opportunity to claim a 6th divisional title and 5th divisional lineal title, which would have been a crazy impressive accolade.
Let’s say in 2014.
Martinez’s body was breaking down and he was essentially looking to cash out, which he did against Cotto this same year.
Martinez turned pro at 147 and wasn’t exactly a natural Middleweight, so he would and could fight at a catchweight of 154-155 especially for a Mayweather pay day.
The anti Mayweather brigade would have b**ched and whined about the catchweight and Martinez being past prime but this fight still would’ve done big numbers if it was sold on the narrative of Mayweather chasing history and winning the lineal Middleweight title.
Is anyone else surprised Mayweather never exploited such a favourable opportunity to achieve such a historic accolade?
Nah Sergio dont move the meter like that. Legacy-wise or money-wise.
He didn't earn it either.
Or do they just not care?
I was just watching Holyfield vs. Qawi from '86 and at first I was watching like, "Holyfield's a beast!".
And then I see Lou Duva & I get sad because I'm wondering if it's Lou knew that Holyfield was dirty all those years & didn't care or if that just wasn't something he thought about.
But it's the same for other trainers.
Do trainers have to know that much about their fighters routines or do they just worry about what they're doing in the ring?
Depends.
Sometimes they have no idea. As the boxer only drills padwork and technique with head trainer.
Loma definitely isn't the nicest of guys from my experience.
Don't know him personally but from what I've seen briefly meetinf him before and after fights he definitely isn't Mr. Friendly
But he's damn dedicated to his craft and has been for decades. He gives the fans what they pay to see..
We have no idea what goes on in negotiations and why, though. So can't comment on this.
It’s far less than I thought it would be tbh. Going off Ring magazine rankings it’s actually only 5.
Byrd #1 2006
Chagaev #3 2009
Haye #2 2011
Povetkin #2 2013
Pulev #4 2014.
He does have 11 top 10 wins though with Byrd #10 2000, McCline #10 2002, Peter #9 2005, Ibragimov #6 2008, Thompson #9 2008, Chambers #6 2010 and Jennings #8 2015.
Sounds about right.
That's why just like Tyson you can't rank him too highly.
However he's around 11th to 13th or so of ATH HWs simply for his longevity and domination.
But head to head I think he matches up very favorably with some of the top 10 ATGs with his hand and especially foot speed. And his power and distance management.
Thats not why they like him. Most of these “fans” barely even knew who the f**k he was. They look up wikipedia for his amateur accomplishments without seeing his fights.
No evidence?
This place is segregated exclusively by demographics.
Yes the eastern euro brigade is very much a thing, and yes that is very sad.
A lot of butthurt ex-*******s on that boat, in their endless struggle against the always overrated ldbc.
What word did bscene bleep out??
People are simple. They like simple stuff.
Things are more complicated.
THese guys are too casual, they dont know what theyre actually watching.
Moves does not equal footwork
hands up does not equal defense
Hasnt been koed yet does not equal durable
lots of pointless twitchy stuff does not equal good reflexes
jabs and has boxer style does not equal mobile and high ring iq
Most of his fans are his fans because of a reason that sadly has nothing to do with boxing.
Dude has solid fundamentals and some of the best distance management I've seen.
Why are most people fans of him??
Ukrainians to prop up superiority over Russian backed partisans in the Crimea? Lol I think I know what you're hinting at but I've seen no evidence.
He's a skillful boxer who unified a very deep ( at least at the top) CW division. Now wants to make a run at HW. Has a great personality with humor that is rare from a lot of boxers. What's not to like?
enjoy~
Nice throwback.
Campillo was one of those guys who never had the right promotional power or managerial power behind him at the right times or else he'd have achieved a lot more.
He was supposed to be a stepping stone for Shumenov but got outfoxed and out boxed IMO.. at least their first fight.
Not many HW have 5 TOP 5 wins in history.
It means that Wlad cleaned the division during his decade wich is true.
Aye. Definitely agree.
Also like another mentioned he didn't really do vol D's, rather fighting all his mandos that come with being a unified champ.
He's close to top 10 HW IMO..
I'm aware of the Eddie Mustafa vs Michael Spinks situation ... that kinda caused the "day before fight" weigh-ins ... which in turn gave us all of the catchweight nonsense and "weight bullies" fighting in lower divisions. How to restore same day weigh-ins?
I propose, in ALL major fights, where a cancellation took place due to MISSED WEIGHT, carried on any network/PPV/Streamed/Live-only venues (MAJOR being where the fight purse is $5 million and up for either fighter:
1) Fighters must sign a guarantee to make weight. Failure would forfeit 90% of earnings for their next four fights. Forfeited monies to be shared by promoters/networks/providers affected by the cancellation, up to amount of declared loss.
2) Also a lein on said fighters career earnings (if they do not complete four additional fights) in the amount of $100 million or 80% of declared loss on the fight, whichever is more. And ...
3) Fighters required to be bonded specifically for making weight, equal to their purse for the fight, for sanctioning by the boxing orgs involved. To be required of the promoter to carry out, enforced by boxing orgs, with bond monies to be paid 100% to the network/provider carrying the fight. And ...
4) Any champion missing weight is automatically stripped and banned from holding the title for 2 years. And ...
5) Fighters to be weighed at 11am on the day of the fight (sooner where needed for early start times).
Certainly there are lots of details to be clarified, but you get the idea. I think this would let all concerned know how serious the sport of Boxing is about making weight properly, and insuring that fighters are fighting in the proper divisions for major contests.
Day of fight weigh-ins could return!
Thoughts?
Silly. Preposterous.
The only way it should happen is if they find a hydration test that shows a fighter isn't dehydrated a certain amount of time before the fight. OneFC Singaporean-based MMA organization has something similar to this. Not same day weigh ins but they dont let fighters weigh in unless they meet certain hydration requirements.
And even that supposedly has holes in it that are exploited.
It's part and parcel of the fight game. Fighters should be able to negotiate accordingly regarding specific penalties but there should be no official policy enforced by the state commission.
And by the look of it...juicing.
Juicing has become very ambiguous now..
Most likely he's just on a little doc prescribed TRT and HGH. Which any man over 40 should be on.
Still it's technically juicing but I doubt he's on anything more than 100 to 200 test a week and maybe 2 to 3 IUs of GH a day..
or at least second after Evander.
Evander is still the greatest fighter to fight at cruiserweight, but i have heard some argue that Usyk might be the greatest cruiserweight at all time.
I think an argument could definitely be made.
Well the difference between 135 and 185 is much greater than say 235 and 285 because the higher bodyweight the less difference a pound makes of overall bodyweight.
But I'll say maybe. I honestly think most smaller HWs would disagree because you'd de-glamorize the smaller HW division thus potentially hurting their earning capacity.
Povetkin is 40 years old man and has never been an elite HW...
Povetkin has been a top 5-8 HW for a long time. That isn't even in dispute.
He's right below the consensus top-4 of Fury, Wilder, Ruiz and Joshua on par with Ortiz, Pulev, and Whyte.
He is absolutely an elite HW.
Charles Martin won a heavyweight title.
Joseph Parker won a heavyweight title.
Buster Douglas won a heavyweight title.
Andy Ruiz won a heavyweight title.
Bermane Stiverne won a heavyweight title.
Bruce Seldon won a heavyweight title.
Frank Bruno won a heavyweight title.
Trevor Berbick won a heavyweight title.
Siarhei Liakhovich won a heavyweight title.
And we won't even get into the WBA Regular mess.
Tbf Martin didnt really win; dude he was facing blew his knee out in like the 3rd round.
What a windfall for Charles, though; that paper strap propelled him into what I heard was like a 10 million USD payday against Joshua
in my 20 years of watching boxing, I have never seen a reaction to a loss as crazy as this one. Literally we have people pushing conspiracy theories about hidden glove techniques that somehow looked past the the Referee and the comission.
Dontae's Boxing Fraud is still pushing out videos about how "eveyrone knows Fury cheated etc. etc."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=937oKJ-h-Rc
Wilder was created to be a mythical figure, and these fans simply can't handle that he lost. Not even pacquiao losing to Floyd was this bad at all
Well floyd outpointed pac 8 rounds to 4..
Fury literally held the power of life and death over that man..
He is really flat footed and is not even a fighter who throw A lot of shots, He is no defensive god and isnt really fast... He will have to change his entire style
He thoroughly defeated Michael hunter who just drew with Povetkin at HW. I know styles make fights and you can't necessarily extrapolate success therefrom, but I think it's an indication he has the capability to be successful at HW.
He does a lot of subtle things like distance management that casuals can't really detect or understand
His body positioning, dexterity, and balance enable him to always be in position offensively or defensively. Which he transitions between both very well.
I think size-wise, he is fine at around 6'3" 225ish.
I definitely don't see him out boxing Fury who is currently the man at HW.. But I'd give him 50/50 chance to win one of the titles in the next 3 years or so against a Joshua, Wilder, Whyte or Ruiz.
Sources tell The Athletic Errol Spence Jr. is expected to fight Danny Garcia in his comeback fight from a horrific car crash this fall on PPV. Spence and Garcia had agreed in principle to meet Jan. 25 on FOX PPV before Spence was sidelined. Details:https://t.co/6vgBTibZBV— Mike Coppinger (@MikeCoppinger) May 18, 2020
Looks like Errol isn't going for a tune up after all. Definitely risky when considering he hasn't even sparred yet since the accident, but if he wants to go after someone like Danny, then let's get it!
This allows Pacquiao vs Mikey to happen and then hopefully Crawford vs someone like Ugas.
Lol this is absolutely a tuneup.
Danny is done at the top level and never really was a true elite 147 pounder.
Spence should be targeting Crawford and vice versa.
Until we see the paperwork for the fight contract each had to sign anything else is speculation.
Each side has their stance and they are sticking to it.
I'd love to go back to 2009/2010 and see this fight but we never will be able to.
1. Only 4-decade world champion in history (1990s-2020s)
2. Only 8 division world champion in history including 4 of the original divisions
3. Lineal championship in 5 weight classes
More divisions and longevity than anyone else.
Does he have a claim to be a Top 3 Boxer of all time?
If not, list your top 3.
U can definitely make that argument.
Id say arpund 5 to 8 but another scalp like thurman and definitely
With the current standards hell yes..
With standards as strict as they should be - it's 50/50. He's beat 2 of the 3 greatest HWs of the past decade
If he beats wilder again. Then beats Joshua and say Whyte or a Usyk or a Hunter then he's top 5 And arguably better than Lennox.
Yep.
I wouldn't say he definitely won the first fight, but Tyson could easily have a defeat on his record right now, maybe two if you count the Wallin fight. McDermott is like Floyd's Castillo.
That's why people shouldn't make such a big deal about undefeated records as though it means anything.
Yeah I remmeber thinking big John got the better of him..
I agree but at the same time this shows how truly difficult it is to go undefeated even when your resume isn't the toughest. So many different styles so many variables so many things that can go wrong.
So an undefeated record should be taken as very meaningful but at the same time shouldn't be the end all..
Regarding the Wallin fight, no way should that be controversial. Fury clearly won 8 to 10 rounds l. The ref not stopping the fight shows how great of a call it was seeing how Fury boxed effectively till the end
I dont see why he would be so butt hurt paulie just called it how he seen it , like most did. Fury won the first fight. If u are a fighter u should not be bothered by any criticism. Just do ur thing If u read into what everyone says about u , u will end up pulling you hair out . Everyone has an opinion and some of the **** wilder says makes it easy for haters to hate. I dont see why wilder lets it bother him , it screams raw insecurity
I agree. I have no idea how a dude with everything a man could ever want could be so bothered by objective criticism.
I'm really losing a lot of respect for Wilder.
Am glad he isn’t celebrating, the last time he did he ended up over doing it. Turning to drugs, alcohol and depression. Stopping Wladimir from getting his contractual rematch.
I'm a huge fury fan but the depression thing needs to stop.
Fury got popped for roids and while his case was being heard he stopped training and got fat..
Once he got a back-dated 2 year ban he was mysteriously "cured of depression"
THE TRUTH WILL BE REVEALED SOON!!!!
Fury is in hiding.
We're gonna SMOKE HIM OUT
USA USA USA :unitedsta
No more tampered gloves!!!
I'd feel guilty too for ruining black history month
Trust me am a Fury fan too and definitely felt shady about the depression bit and never believe him, you can check my post history regarding that. Having said that, 2/3 days ago BT sport release the face 2 face glove off or whatever they called it for Fury/Klitschko 2.
And honestly watching it and now knowing what we knew!!! Phuck me it was all on video. The man was phucking suicidal or depressed at least.
Aye
Actually I'm more inclined to believe he was honestly depressed. He also exhibited manic behavior like going on cocaine and booze benders which is how some depressed people try to cope.
But I think the reason behind it was because his embarrassment and maybe even personal guilt over the failed tests.
I could be wrong , but I think at the time of the presser for Fury/Klitscho 2 he already knew about the failed tests as the boxers are told long before they are released.
Either way it worked greatly in his favor as he's a media darling now whereas before he was a pariah in the media.
Many people also don't even realize or remember he failed a drug test.
Note- had to delete the link u posted as apparently noobs cant have links before 15 posts heh
