or at least second after Evander.
Evander is still the greatest fighter to fight at cruiserweight, but i have heard some argue that Usyk might be the greatest cruiserweight at all time.
You fight very differently when you know your foe can't KTF you out. In a helmet like that you can be knocked by a liver shot and I didn't see that often in heavyweight.
\Most of Usyk's knocks out were of barrels of his punches where his foes actually weren't knocked out cold and were on their legs standing. I would like to see how that would go for Usyk with someone like Hollyfield or Haye.
Anyway, Usyk is one of the best cruisers, I can't argue that. I will just watch happily how fighters of Ortiz/Ruiz caliber will destroy Usyk, let alone Tyson Fury.
Headgear is mainly protection against cuts, not against getting KTFO. It was actually removed from the olympics because they found headgear caused more concussions than not wearing any. But yeah, Usyk's KO's are mainly breaking the guy down and stopping them standing. The Bellew is the only real devastating KO I can think of.
What year? Was it before the advent of cruiserweight?
It was November of 1984. From what I read all the major organizations had recognized a cruiserweight division by then. This was Evanders first pro fight ( worth a watch ), no idea what sanctioning rules it had. But his weight went up each fight and LH was still stipulated for the first few. I’m not sure when he’s fights switched to “CW” but maybe that has something to do with getting ranked. It’s just one of those things maybe.
When Usyk was 23 he was winning a gold medal at the Olympics and World Championships. The next year he dominated Joe Joyce in the World Series of Boxing, who is a hell of a lot better than Carl Thompson.
And it was a towel thrown in after being KD'd a few times.

I'm from Ukraine, pal. Haye was 23 fighting Thompson and I will watch that fight now, thanks for tip. It says TKO and Haye was on his feet.
How did Usyk look at 23 in the ring though? In a helmet, that's how.

Yes, Usyk is the greatest CW ever.
Golovkin is the greatest MW ever.
Marciano, Wlad or Fury are the greatest HWs ever.
And Loma is the greatest fighter ever.
Who am I missing?
:lol1: I know you're being tongue in cheek - and I suspect the TS is maybe a racial troll - but the thing is due to the really brief time Cruiser has been around (it really only got going in the early 80s and didn't gain much recognition til later that decade) and the fact that for a good part of it's history it was really just a stepping stone division for guys on their way up to HW it's a genuine claim that Usyk could well be considered the most accomplished Cruiser ever. It's either him or Evander for sure and he made more and arguably better defenses and title fights with the possible exception of Holy's win over Qawi.

Lmfao you Brits are hilarious.
If Haye gets points for “surviving Klitschko” then Usyk gets points for not getting KTFO by Carl Thompson

Haye would beat Usyk outboxing him. Hollyfield would KO him.
1. Haye survived Klitschko, didn't he? And he had a toe, lol.
2. Hay had brighter IQ in the ring while Usyk just does what GREAT LOMACHENKO elder told him to do.
3. Usyk was outboxed many times: Bellew, Briedis... But only his great stamina and cardio helped him overturn the fight.
Had Hollyfield and Haye received tournament like Ali Cup, they would both win it.

It was at Madison Square Garden. I just don’t know what to make of it. Nobody ever mentions Evander coming from light heavy. But at 177.5lbs I don’t see how any commission could sanction it as LH. Maybe the number was wrong? I don’t think there’s footage of the weigh in. But the commentators didn’t say anything and I think his opponent was 177 also. Maybe it was just the *****ed up 80s. It’s just something that annoys me is all. We deserve more as fans.

Robert Helenius is the goat
Y’all forgot or what
Some states will give some leeway on overages. Illinois will comp you one pound. Maybe he found a lax commission?

I rewatched the Holy v Qawi fights. Was 190lbs back then and 15 rounders. Holy had only ever gone 8rounds before that. He looked exactly like Holy does. Qawi gets his credit too. Holy has a good enough chance against any man who ever lived. If people havent seen it, his fight vs Lionel Byram is great. He was only 177.5lbs. The graphic says it was a light heavyweight fight. But I don’t understand how that is possible with both guys over 175lbs. Toney v Jirov is a great cruiser fight also, at 190lbs I think. HWs like Marciano was almost always below 190lbs and 200lbs. How do these things factor in I wonder?

Usyk and Holyfield are obviously the top 2 at CW.
Brits will argue Haye, but no.
