John McDermott vs Tyson Fury 1 was a controversial win for Fury. Many thought John won the first fight back in 2009 which apparently included Tyson Fury's own father!
The pair had a rematch 9 months later in which McDermott then became another TKO statistic on Fury's record.
13 minutes into the video he mentions the incident and then goes on to talk of a glove controversy from Team Fury which nearly caused the rematch to be cancelled on fight night!
Arguably means there's an argument for and against. There isn't, he lost.
Nope, Fury won. I gave him the fight by 2 rounds, as did Nash Out and many others.
Tyson Fury had been heavily weight training coming into the first fight 'I just remember that he seemed really fatigued, or that may have been the second fight' The stoppage saved him in the second fight, the first one was just a war 'But no clear definitive winner etc'.
Tyson Fury for the most part in his early career did not look like a technical genius, he was a game/feisty fighter 'Who always seemed to be getting banged about' It was around the time of the Martin Rogan fight that? Fury started to adapt his style. For the most part people from the UK need to be honest 'Fury was made out to be some sort of joke, and received plenty of negative remarks'
Not by anyone who knows boxing. It was always clear to me that Fury was a special fighter, the type that only come around once in a generation.
Yep.
I wouldn't say he definitely won the first fight, but Tyson could easily have a defeat on his record right now, maybe two if you count the Wallin fight. McDermott is like Floyd's Castillo.
That's why people shouldn't make such a big deal about undefeated records as though it means anything.
Undefeated records overrated imo. No one's invincible so the undefeated tag is just an illusion, made by picking the right fights at the right times and/or a degree of luck. Most ATGs lost and came back so the comeback story is part of boxing and adds to the whole drama of the sporting event.

McDermott definitely won that fight. I remember the commentators were shocked by the decision. Especially cause Terry O'Connor scored it 98-92 for Fury. Pretty obvious corruption going on there.
Tyson has never made a single title defense in his whole career, Maybe keeping off drugs would help his cause. Fury is too lazy and undisciplined to ever reach Wilder's impressive streak of ten straight title defenses. Too bad the first defense of the WBC HW title for Phooey comes against the "Bronze-Bomber' in a few months.
Tyson has probably gained 30 pounds by now, I expect Phooey to pull off something like the last time in order to cancel the trilogy.
He's defended his lineal title multiple times. Try harder son.
I think he might actually kill Wilder in the ring next time. Hopefully Deontay's loved ones will talk some sense into him and tell him to avoid the Gypsy King if he values his life.

Yeah I remmeber thinking big John got the better of him..
I agree but at the same time this shows how truly difficult it is to go undefeated even when your resume isn't the toughest. So many different styles so many variables so many things that can go wrong.
So an undefeated record should be taken as very meaningful but at the same time shouldn't be the end all..
Regarding the Wallin fight, no way should that be controversial. Fury clearly won 8 to 10 rounds l. The ref not stopping the fight shows how great of a call it was seeing how Fury boxed effectively till the end

what a fat sack of chit. If you turned off the sound you would think its a diabetes medication advertisement.
Tyson is a humble man, but i imagine he'll buy a new house at some point now he's one of the richest men in boxing.
Wilder can only ever dream of matching Fury's achievements. He will never win another world title.

I watched this fight at the time, I didn't think much of Fury at this point, he was nothing special at all then, but I still thought he won 96-94. I think David Haye was co commentating at the time and seemed to have an agenda against Fury, and gave Mcdermott every round he could possibly give him, he ended up with 96-94 Mcdermott and he was very biased. I know that commentary influenced people.
No arguably about it. Fury lost against a national level fighter.
I don't think you understand what "arguably" means. You can't say there was "no arguably about it" to someone who is literally arguing with you.
Whether he's right or wrong is irrelevant, he disagrees, meaning the statement that "McDermott arguably beat Fury" is 100% correct, whether you like it or not.
The giant hunchback needs to buy a new home. In the photo that you shared, I can see that Tyson needs to duck his head before he enters a room. This might explain why he has such a high punch resistance, the pinhead probably KO's himself every week running into the doorpost.

You're just gonna have to deal with it Iqbal. Bow down to your king.

The BBBofC rules stated that Fury and McDermott had to wear the same gloves, these rules were violated ; therefore the way I see it, Tyson never beat fat John McDermott fair and square just like he did not beat Deontay 'Bronze-Bomber' Wilder honestly.
Do you not find it unfair that Tyson denied John McDermott the 'Reyes' punchers gloves, considering that Fury was able to punch John more effectively using the punchers glove in their rematch?
Why does Tyson always do these awful things in important matches? We know he robbed Christian Hammer also by abusing steroids, that loss has never been overturned. John McDermott should have a NC on his record and Phooey should have a L to fat John right now.

That's why people shouldn't make such a big deal about undefeated records as though it means anything.Sometimes boxers are to obsessed with undefeated records.Often as you maybe aware they pad up their records by fighting journeyman and even some of those dont put in 100% for fear of beating the up and comer and loosing work further down the line.Makes a mockery of what sport is truly about.
Your hero is a bum, Fury beat the s*** out of him and turned him into a meme. Spin it however you like, those are the facts.
:)

Did they briefed the doctor beforehand? Cmon tell me how this works. Lewis team also briefed the doctor to stop the fight when vitali was cut?
People love to believe conspiracy theories and issues. Nobody’s happy when a fight gets stopped on a cut regardless if you’re making money or not, in this case it didn’t get stop and everyone was happy.
It wasn’t the worst cut either the sports have seen that was allowed to continue.
Matchroom FC casuals like Robbie were on their hands and knees praying that fight got stopped so they wouldn't have to see Fury dismantle and destroy their god.
