I have seen all of Beyer´s fights and about 5-6 fights of Green, so I knew that Beyer had the potential to beat Green (he is just the better boxer), but I was surprised that he overcame his mental problems he had since being KO´ed against Catley in 2000.
Yesterday he fought a very good fight and deserved the decision. Green picked the wrong tactics, which made it even easier for Beyer. Everybody knows that Beyer is best at countering his opponents and quite poor in making the fight himself. So it wasn´t a good idea to come straight forward at Beyer the whole night  . Against Lucas Green fought much smarter.
When it comes to this question, I always pick Foreman. Even his jab could wobble strong opponents, and when he hits somebody flush, it was REALLY "lights out" :D . - Tyson punches were harder and nearly as effective as George´s.
Paulie Spads isn't even as slick as people believe.
He looked slick outboxing all of those journeymen.....but his defense was average against better fighters.
I agree. Dorin is a good, determined fighter, but even he with his average speed could connect to Spadafora. - I´d love to see him fight Gatti, then we would see if he´s really that slick.
I agree, Pryor was one of the best ever in the division - maybe the best....
But so is Kostya ;) . Pryor is one of my all time favs, but there would be a 50%-chance for Kostya, who has more one punch KO power. This and Pryor´s average defense make it an open fight.
Looking good and showing a good performance are two different things ;) . Holyfield is still looking impressive, but he is worn out. Toney looks like a "Burger-Killer", but is on top of his game.
Holyfield should watch the tapes of his last fights instead of looking at his still impressive body in the mirror :( .
underated in my opinion. But he was never the same after the Mcellan fight, Nige had the heart of a lion but could be outboxed as Michael Watson proved. (In fact prior to his tragic injury Watson was probably the best of the lot). I dont take Nige's losses to Collins post Gerald as marks on his record, he wasnt mentally in the game anymore.
I agree with you. Maybe Nigel was even a bit past his prime in the fight with Clelland, and If there hadn´t been that devastating, unintentional headbutt that most likely caused the damage in McClelland, he would´ve lost that fight. Until 1994 he was a beast and I too think he is underrated.
Vitalis one-punch KO-power is much overrated. I have seen all of his fights, and in most of his fights his opponent was stopped on his feet. I can´t think of a fight were he floored a guy with a decent chin. He landed a lot of shots flush on the chins of Sanders, Lewis, Donald, Bean, Byrd, Sullivan, Puritty, Hoffmann, Ryan. None of them went down (Donald was exhausted before he chose to go down, but he took the bombs in the earlier rounds well).
Vitali can hurt anybody of course, but he isn´t explosive enough to floor the top fighters.
great list!!! Didnt Tyson also knock Carl Williams out in less than a minute?
He KOed Williams in 1:33 in a title fight  ! Tyson finished some more of his title fight very early (Michael Spinks 1:31, Bruce Seldon 1:49).
Peter McNeeley knocked out Frankie Hines in 0:06, and Jeremy Williams knocked out Arthur Weathers in 0:10.
Mike Tyson has the most flash KOs in professional boxing I think. He knocked out 9 fighters in less than one minute (Marvis Frazier 0:30, Robert Colay 0:37, Lou Savarese 0:38, Mike Johnson 0:39, Ricardo Spain 0:39, Clifford Etienne 0:49, Mark Young 0:50, Trent Singleton 0:52, Sterling Benjamin 0:54). In his record there are 23 KOs in round one!
David Tua has beaten a lot of fighters very quickly. John Ruiz (19sec.), Michael Moorer (30 sec.), Ron Humes (40 sec.), Eric Curry (43 sec.) and Obed Sullivan (51 sec.) in less than one minute and a total of 15 first round KOs.
tua ko's ruiz in like 16 sec
The official statistics say 19 seconds, but that includes the counting. It was a VERY brutal KO, and the last punch was definitely too much.
Foreman fought a very stupid fight forgetting his best weapon the jab and basically looking the worst he had ever looked up to that point. Ali deserves credit for sticking in there and fighting a very smart fight and taking some wicked body punches, but the laxness of the ropes and Ali's tactic of pulling George's head-down continually was deplorable, and kind of taints the win in my opinion.
I don´t think that Foreman was fighting that stupid over the first five rounds. He was cutting off the ring very effectively, hit Ali with bombs that surely would´ve dropped Norton, Frazier and all the others. I think he would´ve beaten any fighter except Ali on that night. When he realised that even his best shots couldn´t really hurt Ali, he became very one-dimensional and seemed to give up mentally. We also shouldn´t forget that Ali never was a "one punch knockouter", but he was accurate and could hurt fighters. The accumulation of all the headpunches he delivered have been the main factor in tiring George down.
Sidestep
P.S.: As you surely have notived, I´m not a native speaker, but I love your forum and want to discuss with you guys :) .
Fighting your brother wouldent work well, too much emotions.
Anyway.
power as good as equal
speed wlad
size and reach as good as equal
heart vit
chin vit
stamina vit because he paces himself better
skill wlad
Right now id give it too Vit much because his confidence and wlads lack of it.
Wlad on top would be very interresting.
Nothing to add ;) .
His KO over Herol Graham was just DEVASTATING. Graham was out a nano-second after he was hit and long before he hit the canvas. Interesting: Jackson was behind on points and badly cut. The Ref told him that that he would allow him to fight one more round, and he took his chance ;) .
1. Foreman
2. Tyson
3. Tua
4. Hearns
5. Corrie Sanders
Somebody mentioned Vitali Klitschko earlier in this thread. Can´t think of ANY real one-punch KO by Vitali. His KO-statistics seem to be impressive, but I´ve seen all of his fights, and most of the stoppages were made with his opponents on their feet. Nonetheless, he hits hard ;) .
What does anyone think of Collins? He had maybe the ugliest style of fighting.
I agree, Collins did have an ugly style, but I have a lot of respect for him because he was always ready to go through hell  . He fought like a machine, always trying to destroy his opponents gameplan, and although his handspeed was awful, his timing was great! His fights against Eubank were brillant!
You obviously don't respect Golata. Golata hits harder than Wlad.
Hmmm, wouldn´t agree  . Wlad is one of the hardest punchers in the current scene. He has some other problems (being too static, questionable chin, bad stamina) but not a lack of punching power.
I agree, I think Byrd woud frusterate Ruiz because of all his movement and quickness.
I would´ve thought the same before I saw Byrd being caught by "speedy" McCline  . I´d still favor him, but is he still quick enough to avoid Ruiz´ wrestle attacks??? That will be the key question... .
My Top 5:
Marco Antonio Barrera vs. Erik Morales III
Felix Trinidad vs. Ricardo Mayorga
Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Manny Pacquiao
Diego Corrales vs. Acelino Freitas
Ebo Elder vs. Courtney Burton
DM has something that everyone who fought RJJ at LHW didn't have, power. After beating Hill he was 14-0 with 14 KOs.
DM´s power is much overrated! He couldn´t send Gonzales, Hall, Hill to the canvas which Roy could, and many of his "KO" victories habe been premature stoppings with his opponents still on their feet. He was saved several times by the Refs or the judges and was hit in nearly every fight as much that it would´ve killed him if he had fought Jones.
Another point is: Tarver and Johnson beat Roy, who said that DM could beat him now? DM is shot (no matter if he can beat Grandpa Tiozzo  ), and I would still favor Jones to TKO him in a fight.
Byrd was the FIRST opponent that didn´t let Vitaly slaughter him! Byrd came to Germany with a game plan and really wanted the title. Of course Vitali won the early rounds because he was more active, but he could never hurt Byrd. Byrd was fighting as usual: slipping punches, using the ring size. After he had analyzed Vitali for five rounds, he started fighting back. I gave him rounds 7,8,9 (6 was even). Vitali just didn´t know what to do with Byrd and he was running out of gas with every minute. I speak German and can therefore understand what they were saying in the corner and later on the press conference. They used a damaged hand as an excuse, but couldn´t decide if left or right  . Later it was a torn rotator cuff  .
Anyway, maybe Vitali made a mistake, but he made it up for us boxing fans! I think he proofed that he changed his attitude, so I am concinced that we won´t see something like this happen again.
Next year will be awsome!!!
I think we will see this fights!
V. Klitschko - H. Rahman
W. Klitschko - Chris Byrd
J. Ruiz - Nikolai Valuev
J. Mesi - L. Brewster
L. Krasniqi - T. Hoffmann
S. Sam - M. Tyson
That would be a dream!!!
Good list, but I don´t think we´ll see W. Klitschko vs. Chris Byrd (too risky for Byrd who has nothing to win in that fight. Byrd will fight Vitali, which is risky too, but if he wins he is THE MAN ;-) ).
I also doubt that Sam will fight Tyson. What for? He has a pretty good chance to be KOed and no chance to get a title. What do you think about a fight between Sam and Brewster???
Williams would have needed 4 arms to beat Klitschko. he fucking sux. No disrespect.
I had the very same idea! Everybody who saw his loss against Sam knew he wouldn´t have any chance  .
I pick Vargas. First I don´t think that he is ruined by Tito (why should he? He did very well!) and he is still a young fighter. Second I do think that Vargas is boxing in a different league (he just lost against Tito and ODLH!).
LOL :D no I don't see a point in it.
I think Foreman should stay in retirement, but if he wants to fight, why then another grandpa :D ? What should be our incentive to watch him fight if there is no "Old vs. Young"?
