Williams fought Klitschko with one arm

Knocked down and nearly out in the first round, sliced open above the eye in the second, dropped in the third, set sprawling in the seventh and rocked and badly hurt in almost every minute before finally getting clubbed to defeat in the eighth, Danny Williams's courage and will to win was universally praised in the aftermath of his WBC heavyweight title challenger to Vitali Klitschko last month.
Now comes the revelation that the Londoner fought from the second round onwards with a serious, potentially career-threatening injury to his right shoulder.
The London-born 'Legend Killer' is currently awaiting the results of a MRI scan on his right arm and there are concerns Williams will require a second operation on the ligaments originally ripped apart during the 2000 fight with Mark Potter.
Williams had kept this re-injury secret because he didn't want to appear to be making excuses for his disappointingly non-competitive challenge to Klitschko. However, Williams told SecondsOut: "I felt something was wrong in the second round of the fight and the pain got worse as the fight went on. What happened was I missed a massive right hand, over-extended, and felt something go. It was really painful to move it and with getting knocked down and hurt so bad in the first round and cut for the first time in my life in the second round not a great deal went my way in the fight.
"I'm not sure if the arm completely popped out like it did against Mark Potter, but it was extremely painful and I couldn't generate any power. That's why I kept on walking forward trying to land one big left hook - that was the only shot I could hurt him with.
"I let it (that things weren't going to plan) get to me and just wanted to load up with one left hook to take him out and even when I was stopped I was still trying to do that. I kept trying to take it to him because the fight was for the heavyweight championship of the world and that means everything to me. But it wasn't my night."
The former British & Commonwealth Champion is mortified at the thought of the boxing public interpreting this news as an excuse for losing so badly.
"I lost the fight," he said. "I don't blame anyone or anything for what happened other than I didn't do what I was supposed to. It is the hurt business, this sport, and you can't complain when you get hurt in there. It was my decision to try that big right hand and load up so much. No one made me do that."
After returning to England on December 14, Williams sought the advice of St Mary's hospital surgeon operated on his shoulder after the Potter fight. He was then sent to a team of consultants at Milton Keynes and is now awaiting the results of the MRI scan.
He said: "The results will be known on January 5 and we'll know then how serious it is. I'm a little worried that the pain hasn't gone away yet - other than my shoulder I am completely healed up and ready to start training."
Despite his impressive KO wins over Kali Meehan and, of course, Mike Tyson, Londoner Williams took such a one-sided drumming from the Kiev colossus that even his own promoter, Frank Warren, initially advised him to retire.
Now, though, and independent of any official talk between promoters or HBO TV people, there is quite a buzz about Williams challenging WBO title-holder Lamon Brewster, a similarly lion-hearted heavyweight, in what would be an-out war.
But first Williams awaits those crucial MRI results.
Danny has more excuses then holyfield and tyson combined. The truth is he was a bum, that was overated for beating up old tyson, and had NO buisness fighting for the title.
He made a mockery of the heavywieght championship belt. And Vitaly fed the fire by fighting this farce of a fighter.
I tell you what, KJ, you're an arse and a half.
Let's look at it this way: say Mesi had lost his last fight. I mean, LOST it, not lost it and then got given a gift for being a pretty boy. He would still have had to have gone for a scan on that blood on his brain. And the story would have still got out. So people would say he was making excuses.
Danny having arm surgery is news that will be reported, no?
You know, there's never not a time that I feel like putting the letters T, N U and C in reverse order to describe you.
Well I really do not mind being and arse and a half; at least i am not the one who does the name calling :D and flame people for agreeing with a statements like:
IF williams says klitschko didnt beat him then williams didnt beat tyson.
Sure it is big news he hurt his arm, and feel completely free to intelectually debate this in the most possible detail, but leave some space for other people to take it in another direction.
And I am really very sorry if I offended you after you started shooting in my direction. ;)
(BTW I always get certain joyous feeling thinking about a "tnuc" in reverse, did you mean that feeling when are "always wanting to describe" me ;) :D )
= Williams is making excuses?!!!!?
The seed of doubt is planted. One thing can be said and to get another message accross.
Example: "I will NOT say you are an ASSH0LE for giving bad karma"
;)
Did you catch it? ;) :D :D
No offense but his record and resume speaks for it self, hes just a very average fighter that can't compete with top heavyweights like Rahman,Toney,Klitcshk and others. Bad Karma just because you disagreed with me, c'mon now :D
You're right. His CV does speak for itself. It says he KO'd Kali Meehan in less than 60 seconds (and how long did it take Rahman?) and he is only 1 of 4 men to have ever have KO'd Mike Tyson. He might still be a tad untested at the highest level but there ain't no way a bloated crusierweight like Toney could KO him.
beat one-legged Tyson, got over-confident, tried to pull another upset by facing Klitchko. but we all knew Danny Williams wasn't in the same league as Klitchko who's too big, too smart, too awkard.
Did Danny Williams fight with one arm? He looked just like That boxing dummy called B.O.B.(Body Opponent Bag) that doesn't have any arms and doesn't hit back! I think he was filled with cement in his lower half, not sand or water cause he wouldn't move.
No it's not true at all because HE NEVER EVEN SAID IT.
God, maybe I need to take a lie down or something. But all this "I haven't even read/understood the basic point of the thread but I'm going to debate it anyway" stuff is doing my head in lately.
The statement:
IF williams says klitschko didnt beat him then williams didnt beat tyson
is not true!?
And while you are at it please tell me the basic point of this thread and please outline the boundries to which point the "simple minded" people may discuss the great news of Williams making excuses, by saying he does not make excuses. ;)
Tyson hurt himself and would have finished williams other wise i am convinced of it after watching the fight several times. Willams is not a bum but he is close.
Williams could've been hurt in the second round, I don't know. Somehow everyone forgets that he was knocked down and barely survived the first round. Does anyone honestly think that anything would have been diferrent if he wasn't hurt? I know that it's another one of those "what if" questions but I would be interested to know opinions.
I think Williams really was hurt, but so what? When you fight, you'd better expect to get hurt sometimes, that's just the way it works. VK has been seriously hurt too and we have to give him credit for not missing a overhand and re-injuring his shoulder like William's punk ass.
How many Williams fights have you seen then?
No offense but his record and resume speaks for it self, hes just a very average fighter that can't compete with top heavyweights like Rahman,Toney,Klitcshk and others. Bad Karma just because you disagreed with me, c'mon now :D
I have to admit that I haven't seen many of Danny's fights, against Tyson, I thought he showed alot of skill, but the punches he got cought with were hardly Tyson's best. I think he would still make waves if he fought someone who liked to fight on the inside, as he did a pretty good job of not being caught cleanly against Tyson after the first round. Maybe Brewster, or Rahman, but not Tua lol.
Danny. Please. If you are reading my post, then for Gods sake man, leave the UK and go the America. Do it now. Book that plane ticket and leave that crap trainer of yours behind.
He's been in America training for months and its not done much good, i dont think changing training will help much because Williams problems are mental.
Maybe Roach would be better but i dont think it will make too much difference.
Audley Harrison will take Vitali down  i havent seen him for a while, then he pops up on the Kylie with audience show!! he got a blast of Kylie shaking her booty in front of him(lucky fucker), then shook his fat belly back to her!! :p
I'd like to see Williams vs Rahman/Brewster/Ruiz/Toney. I'd give him a chance of winning all, and a chance embarrassing himself event further.
I bet Audley got abit excited having Kylie shake her booty at him. :D He doesn't deserve that treatment yet lol
:D In the future when Audley progresses more he may give Vitali trouble because he has the size to bother him. (Thats if Audley turns out to be decent) It's painful watching smaller fighters fight Vitali because he uses his size so well. I think he would have stopped the Tyson of today even quicker than he did Danny because the Tyson of today has no heart.
Williams has got the tools to beat most heavyweights. He's like an old car engine, once you warm him up he's going strong but if you don't give him chance to get going a fight he'll just fizzle out. I agree that he would stand a good chance of beating the guys you mentioned apart from Toney. Danny has the power to take care of Toney but on a talent level Toney is far more superior. Thats why i don't think he'd beat Byrd because Byrd is built to outbox and win the long distance fight.
