Calzaghe's performance was great ya knob. Frank Warren said it was 'the best performance he's ever seen from a British fighter', and Lacy's trainer said it was 'the best he's seen, not just from a Brit, but from Americans too'.
I've never seen a performance like that in a world title unification fight either.
1 reason....they have never seen Joe fight.
They guy hasn't lost many rounds in his career either. Jeff was this monster created by the american media to utterly destroy Joe.
He got exposed yesterday, and ya know what the satisfying thing is.....It was a welshman who done it.
The whole UK should be proud that night, Joe was awesome honestly.
Exactly. The only time he fought on free TV, he broke his hand and still put on a decent performance. Plus the media were putting over Jeff Lacy like he was the Incredible Hulk. People who have seen Calzaghe at his best and know Lacy's record (good performances over guys who are long past their best like Reid and Sheika) knew Calzaghe would take this. I still can't believe Lacy was odds on to win. I would have put £500 on Calzaghe in a heartbeat if I knew his odds.
I can't believe it :( I'm gutted, but happy for Joe at the same time.
Joe owes me an apology for rolling back the years, I didn't think it was possible.
More like you owe him one for doubting him :)
Calzaghe would annihilate Collins, who actually retired to duck Calzaghe. Not to mention Collins only beat Benn and Eubank when they were well past it (Benn in particular).
Collins actually said he retired because he knew he couldn't beat Calzaghe. If you remember, it was originally meant to be Collins vs. Calzaghe for the WBO title but then Collins retired right before the fight and Eubank was a late replacement.
Nigel Benn (who I love for the record) also publically admitted Calzaghe would have whooped him at the time Calzaghe first won the title.
These people call themselves boxing fans and write for a boxing forum and yet they show a complete lack of judgement and back one of their own. This despite all the evidence pointig to Calzaghe being the better/greater figher.
It's probably because a lot of people buy into hype. I remember an unreal about a people backing Hasim Rahman to beat Lennox Lewis within 4 rounds in their rematch just because of the previous fight. Anyone that knew any better knew that the real Lennox was coming to fight. Lacy has only beaten decent-good class fighters who had probably seen their better days and had never stepped into Calzaghe's league.
Collins had nothing to gain and everything to lose, he was only willing to fight again if it was the big one with Roy Jones.
Why did he sign to fight him then? And he was never going to get RJJ either.
And Collins definate said Calzaghe would have beaten him. I vividly remember him saying it on "Under The Moon" on Channel 4 way back when.
Collins says that he'd of beaten Calzaghe.
And yes, Benn did say that if he came out of retirement to fight Calzaghe (he was coming out of retirement in 1998) he would get his ass whipped.
Collins obviously forgets crying at the press conference and leaving the belt behind a week or something before the planned Calzaghe fight.
Yes,Mikkel Kessler but it will be a close decision. Kessler are much more intelligent boxer than Lacy.It will be the fight of the year
:boxing: :boxing:
I think Joe would take him but there is nothing in that fight for Joe. Unless he gets Hopkins at Super middle, he might as well move on up to light heavy.
I don't rate Vitali at all. The guy needed 50+ stiches after the Lewis fight and had to be helped into his stool but he is making a career of trying to convince people he retired Lewis. I don't think Williams is much either but he has more to his game that Klitchko does. I go with Williams either in the first two rounds if he comes out all guns blazing. I don't think he will though. He'll test Vitali's stamina and I think he'll win in the 7th.
....That kid has never fought anyone like Zoo and he would get his ars handed to him.
Did you see tonights fight? I STRONGLY doubt Kosta could take the number or variaty of shots Hatton was landing tonight.
That's my opinion though.
I don't think Hopkins or Lacy look imtimidating in the slightest. Toney? Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank practically laughed him off in the early 90's when he wouldn't get in the ring with either of them.
There is an article in a local PR newspaper that says that Hatton might be Cotto next opponent after Bailey... :D
Would love to see it but I don't think it will happen before 2006.
Didn't see the fight. Was Olivera a target standing in front of Hatton, or did he spend a lot of time with back on the ropes?
Wouldn't say either to be honest. He tried moving and ducking. Held when he had to and got a few shots of his own off. Hatton just jumped on him from the opening bell and never let off.
Williams vs. Foley? Leave me out. Awful idea.
I still think Williams is good enough to bash up Ruiz, Brewster and Byrd. Vitali is just a league above everyone.
Harris had his chance to fight Hatton and blew it. $750,000 for one fight when you aren't a draw? That's carny talk for "I'm not fighting you".
Cotto and Hatton would smash up Harris.
