Hatton stopped Olivera in round 10, The fight was one sided all they and wasnt something i like to see, there comes a point when the corner should protect there man from a beating. Olivera wasnt punching back from about the half way point and complained of an ear injury.
I dont think anyone thought Olivera had a real chance, it was a decent performance from Hatton, he beat him silly and was the first man to stop him.
I dont mind anyone saying the opponent wasnt at his prime and that Hatton need to step up, as long as everyone says the same thing when Cotto beats Bailey.
I completely agree with your assesment of the upcoming Cotto fight. Bailey has been washed up for awhile now and Cotto should be fighting someone bigger. His impending blowout of Bailey is completely meaningless and serves no purpose whatsoever at this point in his career. Just my take on it.
You cannot be serious. Thats was YEARS ago. Olivera is as washed up as it gets and anyone who tells you different either knows nothing about boxing or is a shameless Hatton fan boy.
Elio Ortiz just smacked him around thats how bad its gotten for Olivera.

This guy was supposed to have a real pulse - highest amount of punches thrown in a fight.
But hatton killed him!
Give him credit, but he needs Kostya next!!!

Hatton vs Cotto 2005!!! :)
yes, yes and yes. That is PERFECT, not hatton fighting floyd or kostya. Cotto. Yes. I would LOVE TO SEE THAT. and it should be a possiblity. two up and coming potential stars. Definently
wake me when Hatton fights someone with a pulse

There is an article in a local PR newspaper that says that Hatton might be Cotto next opponent after Bailey... :D
Would love to see it but I don't think it will happen before 2006.

It sounds like Warrens confident of the Tszyu deal.
I get the feeling Warren is putting the Cotto fight off until the moneys right, Hatton needs a title before stepping in with Cotto because thats a risky fight to take without a big cash reward.
I hope Cotto and Hatton start the year well, win a big fight each and set up a showdown for late 2005
The reason Hatton can stun so many of his opponents early, thus putting them on the defensive, is that he (in my personal opinion) is a cash cow that has had stiffs put in front of him. I remember watching Olivera lose to journeyman 10 years ago. Hattion may be all that, and it would probably be good for boxing if he was. I will not jump on his bandwagon until he comes out rolling on a world class, primed opponent who stands right there with him. Maybe he stuns them too, but maybe the other guy lies in the pocket and cracks some straight punches up the middle.
Hatton needs to fight somebody. He's not green-horn. Its time to step up. Even Gatti would be great.
Just my thoughts.
The general feeling(even for die hard Hatton fans) is that he needs the big fights.
He's run his career well, he's fought through the levels well and is ready for the big fights now. He's at his prime and Tszyu/Harris/Gatti has to be next.
I get pissed off with Hatton opponents, a lot of them come to fight, get knocked down in the first round and come out for the second to survive!! They talk big but fight scared, thats why i hope Hatton fights a world class guy with confidence next.
Its rare Hatton fights a guy who cant take a punch, if you look at his record a lot of opponent have never been stopped, the last guy i remember fighting Hatton without a good chin was Smith! And he got a beating!!
As for Olivera, his corner should have thrown the towel in around the 6th round, watching some of the replays his head was taking some serious punishment!! Hatton seems like a nice guy and i doubt he would want to badly hurt/kill someone.

I don't think many boxers with half a brain would want to inflict death or serious injury on an opponent.
Yeah, thats why corner men and refs should be careful. If i was the ref i would have spoken to the corner, told them he need to fight back or he's out of there.
If a guys taking a beating, isnt punching back and is behind on the score card its time to throw the towel in.
Hatton was awesome. Mad props to Olivera though. He took some wicked shots round after round and barely flinched. Other than Wayne McCullough, I haven't seen anyone take such a variation of shots and stand for that long. Hatton proved without a shadow of a doubt that he is world class tonight.

Didn't see the fight. Was Olivera a target standing in front of Hatton, or did he spend a lot of time with back on the ropes?
Wouldn't say either to be honest. He tried moving and ducking. Held when he had to and got a few shots of his own off. Hatton just jumped on him from the opening bell and never let off.
