I was very impressed with Calzaghe, I hold my hands up and say that I thought Lacy would win but I guess I was proved wrong!! Does anybody remember Steve Collins in his prime? How do you guys think Calzaghe would have dealt with him and what would have been the outcome? Interested in your thoughts!
I think Collins would of been abit too strong for Calzaghe.
Calzaghe was too wild back then and would of punched himself out before Collins rallying late to stop him.
This shit coming from aman who predicted a Lacy KO in 3 rounds
Collins had nothing to gain and everything to lose, he was only willing to fight again if it was the big one with Roy Jones.
Why did he sign to fight him then? And he was never going to get RJJ either.
And Collins definate said Calzaghe would have beaten him. I vividly remember him saying it on "Under The Moon" on Channel 4 way back when.
Calzaghe had the tools to beat Collins, but wouldn't of used them back then. He was too wild circa 96/97.
What you mean, Calaghe wasn`t too wild to beat Eubank up back then, why couldn't he beat an older Collins?
Collins says that he'd of beaten Calzaghe.
And yes, Benn did say that if he came out of retirement to fight Calzaghe (he was coming out of retirement in 1998) he would get his ass whipped.
Collins obviously forgets crying at the press conference and leaving the belt behind a week or something before the planned Calzaghe fight.
Calzaghe would annihilate Collins, who actually retired to duck Calzaghe. Not to mention Collins only beat Benn and Eubank when they were well past it (Benn in particular).
Collins actually said he retired because he knew he couldn't beat Calzaghe. If you remember, it was originally meant to be Collins vs. Calzaghe for the WBO title but then Collins retired right before the fight and Eubank was a late replacement.
Nigel Benn (who I love for the record) also publically admitted Calzaghe would have whooped him at the time Calzaghe first won the title.
enough with the picture dude :D it was more of a push/slip/punch really
yeah ok ok, just highlighting how many calzaghe threads there are.
for me he was gonna win easily anyway. no suprise :D :D :D
Just read an article on Steve Collins and he said he retired because he didnt have anyone to fight in the Super Middleweight division and he couldnt get a fight with Roy Jones? It certainly would have been interesting if he would have fought Calzaghe however, based on the Lacy performance, I think Joe would have won too!! It's all hear' say mind.

Prime to prime for me Calzaghe, yes Collins beat Benn and Eubank but I think Calzaghes hand and foot speed would have been the key!
