I doubt it, this man went through two fights where he was facing court cases and family issues at it's highest level. Training and boxing is basically his element where he is able to be completely focused.
That is what I was thinking too. The ring seems like it is Floyd's sanctuary and his problems are forgotten or taken out in there.
To Slip Stream- I only ask because of the possibility of Floyd losing and I am looking at different angles here. Floyd in my mind, is one of the greatest boxers in the modern era. At the same time I am excited about the potential of seeing him lose against Canelo. The line in Vegas is somewhere around -250 for Floyd if I remember correctly. Is the line low because Vegas knows they will get alot of Mexican money on Floyd? (Yes) but is it also low because of other possibilities?
Big Fan of Paulie, I hope he does well against Broner. I am jealous of Paulie because I am half Mexican and can't speak the language. ... I agree with everyone on here that believes that he is a good commentator on Showtime. Paulie is impartial unlike RJJ and sees the smaller things that most overlook during a fight and can explain it to the viewers well.
this is the reason he had to fight Canelo....not that I think Canelo is any good, but Floyd would've dodged him otherwise...
Why do you think it will not be any good? :poke:
Ya, I think that is crazy too but if you guarantee a guy $32 million then you are putting your neck out there. Maybe they recoup that money from the attention Mayweather has drawn to Showtime or maybe it was just a big bust?
@Heroband,
Thank you for bringing some sense to people (like Vilicous86) who do not understand how businesses work; they are there to make a profit not lose money like a government organization.
So many think "oh it's a corporation so they can lose money and not notice it", but that is not how it works. $12 million is a bunch of money to anyone.
Showtime is owned by CBS, the most watched tv network.
Vilicious86, you are one of the sheeple!! you do not understand anything about money!!! Your answer to the arguments presented to you Floyd lovers was, its ok because CBS is the most watched tv network. haha What does that have to do with anything that has been said. I have read ( so you can too, presumably) that showtime boxing is a division of CBS. I am quite sure that is true and therefore, they have a budget. If CBS has major losses in the boxing division of their company, changes will be made; either Floyd goes or the boxing goes, but they will not continue to take a loss.
Has anyone else noticed that there aren't many *****s on this thread? I think it is because they know the truth on this one or they can't count. Where are they????
Dawson's was pretty damn shocking from last night.!!! I was in disbelief when I heard the loud thud and then the straight leg timber fall to the canvas. Good stuff
This is nothing more than speculation. Unless they provide some proof from legitimate sources, it is no different than Fat Dan Rafael citing anonymous sources for his bogus PPV numbers. In fact, their story is probably based on Fat Dan' lie.
Forbes is one of the most credible sources on the planet in terms of financial statistics. :grumpy:
this explains why floyd decided to make canelo his next opponent. maybe this showtime deal isnt as bad as some anticipated and they might coerce floyd into taking on better opponents.
I agree with you, it might have been the best thing that could have happened for fight fans to have the Mayweather fight flop. I like watching Mayweather, IMO he is one of the greatest ever. With that being said, I still want him challenged. With the bad numbers on the first fight of his contract,(I believe the contract is on a fight per fight basis and can be voided at any time)??I would assume that Showtime would have pressured Mayweather to fight a big name.
Thank you for the replies, I like to see what others think about this.
I just cant accept the fact that arm length is not important and reach is.What is stuck in my head is Floyd with his extremely long arms punching behind the gloves of a guy covered up on a right hook from a mile away. A guy with short arms can not do that and this is a huge advantage in my opinion. The Cotto fight he did this and even the Guerrero fight too.
To the original replier, very well articulated and I like the history of how reach was so important to sell fights, Thank you.
Floyd shouldnt be ranked #1 P4P either. But he is. Canelo hasnt been beat ever. Floyd hasnt fought a real threat in over a decade. Id say they are evenly matched in the deserve bracket.
Floyds a coward. What more does one man have to prove to fight a real Coward?
I dont know how to quote but I am replying to PAC_BOY and his comment that Floyd hasnt fought a real threat in over a decade.
Cotto was a real threat, Cotto was considered good until Mayweather beat him and Floyd fought him at 154. Just because Mayweather beats someone, doesnt mean they are no longer a good fighter.
there are many facets to scoring, Paulie wasn't taken to school if anything Broner should take lessons away from this fight
One facet of scoring is ring generalship, which Broner dictated the pace all night.
Broner blocked many of Paulies shots while forcing Paulie Backwards.
For those of you that think Paulie won the fight, ask yourself, who would you rather have been in that fight? If you would have rather been Paulie that entire fight, I think you are crazy
It is a bunch of money, but I think this is a truly exciting fight. Showtime maybe overpaying to get attention to its channel but I am thankful for it.
Just discovered this thread. Good thread. Not to be negative Nancy but these are two c level fighters at best. I like on FNF when they match up a B or C level fighter against a bum and give us a good knockout.
I am surprised that so many people think that Canelo has no shot?
GGG is easy to hit and that has been apparent lately. Canelo has very good defense, and it continues to get better.
This fight is simple in my mind. If Canelo can keep from getting hurt "Getting caught and then punished on the ropes in a 30 second period" then Canelo outpoints GGG.
Gambler, Thank you for clarifying my statement. ... I guess deep down, I want to see Broner lose so I would like to be able to bet on Porter but it looks like that is not going to happen. Broner must be feeling great and his weight is a not issue..... Are you going to be placing a bet?
Is Porter weight drained already? If not, then this helps Porter tremendously. Someone with great insight on cutting weight tell us more about how this truly affects the fight. If everything is equal, I don't see this being a close fight and Porter hurts Broner bad.
Heavyfist, thank you for your insight. To all the others that posted about the line changes when money is bet on one fighter and yada yada, No Chit !! I understand how gambling works, my question is why are people placing the money in Broner now.
Heavy fist gave the kind of answer I was looking for .
Don't fall for the 'magic' the video is trying to cast by pretending it's some lost art or secret technique that will win a fight. It's part of a number of subtle techniques that a boxer uses. If you're looking at "tricks", Canelo has more layers to his game but, again, they're all just tools. At the end of the day, it's the craftsman who makes the product, not the tools.
Thank you for this response. I almost fell for the "magic" from a video about how Canelo was Scared of Chavez because he kept looking at how Large Chavez's hands were. The video went on for about 10 minutes about how Chavez was cherry picked but Canelo realized he made a mistake.
Obviously, we know what happened lol
P.S. Tyson Fury is the best heavyweight in the world. Those are Fury's belts that Joshua and Klitschko are fighting for.
That would be an interesting fight if Joshua does win, having to fight Fury.
I appreciate everyone responding and helping on the betting decision. Looks like it is Joshua on the betting slip as of now.
