Damn, I seriously had no clue. I know he's full blooded Italian and there are some similarities, but he speaks better spanish than some Spanish fighters trying to speak English. Props to him
I speak English French Spanish and all 3,163 words of the Dothraki language...I also have normal looking eyebrows...something of which Paulie has anything but.
It's still not impressive. Italian and spanish are quite similar languages so if you're already fluent in italian and is interested in learning how to speak spanish then it's not very hard.
That's not entirely true. I speak fluent Spanish and can understand "a bit" of Italian, but there is quite a difference when you're dealing with the actual vocabulary and how certain words / phrases are expressed. Similar yes, but two genuinely different languages with different dialects especially dealing with how South Americans and Caribbean people speak Spanish (much different than Italian). I have no doubt Paulie had some teaching as he's aiming at a Full time career as a Commentator after he retires, but I don't think he knew Italian and just said "Yea I know Spanish cause I'm Italian".
A good businessmen move IMO, now I wonder if he can speak Italian
I was kind of confused when it said he was going to be on there because I thought he'd be standing around smiling and nodding
yes he speaks fluent italian...he was the HBO translator when Cotto fought Gianluca Branco.
I am not surprised I already knew he was fluent in Italian from this video:
Italian is pretty similar to Spanish, in fact I actually understand Italian fairly decently due to my knowledge of Spanish. Speaking of which, I have been going back and forth on which language I want to take up, Portuguese or Italian.

He speaks Italian. He was the translator for Branco's corner in the Cotto fight.
Would be more impressive to see Paulie trash talking Broner in English, Spanish, and in Italian Stallion style. He'll be instant the favorite in their fight.
That is until Broner knocks him silly.
He most likely does, especially coming from an Italian family you almost cant avoid picking some up. Given how similar it is to Spanish, I'm sure he can talk some or at the very least, understand most of it. With Spanish you can somehow get along with Portuguese, Italian, catalan, and even some French with a few classes.
Oh I love Paulie, he's smart, good comentator and Im sure well see him in the boxing world for a long time.
FerFAL
WTF bro watch the video, theres no im sure. He is on the talk show in all spanish.
Yes, Paulie is tri-lingual. That is if he's fluent in his native language as well. From previous vids, I believe he mentioned he grew up around and has Spanish speaking friends.

From New York as well. Italian and Spanish are very similar!
Why do people think it's so impressive that he can speak spanish?? It's not that difficlut to pick up spanish when you're already fluent in italian. Good for him that he took some time to learn spanish but I wouldn't call it impressive. Paulie is a good dude though and has a bright future when he retires from boxing.
It is very impressive considering how many latinos grew up in Spanish speaking homes, with Spanish speaking parents and can't say a lick in Spanish.
Big Fan of Paulie, I hope he does well against Broner. I am jealous of Paulie because I am half Mexican and can't speak the language. ... I agree with everyone on here that believes that he is a good commentator on Showtime. Paulie is impartial unlike RJJ and sees the smaller things that most overlook during a fight and can explain it to the viewers well.

I forgot which fight this was for but it was a "countdown" type of program and it showed Paulie speaking Italian- so to answer your question he is fluent.
Very impressive, I also had no idea Paulie spoke Spanish.
(thanks for the vid @RL_GMA)
Unlike many boxers turn commentators Paulie is very impartial and has a lot of good insight. He can express himself very well. Impressive stuff from Paulie
