Why is nobody talking about the fact that Joe Cortez dressed up in his referee's uniform for a sparring session.
You mean that isn't his daily wear? :D Mind blown
I really want to see Crawford vs Thurman. I'm a fan of both, and that is the fight at 147 that I'm itching for. I think Bud can handle everyone at 147. Thurman fought his way to the top spot and has proven himself. Although I would like to see him change up trainers and evolve his game a bit. I think his athleticism, power, and counter punching ability can be better with the right trainer.
This was a great achievement by Crawford. Unifying titles in this day and age is such a rarity, that it should be celebrated by all boxing fans. We complain enough about too many champs and belts, but when someone manages to unify all titles and become the man of the division, that's doing exactly what boxing fans are asking for. It's a shame that some continue to hate on the win being non-meaningful, but it's a huge accomplishment and should be a standard all fighters should actively be pursuing.
My hats off to Crawford. He put on a great show in front of a great crowd in Nebraska, and put his name in the history books. The sky is the limit for him and I'm really looking forward to that move up to 147.
That was a debacle.
Hopefully one benefit a streaming service is viewers/subscribers will have the option of watching fights without the delays and channel switching that not only hurt the Lomachenko fight....but often plagued Friday Night Fights.
I think that is a definite plus with folks that solely stream these days like me. The current ESPN app is actually pretty good, and I was able to view the entire boxing broadcast with no coverage run-over from other programs.
That's the advantage that TV streaming will have in the future. There would be no overlap eating into another's time frame because you watch what sport you want a la carte.
He's not flashy? Is this fool ok?
I took it as, he's not the type to sit there and admire when he lands a big shot. He doesn't shuffle and dance either. He just looks like a guy that genuinely loves to fight and the fight is what he enjoys. Not to say he won't clown on guys, because he does when guys are being stubborn, but he's just an all around great fighter. He's a fighter's fighter for sure.
You don't need a personality like Tito to be a superstar. Cotto got his status by being a great fighter with a killer left hook and a crowd pleasing style. He was a no nonsense type of personality, stoic and quiet. A lot of fans appreciate what he has done in his career. I really don't get the hate Cotto has been getting lately.
The most common answer is money. The next answer is that it all they know how to do, they been doing it so long since childhood, it's their way of life. For someone like Roy though, I actually think he just enjoys himself win or lose now, so he may as well get paid for it.
Well to be honest zab could hang with some top guys and was fun to watch
That's true, and he had some great knockouts. Zab was actually one of those guys that I didn't mind being an ass. He was entertaining me where as Broner was just annoying. I think it had to do with Zab actually proving himself at one point in time when Broner never really did. Yet he acted like it.
He just doesn't have it. He thinks too highly of himself and it reflects in the way he fights. I wouldn't say he is shot, but he's gate keeper status now. He really needs to be paid less money now, something more suitable to gate keeper rate. All those overpayments have given him a false sense of worth.
Nope, gotta beat Mikey then fight the Crawford vs Indongo winner in the same year to get in pound for pound contention!
Broner has the talent, speed, chin and heart!
But for some ****ing reason he just don't let his hands go which I never understood, he normally is the faster fighter and shows flashes of what he can do if he had an engine like Roman Gonzalez!
He's just like Zab in the aspect, lots of talent but a head case that can't stay disciplined and put it all together.
Even if Broner beat Mikey, this win alone wouldn't put him on any P4P list.
Crawford is still too much for Garcia at this point, and he's getting better every fight out. As great as Mikey is, I feel he's just a step behind Bud in overall skill.
You really think he's got the acting chops to be starring in movies? He has no charisma whatsoever, and no kind of acting experience.
All he'd be regulated to are bit parts in made for tv movies.
I think as long as he does type-cast roles, he could pass. It wasn't unusual to see this a lot in the 80's and 90's with athletes. I'm not expecting him to have any actual defining roles. He'll probably just do bit parts and cameos like Mike Tyson.
Cotto was like Clyde Drexler in the Jordan era or Paul George in the LeBron era......a very good fighter that will always make the Elite work as hard as they can but not on that ridiculous level only a few reach....
Good analogy, agreed.
I would of loved to see Cotto vs Hatton or Cotto vs kosta tszyu. I think they were the only ones he did not fight. Vivian Harris i think was calling him out but no $ there.
That's because Harris got slept by Carlos Maussa, not because of money.
Thanks, my bad..
And for the record, I'm not saying he isn't good, a HOFer or exciting. I'm saying that I think a lot of his best wins are not that great, I'm saying he has lost his biggest fights.
Most of all I'm saying that his behavior in defeat has dissapointed me and this is why I cant be a fan of his. I like his style but I cant support a man who behaves like that. Look at Klitschko in defeat - respectful. Look at Pacquiao - respectful (except the socks excuse...).
Says the guy with Tyson in his av, who took the honorable way out of boxing.... :pat:
Yeah you'd have to favor Wlad but I can see him getting brutally KO'd as well. He didn't have the chin or fighting spirit of Fury.
He was fine with Sam Peter, who is pretty similar to Wilder. And Wlad has been in with some pretty big punchers throughout his career.
 this thread. Unbelievable! Wilder lost, was forced to fight going backwards and couldn't adjust after the first knockdown. He was beat down, that's it.
Bivol looked really good. He really surprised me by making Barrera look completely out of his depth. The only other guy able to do that to him was Ward, so Bivol is already among good company. I look forward to seeing more of him this year!
GGG did better, because he was actively trying to close the show. BJS also put on a great performance, but there was never a point that I felt he was about to take Lemeiux out. Different methods and styles, but both guys did what they do best. So it really is just a matter of preference of the boxing fan.
Personally, I enjoyed GGG destroying Lemeiux. But I also loved the antics and showmanship of BJS in his fight. My favorite moment was when Lemeiux swung for the fences in, I think it was round 6, and BJS slipping and looking out into the crowd. :lol1: Still wish someone would have made a gif of that!
I would favor Lomachenko in pretty much every fight he takes, 135 or not. He is just that good. The best fight to make would be against Mikey. But Mikey does start slow at times (when he is not completely overmatch to his opponent) and that could be hard for him to gain momentum and adjust to the dynamic Lomachenko.
I think it's kind of a cool coincidence that both Crawford and Lomachenko are stepping up to the next weight class starting in 2018.
:lol1: What a joke!!! I can't even understand those guys still coming to Rigondaeux's defense about the quit job. Softest "elite" in the history of boxing!
