Along a similar thought... If you we're given a $2k seat would you go or sell it for face snd watch it somewhere on tv and have that $? I've never been to a fight before and I'm afraid I won't be able to see it well and I'd be kind of irritated. That's a lot of dough for me to give up.
I joined a contest many weeks ago I forgot nor did I expected to win. But I got a call Friday saying I won. I'm suppose to receive a package Monday with more details and papers I have to sign and get notarized. Unbelievable and I probably wouldn't believe it either. I'm guessing the tickets will be will call so I don't sell them.
Turns out it won't be as expensive as I thought. It was estimated originally the value of the entire trip would be $9k and that would be reported to the IRS the same as if I had worked and been paid $9k in income and I'm in the 28% tax bracket (I think). It's such bs... Now everytime I see people on game shows win prizes and trips worth say $30k I always think have fun paying $10k in taxes. But in the end I was told the itemized cost of this trip cost the sponsor $6620 so my taxes will be around $2100 or so. For what I won it was incredibly lucky.
Its for 2. Rt airfare, hotel, fight and VIP party tickets, and $500. At first I thought $9k ridiculous but face value tickets (for 2) $4k + hotel $1500 + airfare $1k + $500 = $7k so maybe that $9k isn't so ridulous if I get picked up and transferred and that VIP party. As for like watching ants scuffle, that's what I'm afraid of but is the type of info i was looking for when i stared this thread. For the $3k in taxes I'm going to pay it doesn't seem worth it. I could go to Vegas for longer then 2 nigts with gambling money to spare for $3k. Might be more fun watching it closed circuit.
Nobody is asking that I pay anything now. I was just told they will file a form with the IRS saying I won this prize worth $9k and it will go under the line "other income" when I file. Also, it wasn't like some random phone call saying I won this. I'm positive I'm not being scammed.
I'll arrive on Friday but have no idea yet what time but I prob won't make the weigh in. The pre fight party is that night and I'm wondering what that is or who all will be there. Don't know where my seats are but I was told they are "great" seats. The whole package is valued at $9k and I have to pay effing taxe on that... So what, about $3k?
They were great seats! What other fights have you been to there and are other seats farther away still good? I don't think I'd want to pay that much and sit any farther away and I also wonder how good you can see from the floor. I'd love to see Floyd fight again there. Doubt I ever will but the excitement that night was like a drug and I want more.
Don't think I can post pictures on here but I did add an album with a few pics. It only let me add 3 of them. I had one more of the Coronal girls and myself..... Check out my album.
I always use my Iphone and Ipad so it isn't so easy... How the eff, do you put pics on here? Also, right below this it says I "May not" post attachments. Why not? I got some pics, even one with the Corona Girls that were at the VIP party.
Just want to say it wasn't a scam and, although a bit one sided, was the most exciting sporting event I ever went to and this coming from a person who's more a football fan. I've been too a few big football and basketball games but nothing compared to this. Absolutely electric. I was a big boxing fan when I was a kid in the 80's but really haven't been as an adult. This renewed my interest in boxing and I'm playing catchup trying to learn who all the name fighters are now. YouTube sure is great for that. I rooted for Mayweather but I like Canelo. I'm very interested to see who he fights next.
Floyd vs Canelo. Except for some Golden Gloves it’s the only fight I’ve ever attended. Not the greatest fight in the world but after being a die hard fan in the 80’s I kind of stopped watching the sport. I won those Floyd tickets (thanks Showtime!). I’ve been to many big football and basketball games but nothing has come close to the excitement of that night. I’m a die hard fan again now.
I agree. A buddy and I went to the theater to watch it and by the time the damn thing started I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I normally would. Next time there is a MMA event at the same time I will not pay for DAZN.
And another thing that really pissed me of were commercials and advertisements between every damn round for the Ruiz Joshua fight. I go to ppv so I can see highlights in between rounds and hear what the trainers are saying. DAZN, that was a bs broadcast, something I'd expect from free TV fight. I miss HBO more and more....
I had Ray barely winning. Enough split opinions on here that it was very close but not a robbery. I just will never understand why Haglar didn't come out like a rabid animal. I don't see how Ray would have survived an onslaught like Hearns received (I do realize Hearns tried going toe to toe with Haglar). I don't care what people (mostly people who missed the great 80's guys) say that this was s garbage fight. It was a great fight and Ray showed what an absolute all time great he was. Nobody had more heart than SRL.
What if they add a great undercard? They'll have to to entice people to pay that price but it seems kind of late now to make another big fight this soon. They sure F#kked this up.
This fight will be built up big on free TV as the great Floyd Mayweather's, 48-0, final fight. All the non boxing fans will tune in to catch a glimpse of him in his "final" fight and watch him beat Berto to a pulp and think "holy *****, Mayweather really is great"! It's a smart move as usual for Floyd but sucks for us real boxing fans who wanted more. I really did want to see him fight Khan. I think that would of been an interesting fight.
mos def easy
I should've saw this coming that Garcia was there for a paycheck when I heard they was training at like 1am like chavez normally does with everyone else.
I always gave him and Ortiz the benefit of the doubt but at least that mental midget of ortiz is entertaining while it last. this dude (chavez jr) looked straight up like a bum.
I'm don't agree with this. Garcia looked embarrassed after and I don't think he even translated exactly what Jr said. Garcia was giving great advice in the corner but Chavez wasn't listening. It's his rep as a trainer if his fighters look like *****.
Kind of a poor loser. Said he got hit in the back of the head and he told the ref he was okay. He needs to watch the replay and give Nelson a few more props.
As everyone says, at least almost everyone says, this is Floyd's nightmare matchup. I just don't know how he could get inside on Hearns. Sugar Ray's will to win finally had him go into hunter/killer mode and I don't know if Floyd would/could do that. That said, most everyone underestimates Floyd. In a fantasy fight I wouldn't be totally stunned it Floyd caught Hearns and stuns him.
Just want to point out both are Michiganders too.
Do people really think this was fixed or just trolling? Thurman got hit with one of the most wicked body shots you'll ever see. You wouldn't fix a fight by having the favorite getting hammered. Collazo was getting drilled when that blood was flowing. He didn't want to get killed out there so they quit. Simple as that.
We do? My favorite fighters have always been American. I love my country and always root for it. Race has nothing to do with it for me. Just now, I'm finally liking non Americans. I like GGG and Canelo quite a bit but I'm hoping Crawford turns into the real deal.
Because SRL was an absolute warrior. The only time he fought without going for the kill was against Hagler which was smart because Hagler was a monster. Floyd is a great fighter but doesn't get the respect of SRL because he fought the last decade like every opponent was Hagler. He'd win the fight but when you are TBE you better occasionally beat the crap out of someone instead of clinching and potshotting your way to victory every single fight. As far as money, who cares except Floyd and his people? How much money you made in different generations means nothing.
Floyd loves money and his health more than the sport (and I can't really fault him for that) but he is great for boxing and if you don't think so you you are an idiot. Now I love Thurman, one of my favorites, but I think Floyd would completely school him. Thurman vs Maidana is the fight I want to see.
Im so lost we giving props for winning 4 rounds? If anyone deserves props its Mayweather for keeping his composure amongst all that dirty bullshyt.
C'mon GB, that was the most Floyd has ever been hit. It was one hell of a fight. I had Floyd winning but it was very close. I'll have to watch it again but I can admit I usually give most close rounds to Floyd.
As a Maidana fan, props to Mayweather; he has some dog in him I never knew he had.
I'm glad someone who isn't a Floyd fan can say something respectful about him. I'm a Floyd fan and while I don't like watching him struggle I was proud how hard he fought.
I didn't understand why few "experts" gave Chino little chance. He's one tough mofo. I look forward to watching more of his fights.
