...made this fight look more competitive (by staying in the pocket) in order to secure a more lucrative rematch in September?
The only reason I say this is because Floyd never talks about future opponents after a fight but immediately after this fight he said 'September he can get it again'. He also said on BLH that if they fought again he would fight a totally different fight i.e. Stick and move which he probably could have done in this fight.
He ain't fighting Pac, the Kahn fight isn't gunna happen because of Ramadan. Thurman and Porter aint gunna happen either. Basically, there's no body at WW.
I'm not taking anything away from Maidana, he fought the perfect fight, I've been waiting for a fighter to execute that exact game plan against Floyd for years.
Don't take any shots at me - this is a genuine observation. Views?
that's what he did do in the second half of the fight. A lot of the time though Maidana had one arm free and wouldn't accept the clinch.
If he holds all night, he's going to cop a lot of heat (just as Wlad did but on a much grander scale) and maybe provoke a reaction from Maidana, Povetkin was too nice.
Post Devon Maidana is very afraid to have the 'Devon Template' applied to him again. He will do whatever it takes, up to a DQ, to make sure a guy can't postshot and hold. I would love to see Khan try to do to Maidana what he did to Collazo, not that Khan didn't have a good win of his own.
Anybody that thinks Floyd did this on purpose is delusional. Maidana was able to roll up Floyd's Phill Shell and bully him to the ropes via a high work rate and by not respecting (for the most part) what Floyd was throwing back. Chino has shown that when he swarms a fighter in the Philly Shell they choke up and go back when pressed. I think Chino's awkwardness helps him here as it seems to really stymie lateral movement. IE - Broner's first knockdown came from trying to laterally escape being rolled up.
This whole theory is like letting your wife calibrate the aim of your gun by letting her shoot apples off your head. Yeah, it makes perfect sense until your brains go splat.
When Maidana was unloading 10 punch body combos on the ropes Mayweather could have held Maidana as soon as he got close instead. He could have turned the fight into Wlad-Povetkin and won more convincingly if he chose to.

I guess he never held Cotto when they went to the ropes to hype the rematch as well.
Floyd always deliberately looks less impressive against good pressure fighters. Don't forget castillo. He deliberately lost to Castillo so he could hype the rematch there, unfortunately it didn't work with Cotto cause he didn't manage to deliberately look quite bad enough. But it seems he managed to deliberately look just bad enough against Maidana to secure demand for a rematch. Genius.
I'd love to see how deliberately bad floyd would look against Pacquiao. He'd probably deliberately end up on his ass.
Im not buying that BS for the fans excuse of floyd. He fought the best way he could against maidana. He was also in his bicycle for the most part but maidana can always catch up with him and push him in the ropes. Maidana got off first, a defensive minded like floyd when bullied like that would only get even more defensive. Thats what happened in the early rounds. Had mayweather made maidana respect his power and create momentum early it wouldve been a different fight. Maidana didnt even hesitate to wrestle him.

Ok, stop making sense. Don't you know where you at? You in NSB. Overstated and hateful replies are mandatory.
May is a very gifted fighter and we have seen him dominate legends past their prime, but he would never let someone rough him up continuosly to the ropes because he wanted to give into the fans. I believe the rematch will play a bit different though like he said.
He only boxed with Madonna was tired or taking some time off..running to the ropes and getting chased down and caught in the process does not mean he allowed it he was too busy trying to catch the shots coming in to return fire it happens when your 38 and facing a power brawler. If madonna wore his usual gloves fight would have ended with a tko ..the guy is old and never faced any prime game opponents
even when he "boxed" madonna made him miss more than usual and was countering fraud in return it was never before seen sh1t
Everytime Floyd would start to win rounds he'd then start to lay on the ropes. I don't understand why because when he boxed he was clearly winning but it definately wasn't for the fans and he wasn't thinking ahead to Sept. I think he was just tired. When really pressed is when his age is starting to show.
