This is some whiny ass ****.
If we support our own guys, we are flag-waving, xenophobic oppressors. If we don't, we are racists.
Dude just go to the lounge or reddit or imgur or the huffpo or where ever the fk ever and join the hallelujah chorus about how white American men are stupid and weak and incompetent w/tiny peckers, but at the same time manage to oppress every other mfkr on the planet.
Quit polluting a boxing site with your whiny ****.
it does seem like were literally the only country that dont back our own guys and for the most part fans dont just not back american fighters americans actually hate american fighters.
Why do you think that is?

there is no question american pride in general has taken a hit but its a shame were the only country that dont back our athletes always. its a shame honestly
I personally think people that support fighters and hate on others for racial reasons or because they were born closer to them in the same country
(do they think because the fighter is related to them in the most minor ways its somehow an extension of themselves as if its actually them thats boxing????)
I'm in the UK I just love watching any great or elite fighters as long as they're trying to fight the best, for instance I have never supported Calzaghe(oh yeah I'm white too)
And I loved Roy Jones ...personally I think if you don't like certain fighters it should be for good reason like mine because of the way slappy ranted on about the win like he just single handedly ended world war 2
I root for good fighters who fight well inside the ring and aren't a holes outside the ring. If they are champions I root for the champions who defend their title often against top contenders. Their race and where they come from means nothing to me. I am a boxing fan, not a race fan or a fan of any country and that includes my race and country. I would root for a foreign fighter of a different race to beat my countryman of my race if I liked the foreign fighter more.
- You have boxing fans who will support/follow a boxer because they are fun to watch or appreciate boxing. Then you have nationalistic fans that only support fighters from there country. Kind of like soccer. It goes on in any sport that is global.
There simply aren't that many American fighters worth rooting for nowadays, at least not when you compare them to the warriors of yesterday. One thing that people here may never accept or agree with, is that most people don't care about boxing but they do care about fighting, which is why most exciting fighters usually get the best following.

Who? Golovkin, kovalev, and Pacquaio? That's only 3 guys and all of them are extremely exciting fighters who are easy to root for (manny not so much anymore, but still). There is some truth to the perception that American fighters have adopted the business first swag type of persona that worked for mayweather but is a turnoff to boxing fans that prefer the warrior old school style.
There is some racism and nationalism, of course, and sometimes it is ugly and ignorant. But overall, it is probably less than you assume.
Ask anyone one of those fans you are referring to (like myself) who their favorite fighter of all time is, and most likely the answer is going to be an American (probably African American) fighter.
Let's be honest. Many of the elite American fighters today are not exactly easy to root for. I'm sure that will change though.
The fighters i don't like are the racist ones
I'm a white American who roots for fighters based on many factors. Skills, character and weather they are humble or arrogant.
It's obvious this dood has issues
America is a Melting Pot, you can come here and find your own people somewhere in one of these states in their own little city so that is another reason why a lot of Americans root more for Parents Nationality and the Origin of their Family more than they do just being an American
Also the standards are extremely high for American Boxers, in fact it might be unrealistic to be honest given the Rich History America has in Boxing. So it takes years for American fans to get behind an American fighter and a lot of times guys are not even acknowledged or appreciated until towards the end of their career and a lot of times after their careers
We don't support all foreign fighters, but let's be honest, American fighters are boring for the most part, so when a guy we never seen before comes over and looks like a beast, we fall in love.
I remember the first fight I seen Maidana, he was fighting Victor Ortiz. He got dropped 3 times in the 1st 2 rounds, but never gave up and came back to win. I knew from that moment on I would watch all of his fights and he has produced plenty of great performances since.
I don't care where you are from, or what race a fighter is. The only thing that matters is how they fight. I like James Kirkland, Ruslan Provodnikov and Brandon Rios over Floyd, Devon Alexander and Andre Ward.
I'd rather watch Provodnikov lose a fight, than an American fighter run for 12 rounds and win on the scorecard.
Besides the obvious race issues you are alluding to, I can think of another reason.
America has always been a country of immigrants, as such we are far more accommodating of foreigners than most places.
Because American fans don't just hang on the nuts of fighters from America like people elsewhere do for their domestic fighters.
We have higher standards when is comes to supporting fighters. If you aren't doing something worth watching, no one is coming to see you.
First off Im not American so he's not my President but he was definitly head and shoulders above McCain/Pailen and Rommney/ Ryan
I'm pretty sure race had something to do with Obama getting in but also the fact that the Republican Party is a absolute joke and only cares about the 1% is probably the bigger reason why he got into office.
But I do think race plays a major role in it.
Sidenote: Didn't quote IT but think a part of what Weebler said is true but also think the media has a large influence on the perception of the negativity of so called boring fighters
You've avoided my point in entirely. You're chastising U.S white fight fans for apparently being racist yet a president was elected solely for being black in those white fans home country. Race didn't just have "something to do with" it. A record number of Black people voted that year, there hasn't been so many black voters before that election and around 95%+ of black people voted for Obama.
So while you accuse white fans of being more racist I'd have to say judging by the overall actions, black fans are just as bad if not worse.
You're talking about a country where your black president was voted in as president just because he was black and yet you're here chastising white americans for somehow being racist?
Right.
